I am considering buy at SSR, and may still want to book trips at OKW for their Grand Villas. As an SSR owner, this would put me at the 7 month window.

Does anyone know what my chances are (if any) of booking at GV in mid-January at the 7 month window?

Has anyone had experience/success/failures with this?

Is being wait listed likely?

Thanks

the last I saw SS will have GV too

January is probably a good month - I haven't ever been in January (work won't allow it) - but I would say - try it - if you think you will have a problem - you can trade with a OKW owner

after you buy just go post on the DVC rental/trade board

Why would you decide on SS before BCV? I would go for BCV - they are definitely a better deal in my opinion.

Thanks Spicey, I hadn't even thought of the point trading idea to achieve the 11 month window at OKW. I think I may do that.

As for SS instead of BCV, I wanted SS for the 50 (51 if you get Dec. 03 use year) year ownership. I know SSR has GVs too, but I just found out that they 'cost' 67 points per night Sun. - Thurs (confirmed) in the adventure season, when I'll most likely go. OKW GVs are 36 points for the same period, and I'm cost conscious.

As for adding on at BCV, and trading, to do a GV at OKW, I like that idea. I guess I'll waste another day pondering...

OKW has 27 GV's. I think you have an excellent chance for getting 1 in mid January, even with out waitlisting and with the 7 month window. All kids are in school at that time, so parents are less willing to pull them out right after a x-mas break.;)

ncligs, kids are also in school during the first two weeks of December, late October, and early November, there is a very poor chance of getting the GV at any of these times.

I think the holiday and F&W Festival play heavily into the difficulty during these times. Of all the low point times, September seems to be easiest with January next. I agree that you have a good chance, about the best of the year.

Rich, I know those other times are very busy also. But how many parents are going to take there kids out of school in January when they were just off 10-12 days at the end of December. He asked about january.........not the 1st two weeks in December, etc.

Well, I called MS to check today, and guess what? I couldn't get a GV for either Jan. 4-8, or Jan. 18-22. So, they are in fact somewhat hard to book.

In the future, I'll trade out, and try at the 11th month window...

Thanks all.

That is surprising  for the month of Jan, I guess thats why it is important to have the 11 month window at OKW( for GV's).

Wow, I am also very surprised at that.

I would have to say, alot!!

This is just as unexpected to me as it was to you. I agree 100% that Jan would be easier than oct-dec, I was just pointing out that school was in session during these periods and didn't guarantee light travel.

It is like six months out, but I am still surprised, especially since the dates weren't that early in Jan.

Jan 4-8 doesn't really surprise me. We almost scheduled a vacation (in a GV) for then. DS is in college and they don't go back until after the 15th. The other son has a child who's not in kindergarten yet.

Ditto with my sister-in- law. She had planned a trip with her 2 daughters, their husbands and the grandkids. Six grandchildren, and not a one in school yet (twins). That group could fill a GV in nothing flat and not miss a day of schooltime!

WE did a GV in January a couple years ago, and we called day by day to reserve it. I do remember one January though, that we were there and met a family at the pool who were on an II exchange in a GV. They actually had booked a 1 bedroom and got a GV for 14 days, so they had lots of family coming at various times. The day we saw them, they were two people alone in a GV!!!
