I'm asking for help here in how to advertise this. We have a relative who will take this for $2000 if necessary, but since Disney would rent it for almost $1200 per night, making it an almost $6000 value, I'm wondering if there is a (NON ebay) way to get more for our ressie.

My in-laws want to advertise it in their local paper, which I feel doubtful about but they are offering, so we'd like examples of effectively-worded ads.

Thanks!

If you are wanting suggestions about wording a newspaper ad, the DVC Board is the best place to ask that.

If you want to try to rent it using the Rent/trade Board, just repost your offer, with your asking price, back on that board.

Good luck!

Thanks, Doc.

I did try posting it on that board back when we had our "reversal of fortune" (DH has still not found a job!!!), but only got an offer at a per-point price with no added value considered for the fact it is a Grand Villa ressie!

I'd put the value in the $1900-2200 range so given you have an offer on the table for family in that range, I think you'd be wise to take it given the short notice of your unit. You don't really think Disney rents those units for $1200 a night during value season. Posting it on ebay, the DIS rent/trade and maybe bidshares would be alternatives. Also look at redweeks.com. Bidshares is free if you don't sell and $50 if you do though you'd likely get more from ebay if you get it on their quickly. The rack rate for 2005 is $1070 plus tax of course. But most people are willing to pay at most about 50-60% of the rack rate for DVC direct rentals and I think the difference is higher for the larger units. Good luck, I hope it works out.

Hi Pixie

We rent a lot of points and this is a very good place to make your offer. The problem is many only feel they that there points are worth less then $10 if they would just be patient they could rent for $11 and $12, we're currently renting with some resistance at $11, due to the current crew renting points. We could very easy rent all day cheap at $10 but with dues at almost $4 and the current cost of $98 per point what the reason to rent cheap vacations, when Disney is getting over $300 a night with tax for a studio.

You might give a thought to canceling that reservation before your points go into the special holding account and renting to someone else that wants specific dates and places.

Here's the ad DH came up with:

Hot Disney Vacation Rental 12/4 - 12/9! Grand Villa at Old Key West Resort, sleeps 12. Close to EPCOT / Downtown Disney. B/O 6K value! disneyvacationoffer@yahoo.com

(I figured making an email account for people to respond to is better than taking a lot of phone calls, as I can then email them more info on the property.)

Thanks for the advice - bidshares or redweeks are new to me - I'll look into them.

why not just cancel, put the points back in your account and then rent the points if you can't use them, you are still within the 30 days? Or am I missing something?

I believe they are thinking that the reservation is worth more than the points. I don't agree. Might get lucky and get someone who want's those dates but I agree that they should cancel and rent the points. People just don't pay a premium for short notice transactions.

Since I had saved the points up from the previous year to do this big thing for the family (which obviously fell through), I can't just convert them back to points since they would then expire. Having watched the rent board, I don't believe we could rent all those points in time. People tend to want a few points for a really low cost or other conditions on what they want that don't fit our situation. I do agree that no one on DIS is likely to consider the ressie to have any value because they are all about the points, not the effort that was put into getting a Grand Villa. Which is why I am asking for helpful advice on how to rent it elsewhere. Obviously I never bought my DVC membership with any intention of ever having to sell a ressie, so it is not natural to me.

to a studio and 2 bedroom or is it all one unit. you could definitely sell if this was a smaller room or rooms. i know i'm on a wait list for this time period but for a stuidio and 2 bedroom

The problem that you are running into is that anyone who would have enough people traveling to WDW to "fill" a GV has most assuredly made their ressies. At this time of year, you would be renting to "last minute" people....that is most assuredly NOT a party of 12. So, anyone who would rent it would just be doing so for the "room"....they would be wasting a lot of space, and that devalues your ressie. I think I would let the relatives have it.

Good luck!!

Ah, well, if you're on a wait list that would mean they aren't available, so I couldn't switch it either. One thing you might consider is that the Grand Villa is two story, with separate entrances on each floor and private bathrooms for each room plus the sofa bed (i.e., three bedrooms, sofa bed, plus four bathrooms!), and many extra amenities you don't get in a studio plus two bedroom, so is there a reason you'd rather have two separate units instead?

Cheers :)
