We are going to WDW Jan 8 -17 '05 staying in a 2BR at OKW. It will be my family - me, DH, DS(7), and DD(turning 1 on trip). We are also taking my DH's parents. My mother in law has a bad leg and has trouble with stairs. They live in a rancher. When I made the reservation I requested the unit be on the second floor near an elevator. It was my thought that the view would be better from the second or third floor. They will be going to the parks with us but not every day, so they will be spending some time in the unit. Are the buildings with elevators in a desirable spot at OKW? Or, would I be better requesting a first floor unit? We will be renting a car but will make use of the bus transportation to most if not all of the parks.

This is their first time ever at WDW. We were actually surprised they said yes when we invited them! I would like to make the trip as pleasant as possible.

TIA!

There's only one building unit that has an elevator.

I suggest that you request either being in that building or on the ground floor and explain that it's based on medical needs.

Actually there are three...62, 63, & 64.

Did you tell them why you made that specific request? If not, you should call MS to let them know you must have an elevator building for medical reasons. You might also tell them that if a building with an elevator is not available, you must have a first floor unit.

The buildings with elevators are the newest buildings at OKW and are located very close to Turtle Crawl...very convenient to the main pool, Olivia's Restaurant, and the store.

There are three elevator buildings at OKW. Buildings 62, 63, and 64. I would request a bit more general and ask for EITHER an elevator building or first floor for medical reasons.

I don't particularily care for the view from 63 and 64, but it's okey.

Bus service at OKW is outstanding! The only place I think it is a bit lacking is to AK. That is because the AK bus also stops at Blizzard Beach. We rarely wait 10 minutes for a bus.

We have stayed in first floor units several times, and many of them are under GV's so are a bit noisy because of the the hardwood floors in the GV.

I would agree with the other posters to make sure your reservation states that oyu need an elevator or first floor for medical reasons.

Is your relative wheelchair bound? If so, consider renting a wheelchair or electric scooter form an Orlando area medical supply company, so you have it at your disposal all the time. They can be rented in the parks, but then they are only for use in the parks, and, as we all know, there is a lot fo walking in Disney beyond the theme parks.

To me, it has always been the Commodore House. I always think of it as one building, but thanks for pointing out that there are three units. :D

In my house it's also known as "the section that we always ask for and never get." ;) :p

Our last trip to OKW was in a 2 BR, Ground Floor, in Building 13. Our room was 1314, had a wonderful view of a fountain on the golf course. It was directly across from the HH, main pool, and a bus stop.

We loved this location!::yes::

:p My house too... Front desk seems to think 63 and 64 are just as good...they're not!

Last fall we requested 62, 16, 17, 23, 24, 26 and they put us in a non-smoking 2-BR right next to the entry road. It was probably the noisiest room at OKW and the studio reeked of smoke...even after housekeeping came back in to do whatever they do to de-smoke a room. They moved us to 24 the next day.

When I make my reservations at OKW I request first floor or elevator building for medical reasons. Over the last few stays we have been on the third floor of building 64 & the frist & second floor of building 62. In May we had the first floor one bedroom unit in building 62 closest to the road. We never heard outside noises when the doors were closed.

Thanks to everyone for your expertise and advice! I will be calling MS today to change our request to:

"Elevator building or first floor for medical reasons"
