We arrived Dec 4 and spent one night at POP on an AP rate
before moving to OKW the next morning. Our OKW one bedroom was ready about 2 pm, room 2825. I was surprised at the nice view from the balcony of this unit, as we stayed in bldg 29 a couple of years ago, and the view was awful. Big difference between first and second floor for these particular buildings.
The unit, overall, was clean, and the floors were cleaner than any of the Hampton Inns we stayed in while driving to/from Disney.
The carpet showed some minor wear (snags, etc), the tile areas were in good shape, a couple of narrow "cracks" from building "settling" over the years.
There were some cleanliness issues with the kitchen area. It looked like the housekeeper had wiped the counters off, but that a previous tenant had left a lot of grease splatter and/or spilled sugar as the counters and stove were oily/sticky. I wiped them with a washrag instead of a sponge. Also, dishes, skillets and cooking utensils were put away in less than "clean" condition, with what looked like egg particles still attached. However, a previous tenant may have put them away in that condition, so they weren't checked by housekeeping. Needless to say, I hand scrubbed then used the dishwasher before using any dishes.
This unit has a new style sofa sleeper, which surprisingly, I found less comfortable than the "old style" sleeper we had last year. I think the seams in the mattresses just hit me in the "wrong place" for my back.
When I got the bedding down from the closet shelf to make up the sleeper, while the sheets looked and felt fresh, the blanket looked as if someone spilled coffee or cocoa on it, so I also threw it in the washer before I used it. That is the first time that has happened to us at OKW, and the blanket wasn't folded in the usual manner...so I am assuming, again, that a previous tenent (not necessarily the immediate previous tenant) had folded and put the blanket away and it wasn't changed by housekeeping. There were some similar stains on the couch/love seat cushions, which I wiped off. I also fonud a piece of a plastic toy under one of the cushions, evidence that youngsters had occupied the room in the fairly near past.
The appliances and TVs were in good working order, didn't use the DVD.
One other disappointment is the current lunch/dinner menu at Olivia's (breakfast is still great, BTW, as is the breakfast service.) The one minor disappointment at breakfast was the lack of steak & eggs, it has been replaced by a chicken fried-type steak, which some folks may like, but I'd rather have the sirloin they used to have. We ate breakfast there twice, since we used the kitchen in the one bedroom for breakfast most mornings. and both times service was great (many of the servers have been there for years), and the food well prepared.
Disappointment with the lunch/dinner menus include the lack of the buttermilk chicken, the lack of some of the more "creative" dishes they used to offer, and what seems to be standardizations of menus throughout the Disney system. For instance, Olivia's originally had wonderful "steak fries", then changed to really tasty crinkle cut fries, now they are the standard fast food type fries served throughout Disney. The same "steak salad" served at several places, the same Cuban sandwich, etc. Heck, I remember when Olivia's had their own pastry chef, with wonderful specialty items nightly. But, again, this seems to be the case system wide at Disney. Fewer restaurant specific items and more standardization. They don't even have their signature Key Lime Honey Mustard dressing anymore. Surely these changes are due to cost cutting measures, and may be partly due to the need to quickly serve larger numbers of people because of the popularity of the DDP. We actually drove over to POP twice for a light dinner at the food court, because they still offer a wide selection of items.
Generally, resort staff were as nice and as friendly/helpful as ever, no major overall decline in service, and the selection of food items in the general store is quite good, even if a little on the pricey side, though not extremely overpriced, like Goodings. We bought some items at the General Store, but relied on Publix for the bulk of our items. One thing to note, they didn't have any boxes of Mickaroni & Cheese anywhere at Disney. I hope everyone was just "out" and it hasn't been discontinued, we found it superior to the Kraft brand.
