I am looking to possibly book OKW for next summer for just a few days, with the idea of NOT going to the major parks, and just having fun doing the extras. That being said, and not being real concerned with bus schedules, etc. what buildings would you recommend as a request based on the following details:
- 1 bedroom N/S
- 2 DD's (ages 15&10 at that time)
- Prefer upper floor
- Prefer quiet (avoid road noise)

I'm looking at the Turtle Pond Road area - am I going the right direction with this?

I know the Florida law regarding roller blading - does this include the Micro scooters as well. We'd be driving, so we could throw them in there, but not looking to break any laws!

I'm reading that buildings in the 60's are the only ones with elevator's (assuming mostly accessable rooms). My question is, is there bell service at OKW like at the other resorts, that will deliver our luggage, or will we be driving up and unloading our own car?

Also, read that only buildings 30 and above have separate bathroom access. Does that mean that the building numbers lower than that must go through the Master BR to get into the bath?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm really up for giving OKW a try, just don't want any surprises that DH will be upset with me about!

Thanks.

Yes, in the buildings lower than 30 you have to cut across a corner of the master bedroom to reach the bathroom. The later/higher number buildings punched another door through the laundry room that allows access.

There are bell services but if you are driving your own car you'll have to make a point to ask for assistance. Generally, people handle their own luggage if they are driving but help is there if you'd like it.

Rather than picking certain areas or buildings I'd go with ranking your preferences -- 1) No Smoking 2) Upper Floor (you might want to specify 2nd floor if you think 3rd floor would bother your husband

No road noise isn't one of the options. You might want to ask for golf course view since that will generally put you further into a unit.

I was curious whether Disney had put anything into effect regarding the scooters. My guess is that they wouldn't be welcome at OKW since they would be very dangerous around the busses and distracting to the golfers.

I'd be very careful using those scooters on OKW property. There are no shoulders on the roads and the lanes are just big enough for buses to get by. I think the same holds true for all the roads on Disney property. There'd be no room for you to move over if there were traffic, unless there is grass on the side of the road. Also, there are signs posted on the paths through the golf course prohibiting pretty much anything except golf carts and walking.

The information provided at check-in will have a section about roller blades/scooters. It is against Florida law to use them on sidewalks, roadways and parking areas. They suggest calling the front desk for suggestions where they may be used safely.

I'm sure they can be used on the OKW/DD walkway.

Here is some other <a href="http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=1251562#post1251562">information about OKW</a> that may help.

Enjoy!

We stayed at OKW in March and I really liked the place. Everything was spead out enough to make it feel like a real home away from home on the golf course and convenient enough to the parks to be a part of the Disney 24/7 Magic.
Forget the rollerblades, microboards and anything else except your sneakers. There is no way the girls are going to have fun dodging cars and busses on those tight corners and narrow roads.
To me and my wife It makes no sense staying on Disney property unless you're planning on going to the Disney parks everyday and taking advantage of the Disney transportation system.

We stayed in building 31 a couple years ago, it was very quiet. It's only a 2 story building, so 2nd floor would be top floor.

Just ask for non-smoking, upper floor, and building number above 30. That makes for 3 requests which is about all you can hope for especially in the summer. Most one bedrooms are quiet enough. I would leave the scooters at home.
