We're staying in a 2 bedroom October 9th-16th. I understand that these buildings have elevators and guests with mobility issues have priority. First, let me say that I am not trying to cheat the system or whatever. I have a brother who is handicapped so I know how frustrating it can be when that happens. That being said, my parents will be traveling with us. They are in their 70's and both have had both knees replaced. My mother has issues with her ankles and can have a hard time when on her feet a lot getting around well. I fully expect that she will need to take lots of breaks and may even break down and get a scooter. Is this considered reason enough to request these buildings? Or should I just ask for a room close to a bus stop? Again, I don't want to take a room away from someone who really needs it. I just want to get the best place for my parents

Try for building 62, or your next best bet is request a ground floor unit in the miller road or south point area. That way you will be the 2nd stop for the bus, that will help with being able to get one of the 2 spots for a scooter.

I agree, those buildings are not that close to a bus stop, especially if not 62. I would ask for ground floor, very close to bus stop.

I don’t have any room advice, just wanted to say that if she is willing to get a scooter, it will probably make her trip much more enjoyable! :)

Agree!!! But she's just a tad on the stubborn side. I think I'll have to let her try it a day or two without and decide on her own she wants one.

At OKW, I have always requested first floor or an elevator building, and I mentioned for mobility issues. Only once I didn’t get it, and that was a very difficult stay.

Oh my goodness! Just the thought of this is stressing me out! Were they not willing to move you?

The only way to 100% guarantee 1st floor is if you book a handicap room and they do fill up fast.

I travel with someone who can not walk up stairs at all so it is very tough. I have no choice but to book handicap when I visit OKW.

OKW was on my list of home resorts to consider when we add on, but if there is a risk of getting an upper floor room without booking a handicapped room, even a small risk its off the list! I find it to imagine they could not accommodate a ground floor request though!

If its a busy time is probably when they could NOT accommodate you. Like thanksgiving week or Christmas week or the 50th weekend.

Just wondering, how many times have you been lucky enough to get an elevator building? The only time we got one was when our first room was totally unacceptable (just before their renovation) and I loved it. But even though we always ask, we haven't gotten one since. MS said that first floor or elevator building for mobility issues is just a request (!), and the only way to be sure is to request a HA villa, and she said "Yes, even if you don't need one."

We only got an elevator building once.
