OKW Beds: Hard As A Rock? Or Just Us?

Wow... The thing I hate most when staying anywhere, is an uncomfortable bed! This will be my first time at OKW, and my DD and her family will be at SSR. This is not what I want to hear! :sad2: DD and I each have really nice beds at home, so it could be something that puts a bit of a damper on things. I guess I'll ask for an eggcrate, and hope for the best...

Add me to the list of people who experienced this. DH and I called them prison beds.

I didn't know about the egg crates then, but I'll surely request them if we stay again. Otherwise it's one of my favorite resorts.

does anyone know what brand of mattress is used at SSR? I really liked those beds two weeks ago--and when I came home and my back started hurting again on my mattress I wanted my SSR bed back!

Yes, I love the beds at SSR. I almost bought a new set from Costco, but I want to make sure I get what SSR has.
We stay in the 1 bedroom and the only thing that makes that King bed better are my 1000 thread count sheets I keep in my Ownerslocker:cloud9:

I just had my assistant call SSR--Mousekeeping told her that the beds at SSR are:

Simmons/Signature Hotel Series

Hope that helps!

Stayed in room 1331 in bldg. 13 in January and the king bed was rock hard and so were the two queens. I had three egg crates on my side of the bed and then I finally slept. I hope these are the old beds. I would hate to think that these are new. Is there any way to find out what buildings have new beds.

We won't stay at OKW any more for precisely that reason. The beds are intolerable. If I want to sleep on a brick-hard surface, there's plenty of space available on the floor. If I want to sleep on a soft surface, I want a mattress that provides it.

We will not stay at OKW ever again because of the beds. I was in tears from the rock hard king bed in the Master bedroom. When we got our room, I noticed that the bed was hard and called housekeeping. They brought an eggcrate and that was suppose to fix things. The egg crate was about 1/2" thin foam, definitely did NOT do a thing to help. I didn't sleep and hurt so bad, I was sobbing. I called the front desk and between the tears told them we were going to have to check out and go to a Holiday Inn or something because the bed was unbelievably horrible. I have ALWAYS enjoyed my Disney trips but this one put me over the edge and I couldn't talk because of the sobs. Another person came to the phone and assured me they could fix things. She sent the maintenance people to our room to see what kind of mattress I had--a brand new one from their report (it was suppose to be HARD). They then brought me a new pillowtop to replace it. They said that some people want the rock hard and others want a soft one. If I ever get a horrible mattress at Disney on one of our trips again, I will complain BEFORE I have a sleepless and painful night and wait there until they bring me a better one. I am shocked at how hard that original mattress was and that some people actually like them. There was absolutely no "give" to the mattress...it was slab of steel hard. I hope the guests who got our villa the next time were ones who could appreciate a firm but comfy pillowtop.

The Dis has some wonderful lists, "best view", "Room locations" ect, Perhaps it's time for a "Terribly Firm Mattress Room List" :headache:

1323 2 bedroom
1331 2 bedroom
1333 2 bedroom
building 15 - 1 bedroom ground floor (room number forgotten)
2211 1 bedroom
2225 studio
2631 King bed

This is really shocking! Those "new" bads are TOTAL CRAP!

Death row inmates shouldn't be forced to sleep on them. I hoped it was an aberration on our January trip, but it looks like someone was dense enough to go out and buy a bunch of these mattresses!

Looks like I'll be firing up a letter to DVC member satisfaction!
