yesdisneyfool...some of the information on this thread and another thread with the same subject is not correct (sorry about the length of this post).
This is what I
KNOW about OKW add-on through Disney.
1) We bought 5 - 125 point contracts, June OKW, from Disney to add on to the points we already have and closed on January 9, 2002.
2) We took advantage of the $10 MB off the $75 price (we got tons of frequent flier miles from American Express as we paid the down payments during their double miles promotion).
3) We are on the waiting list again now for more OKW points.
4) In late October of 2001 we stayed at OKW on one of our trips (it was our 23rd trip since 1995). We visited with our guide and discussed purchasing a 600 point resale. We wouldn't commit to purchasing the resale until Disney made a commitment to allow us to break up the contract into 4 - 150 point contracts.
5) We told our guide that we were planning a major financial commitment to
DVC and as such expected Disney to afford us the maximum cooperation in assisting us reach our goal of acquiring enough points for us to winter at OKW when we retire (2800 points or so).
6) OKW was the ONLY resort we were interested in for too many reasons to list here.
7) We knew that Disney was buying back points on at least an occasional basis from their right-of-first-refusal.
8) We said if you won't let us split up a large resale contract sell us the "dusty points you have in your attic". Of course meaning the points they had been purchasing over the years.
9) Two weeks or so later our guide called us and said he went as far up as he could but couldn't get approval to split up a resale (I know what the official position is on splitting up a resale contract).
10) I asked him to call us back as soon as we could buy the points "you have in your attic".
11) A couple of days later (this is late November) he called me back and said they were starting up a wait list to sell these points and that I was first on the list.
12) A couple of days after that he called and told us the contracts were in the mail.
13) The closing dragged on as long as it did because we originally had 4 contracts of 150 points then decided to make it 5 contracts of 125 points and had to wait for new paperwork.
14) We bought an add-on at OKW in October of 2000 but that inventory came from the Commodore House being removed and the new buildings added to the resort. It had nothing to do with the situation above (we now have 8 add-on contracts).
This is what I
BELIEVE about OKW add-on through Disney.
1) The timing was perfect for what I asked for. OKW, BWV sold out. WLV either sold out or nearly so. BCV wouldn't be available for a few months still. Not to mention the uncertain economy shortly after September 11. How can you keep sales people busy if you have nothing to sell? The answer...look around and fill the shelves with whatever you have that the customer wants to buy.
2) They can break up contracts
IF they want to. They have in the past. They don't want to anymore.
3) Points from each of the sold out resorts will become available and they will sell them.
ps. I'm writing this from home (early am) but we'll be at OKW this afternoon until Friday the 12th so don't be offended if I don't reply to posts following this one until we get back.
