Hi all,
We just became DVC members and will be staying at OKW in Aug. I would love to know your opinions on the resort in general.
Also, want to know if there is a fee to use the washer/dryer? I understand the laundry facilities are in the room but do you need quarters to operate? If so, how much? Just want to be prepared.
We have requested a room close to hospitality. Any particular buildings you like? We are travelling with 2 seniors and 2 children.
Thanks in advance!

Actually, the DIS has 2 Vacation club Boards here to answer all questions.

The 2 bedroom villas have a washer and dryer, and you get a small amount of detergent. You don't need quarters.

The DVC Boards are full of threads about OKW, I have never stayed there. Happy hunting!

We rented points from a DVC owner for OKW for July last year. I wanted to be close to the hospitality house and he requested building 62, it was perfect. You can't get much closer and it had an elevator. I don't know if it's true, but I've heard some of the buildings don't. We were right across the street from the main pool, Olivia's, the store, bus stop, game room, and check-in area. We loved it. W/D are free in the room. Very handy.

Only buildings 62, 63, 64 have elevators.

In the one and two bedroom villas you get a huge (to a Brit, anyway!) washer and dryer in a completely separate room. I found this such a useful facility on our trip - it was my very own little Magic Kingdom!!!!

We all thought OKW was beautiful and so relaxing. We were in Building 28, which was very handy for the main area. Though some people aren't keen on 28 and 29 because you can't see much from the balcony through the vegetation, we loved it because it made it so shaded and private. Everywhere has it's good points for someone!!! :)

Yes, and 64 does not have it's own parking lot. So with seniors, this may be a little tough. We stayed in 62 once and loved it---had a view of Illuminations at night and very close to the bus stop and HH.

Full size washer and dryers in a separate laundry room...unlimited use...they do provide a one use box of tide. I bring or purchase there my own detergent. We always enjoy being by the main pool and HH house, but I think all areas of the resort have their advantages.

We will be there 8/20 to 8/27. I can't wait.

OKW is perfect. Quite, charming, family oriented and clean.

There is no fee for the laundry. Bring Purex Tablets with you for extra detergent. They give you one but it is never enough. (I do laundry each night).

Tell member services that you are traveling with seniors. The third floor can be tough late at night after a full day at the parks. They maybe able to accomodate you.

You do not need to stay close to HH to enjoy yourselves. We love South Point and Turtle - they have their own pools and Turtle has concessions.

Fellow Brit, you are so right, whilst I am not an owner at OKW,I think the resort is lovely the biggest rooms in WDW property.

You'll all love OKW! I'd put in a request for either "bldng. with an elevator" or "ground floor" since you're traveling with seniors...as mentioned, there are only 3 bldng's in the entire resort with an elevator so you may have a better shot at "ground floor"...JMO;)

As for the laundry room....1bdrms and larger as already mentioned have them right in the villa absolutely free of charge, just be sure to bring along extra detergent and some dryer sheets:) For anyone else interested who may be staying in a studio, there are w/d's by each pool also free of charge :)

The only other thing I can really mention is that building #'s 29 and lower WILL NOT have the 2nd enterence to the main bathroom through the laundry room. If you'll have anyone sleeping in the living room on the pull out sofa this is something you may want to be aware of as they will need to go through the master bdrm to enter the bathroom if they need to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. Bldng.#'s 28 and 29 are right near Hospitality house facing the main pool on Penninsular rd. so you may want to be aware of this if you've requested to be near HH. Building #'s 30 and higher will all have the 2nd enterance through the laundry room to the bathroom.

Have a wonderful trip...y'all are gonna love OKW!

One other suggestion for you if you are requesting 1st floor or elevator building. Be sure to state EXACTLY why you need this, and at check-in, you might want to be sure you are not underneath a Grand Villa, as the hard wood floors in a GV are quite noisy for the 2 bedroom unit below.

my hubby/I and 2 children will sleep in the master bedroom. My in-laws will take the 2nd bedroom.
We did not request a room with 2 entrances into the resort from outside but one with 1 main kitchen area. Also, we do not want a situation where they need to use the washroom in the middle of the night and wake up the kids.
We will be getting a 2 bedroom.

We were there a few weeks ago and the snack shop by the Turtle poole is closed indefinitely. It took almost an hour to go to the main pool and get ot dogs for the kids.

Why did it take so long ? Did you hear anything about why it's closed I'm wondering ?

OK, here's the set up in a 2 bedroom unit at OKW...

There will be a master bedroom with a king size bed, a queen-sized fold out in the living room. The Master bedroom and fold-out share the master bathroom ...in bldgs 29 and lower the master bath can only be entered through the master bedroom, in bldgs 30 and higher, there is a second master bathroom entrance through the laundry room. You will also have a 2nd bedroom with two queen beds and a full bathroom.

It sounds like you reserved a dedicated 2-B/R unit. If so, then the only difference between that and the floor diagram that Chuck S shows is that the unit will not have the outside doorway as shown, and instead will have a wardrobe closet in that location.
