Okay, so how wet am I going to get on Splash Mountain?

I did a quick search and didn't see anything in the last few weeks on this subject so here goes:

I've never ridden Splash Mountain. I simply don't ride water rides because I hate getting soaked and I'm too lazy to bring an entire wardrobe change to the park with me. Plus, my hair is long and very thick and takes a couple hours to dry if it gets soaked. And I would feel like a dork wearing a garbage bag. However, I really want to ride SM this time and I'm trying to figure out how to keep getting wet to a minimum.

So, what are my options? I'm thinking I can bring a cap and wrap my hair up underneath it so it doesn't get wet. But will the cap fly off on the way down the hill? I guess I could hold onto it with one hand.

What do you think is the seat where you're less likely to get wet? I checked in the Unofficial guide but didn't see a good answer except to not sit in the front.

I can pick that day as a sandal day so I don't have to worry about my regular shoes getting wet and staying soggy all day. But I'm going in December and there's a chance it could be cold so I might not be able to wear my sandals that day.

We're going to the MK three different times on our trip, once for MVMCP so I could wait until late at night, right before we go, to ride so if I do get wet it's just the ride back to Pop for me to worry about. Then we're going back the next afternoon to see Spectro and Wishes so I could do it before that. Or we're spending the morning and afternoon there the day after that so i could ride it during the day. So, is day or night better?

Should I just ride it all three trips and say to heck with it, if I get wet I get wet and stop being a whiny baby about a little bit of water?

You don't get soaked on the ride. You will get wetter in the front than in the back, and on the sides than in the middle. But it is a fun ride and should not be missed. You get wetter by standing on the bridge near the bottom of the flume part of the ride and getting hit with the splash from the boats coming down.

It is hard to say how wet you'll get. I have ridden it and not gotten wet at all and then I have ridden it and just gotten a little sprinkle. Once I rode it at night at DS's baggering and I borrowed his hooded jacket so I wouldn't get wet (it was COLD) and didn't. So maybe if you wear a little rain poncho it would help or if you rode right before you left the park in case you do get wet.

Now, after all that, I guess I am really no help but I have never seen anybody get as wet on Splash as I have Kali River which wets you to the bone!!

Have a great trip and enjoy Splash however you end up riding it!!

Yeah! Okay, I feel better now, it sounds like I won't get too wet as long as I sit in the middle towards the back. I'm thinking I might just bring a pony-o to tie my hair back then tuck it into the back of my shirt. I definitely won't be buying the picture from this ride. I would love to just throw on my rain poncho but I would feel like a dork. I mean, I ride the biggest, tallest coasters in the world with no problem but throw a little water at me and I'll cry.

And I don't think I'll ever be riding Kali, I know that's the one you really get soaked on!

Rode SM for the first time last May, sat in front, right side and got completely soaked. Not kidding. Thank goodness I had an extra shirt on me, but my shorts were very uncomfortable until they dried!

DH sat on the left of me and barely got wet. So stay away from the front right seat!

If you are worried about getting wet, buy some disposable ponchos at the Dollar Tree and wear those on the ride! You can toss them, or pass them on, when you are finished. There are 2 in the package for $1.

Not to make fun of anyone, but I got on with a group of older ladies. It was nice to see them have fun, as my grandmother who was younger than they were talks herself sick all the time. Anyway, they put on ponchos, these plastic bag type things that went over your shoes, and shower caps. I did not laugh but they told me it would be alright to laugh at them.

ok, best non wet spot from an expert- last row on the left. make sure you look up and to the left for the picture and you still have plenty of time to duck

eta: as for the poncho looking dorky- don't worry TONS of people wear ponchos- but don't be surprised if you get razzed by the CMs for it and YES the cap WILL fall off

Perfect! That's the spot I'm heading for then. I hope I can finagle it.

I don't think I could bear the humiliation of wearing a poncho. I think I'm just going to tie back my hair, cross my fingers and hope for the best.

no humiliation, jsut pull out the poncho after you're on the ride....

if you ask the Cm at loading very nicely they'll usually let you choose where to sit, just remeber to get on first....

and be careful of the hat- I can't tell you how many people buy their photo cuz it's the last picture of the hat before it fell off!

The CMs enjoyed making fun of my husband and me when we put on our "protection" to ride Splash Mt (it wasn't real cold, but was at MVMHP and we didn't want to get wet). Better to be safe and wear protection (let's hear it for the dollar store 2/$1 ponchos).

A heads up, even after you go down the big drop you see from the sidewalk, you can still get very wet. In fact, that is where we always get the wettest. After you land and go around a bend in the "river", you get in a line of boats to be unloaded. If the line is stacked up, you get hit with splashes from other boats behind you. It's the reason everyone says to stay on the left side of the boat. Beware.

How I remember it: Getting wet or staying dry is all in the timing of the flumes. After the drop your flume goes around the bend. Then right before you enter that last cave area before the unloading dock is where you might get soaked. This all depends on the timing of another flume going down the drop, and if you are right in the splash zone, you will get pretty much soaked no matter where you sit. But it's all good! Wear a poncho and you'll be fine no matter what! It's one of my absolute favorite rides.

Everything you've heard so far is true- you get the wettest sitting in the front on the right. I usually tie my hair up before I ride. Have fun, and don't forget to pose for the picture!

.....but if you really really really want to get wet on Splash Mountain, you and one other full-sized person must sit in the front row of a log that has no one else in it. DH and I got swamped that way. (It was so funny and unexpected.)

On the other hand, when I rode in the front all by myself, no one else in the log with me, it wasn't so bad, because there wasn't as much weight to splash down at the bottom of the drop.

Yeah, that was my thought on my last trip. I sat in the back on the left and got a face full ! Luckily, it wasn't cold out. Don't miss this ride though, it is one of our favorites .

SM IS LOTS OF FUN AND MY HUSBAND STILL MOCKS ME BECAUSE HE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO GOT WET. WE ALL PUT ON OUR PONCHOS ON THAT COLD DECEMBER NIGHT AND GOT ON SM. WELL SOMEHOW HIS PONCHO HAD A RIP RIGHT IN THE NECK LINE AND HIS BACK GOT DRENCHED. HE THOUGHT I SET THAT UP BUT IT WAS ALL HONEST.

Okay, now I'm scared again!

I think I've changed my mind and I'm going to have to take any CM joshing and wear a dreaded poncho. The more I think about it the more I think I'm not going to be a happy camper if I have to walk around for several hours in wet clothes. And I do want to be a happy camper when I'm at WDW.

Thanks everyone, for all of the info about the ride. I'm really looking forward to it as I've always heard such great things about it but always been too chicken to take the water. I'm sure I'll survive.

A poncho is a good idea.
Not only will it keep you protected from splashes, but it will protect you from water that is already on the seat when you get in.
If there was no one in that row of the log on the last trip down (or if they were to small to soak up much water), the seat will already be wet when you sit down. There is nothing worse than having the rest of you dry and having your seat all wet (spoken from experience).

After you come down the flume and turn the corner, there are 2 places you might get wet (splashes from the right). The first is just after you turn where you might get splashed by the next logs coming donw (as mentioned by others). The second place is a waterfall (also on the right) just beyond that.
