Hi - :cheer2:

we are going to POR in Sept and wondered whether to ask for a Magnolia Bend room or a Alligator Bayou room - we like nature and quiet. There are four of us - two adults and two children. Any ideas?:hippie:

We're going to WDW for a conference, and then moving to POR for the vacation portion of our stay. We chose to leave the decision up to Disney. Requested peaceful and quiet, reserved a King.

We're hoping for a relaxing and fun few days!

(What I didn't leave up to chance were dinner ressies. We have ressies for about 2/3 of our stay.)

Magnolia Bend definitely. We have had two different rooms in AB during 2005 trips and both had issues. Mousekeeping managers told us at one point that some things were inexcusible but others were due to the fact that the building was older and there was only so much they could do.

Please believe me when I say it... They really could have done more. I know that POR has a very loyal following and I had expected to be positively thrilled with the pools & close proxmity to DTD for the teens but I was disappointed in the AB section not just once but twice. Wished we'd stayed in the MB section instead.

DD 17 is a real ecology-minded, nature loving kid and plans on a career working with animals but we also weren't impressed by the overgrown nature walks all the way from the parking lot to the room at night with small children. We wondered more than once if there might not be real aligators waiting along the bayou paths at night. If you ask me that's one resort that really needs valet parking :lmao:

But seriously, when we passed the pretty MB rooms they looked so much nicer & well kept than the overgrown feel the AB area left us with...

I loved the mansions section when I stayed there in '06. Especially the bunnies hopping around on the lawns (though they might be on the other side too, they also live at the WL!)! AB looked nice too, but not my style. Request Magnolia Terrace or Oak Manor, they are closest to the main building.

Well, I am going with AB :)

In 2004 We were first assigned to Magnolia Terrace - at check-in the CM said we were very lucky because it is the most requested building. We were stumped as to why because it was a maze! LOL We walked and walked and walked going around this corner, then that corner, trying to find our room. LOL We do not get lost easily, so we were laughing at how ridiculous we felt. :)

We called the front desk from the room, they moved us to AB building 14 - it had just been refurbished and even still had that new, fresh smell. We were directly next to the main building - almost too close. We joked that if we fell out of bed we'd be in the food court!

On our next visit in 2006, we requested AB 14 or 27 as we'd heard 27 was a pretty walk along the water. Again we were in AB 14, corner room sort of facing the trees and parking lot, again directly next to the food court. It was fantastic!

Admittedly, would not want one of the distant buildings or to be too far in the middle, but would not want that on the Mansions side either.

The thing is, we all have our preferences and what some of thik is great, is just the opposite for other guests. :)

POR is not our favorite resort, but would definitely stay again. :)

Have a great trip!!!

It has been a very long time since I stayed at POR (1999), but we loved the AB area - and we, too, were in Bldg 14 then. My youngest son was just barely 2 then and the trundle bed was a great ammenity.

Enjoy!

Yes, AB Building 14 is truly an amazing location. Seeing as it is probably the most requested building on the AB side, it might be hard to get, but we've requested it and gotten it every time except once.

I definitely prefer AB. I don't know about the overgrown paths, seeing as I havent stayed here in a year, but from my experience AB is definitely the way to go!

Have a great trip either way!

Love POR! Stayed in Paterre Place, AB Building 38 and 18. Much preferred AB! Building 18 was an excellent location, and overlooked the "natural" part of the gounds (no parking lot views here!). It was close to the food court, Ol' Man Island, marina, and the main bus stop. We even had a quiet pool just around the corner. Building 38 was very serene, but a farther distance from the main buildings, but the bus stop was very close. Again, no parking lot view. I'll be back again in April, and can't wait to book!

I love to hear great things about POR. We're counting the days until we're there! I noticed you're from Winnipeg. My fav group is from there. I'm a huge Wailin' Jennys fan.
