I'm working tomorrow. Yea!! :teeth: I'll be working for the agency I've been working with so far. This time in their own office and their own work! :)

That's kinda neat! :cool1:

I am curious - how do you find a job without using your current employer as a reference?

I have absolutely no idea. I filled out the application online prior to interviewing for the elderly clinic position and I can't remember if I put it was ok to contact my current employer.

The doc called today to let me know he told HR he wanted me. I asked him questions that I had. The manager (who is no longer the manager) had discussed my salary with HR and she wanted to bring me in at LESS than the midpoint of the salary range. I just asked the doc for at least midpoint. I also asked for relocation assistance.
HR then called me and formerly offered me the job plus told me I will get the midpoint salary plus money to relocate! It never hurts to ask!!! It is still a good drop in salary from what I am making now but that made me feel better.
I then formerly accepted the job. She asked what if my current employer counter-offers. I told her I wouldn't even consider staying here. My family is up there and I am ready to go.
So tomorrow I have to tell my boss :earseek:

Thanks, Legs. :)

TigerBear...I've completed a lot of applications that ask if they can contact your current employer. When I was searching while I was employed, I checked off "no." They've always been okay with that and said they would contact them if/when I was hired. If there's anything derogatory they don't like, I'm sure they wouldn't hesitate to let a person go.

How did I miss your post last night, Legs? I guess 12:16 a.m. was too late for me!

Congrats!!!! How did it go today when you told your boss?

I'm having a good time at the temp job. Had a call this afternoon from the credit union I sent a resume a couple months ago. Ack! They made me cry!! And scream!! It has not been a good day overall thanks to them. They want me to interview for a receptionist's job.  I've been screaming and yelling at the guy upstairs.
frown.gif
I swear he must have forgotten about me and DS. A LOUSY receptionist's job won't cut it! I feel like I'm always between a rock and a hard place and told the woman I would be there Tuesday.
rolleyes.gif
So I'll be fighting with myself all weekend. I can't afford to work a crappy paying job. My level of crapiness in jobs is terrible as it is!!
frown.gif
At the same time I need a job and benefits.  Did I say I hate my life today? And this is in their real estate office. Ack! To me that means they're open some if not all evenings and weekends. Want to bet they'll be looking for me to cover some hours? I can't do that and I don't want to do it!

And working this temp job, I see how many Admin Assts are out there applying for the same job. :scared1: It's frightening!! I'll go cry a bit more now.

 PW
Maybe you should try a hospital. I know you're probably sick (ha ha) of working at a hospital but they do pay pretty well and usually have good benefits.

Resignation went very smoothly. Everyone was shocked. My boss knew something was going on because I kept trying to get a hold of her for a meeting. Something I never do. My co-worker was just staring at me with his mouth hanging open. My insurance benefits are good until the end of the month.
It's going to be hard to take dd out of a really good school and I don't know what new school she will attend.
I can't believe this is all happening. I really did it! No turning back now. I pray it all works out. I am so exhausted tonight!

:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc Yea, Legs!! That wasn't so bad, was it! Kind of felt good I bet. :) Especially seeing your coworker's mouth drop open!! :teeth: How far of a drive is it if you have to wait a bit for your house to sell and find something? I'll keep my fingers crossed your house sells quickly! :) Start doing your homework on schools.

Thanks for the   . Ack! A hospital? Yes, I'm sick of them! :earseek: I will be checking their web sites any way.

How are you doing PW? I've thought about you this weekend.

It's final- I will be staying with a friend of my mom's until my house sells and I buy something up there. My mom and sister don't have any room. So I have to send dd to the school their address dictates. I hope it's a good one! Not sure what I will do if it isn't.
I didn't get as much done this weekend as I'd like. I feel so overwhelmed! I feel like my life is totally going to change. It feels so out of control!

FLM- Where are you? Hope everything is ok!

And we know what CM is doing!

Hi, Legs! :wave2:

I'm doing okay. Still don't know what to do about this job. I was online today and sent a resume to another agency. Got the phone and address of another and will be contacting them this week. Also found a weird ad in the paper. I know sometimes places like to see you in person if you're dealing with the public a lot, but this is another ridiculous receptionist's job...the ad said apply in person and gave the address! No phone, no name of the company, just show up! :sad2: That just seems too weird.

Good luck with DD's new school. Just remember it's a temporary stop until you get settled. I think feeling overwhelmed is normal for a new job and a move! And doing it alone and with a child makes it more stressful I think. Yes, your life is going to change totally! When things start falling into place, you'll feel better. I know of a great realtor if you need one. I'm still amazed he was able to do what he did! My house sold for more than double what I paid for it! :teeth: :Pinkbounc

Hmmm.....I guess they really like to see people first and then find out the details.
Good luck deciding about the job!

My friend is a realtor so I will probably go with her. She said she would charge a 4% commission. Is that decent? Or I may go with Assist 2 Sell. No matter what the value of your house is, they charge a $3995 commission.
I may put the house on the market after I move out. The realtor said houses sell better empty and I don't have to deal with keeping the house up and people coming in. Then after I'm out my friend would do a top to bottom cleaning.
My house should sell for almost triple what I paid but it took almost 20 yrs. for the value to go up! :earseek: After walking around this neighborhood this weekend, I can say I am so glad I am leaving it! I hope to buy in a much better neighborhood up there since it is more affordable.
I am trying to fight off a cold (probably got dd's). I don't need to be sick right now. I am taking Airborne and Zicam together.
On top of all this- this coming up weekend we are supposed to go to Disney to celebrate my neice's 8th birthday. NOT good timing at all but it was planned months ago. My sister would shoot me if I didn't go.

JUST in case I don't make it on the boards before then.. :grouphug:

Hi, FF! :wave2: Happy Holidays to you also. :) And have a GREAT time at Disney!!

Legs...A 4% commission is better than the usual 6% they all charge!!! Depending on what your house sells for, the other may be a better deal. Wow...you've had your house 20 years? You're not old enough to own it that long!!! :) Triple or more sounds great! I owned my home 7.5 years. I would think showing an empty house would be a good thing. Especially if someone wants to move in quickly.

The interview went well. First time I've met with three people at one time. One person was from the HR dept., the other two from the real estate office. I got to shoot the breeze a bit with the HR person since the other two were running behind. She was asking me about the move here and thought I left at the right time. Yes! Missed 4 hurricanes!! She was telling me about her having friends on both the east and west coasts of FL. Also talked about Hurricane Isabel last year. That must have gotten to the topic of winter weather here and me asking if I need snow tires. Ha ha! She said no, it doesn't snow enough to justify the cost of snow tires. Said just drive slowly and mentioned that everything shuts down. Said the main roads are cleared, but not the side roads or those going to schools. Then she mentioned the kids being off from school 9 days last year!

Wow! So even though I knew the pay for this job would stink, which it does, (let's say it would set me back at least 10 years) I think it was good to go and talk with the HR person!!!!!! Between the conversation we had and all the interview questions, I think she has a good idea about what I can do. So tonight I want to write out their thank-you notes. In hers I will mention that I would appreciate it if she keeps my application on file and keep me in mind if an admin asst or secretarial position opens up. And it's back to searching!!

Nothing much going on here. Getting cold here this weekend. Go from 80 degree weather down to the 60's. YIKES!

Well that's a nose dive! We're at 48 degrees here now. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/28/28_3_8.gif' alt='Too Cold' border=0></a> That feels like 30 degrees to me being used to the FL weather.<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/28/28_3_8.gif' alt='Too Cold' border=0></a> I'm ready for my gloves driving in the mornings!

I'm freezing down here! It's just so bad going from one extreme to the other so fast.

That's for sure. DS thinks he's still in FL and goes out without a jacket all the time. :earseek: I'm always telling him to go get it. Now we're to the point of just leaving one in the van for convenience sake.

Still not getting anywhere here on decorating the house. Just have my candles in the windows. Seems I have the fight going on inside...I really don't want to decorate the house, but I should do something for DS. Is it January yet?

Hey, we were in Orlando this weekend. There was frost on the car window Sunday morning. Brrrr. We rode the water launch from Ft. Wilderness to the Wilderness Lodge to have dinner Saturday evening. It was cold to start with but it was also very, very windy. Brrrr. We took the bus home later that night.
But we had a great time. We were celebrating my neice's birthday. They delivered balloons and a signed card from Mickey about 10 min after I arrived at the cabin. We went to the marshmellow roast/ sing-a-long/movie. We saw MK fireworks from the beach at Ft Wilderness and the electric water parade (they've cut that way down!). I saw the Osborne Lights for the first time. All I can say is "WOW!". Make the 2 WOWS. One for the lights and one for the long, long line to see them! The lobby of the WL is decorated for Xmas and it's so beautiful. We had a really fun dinner at the Whispering Canyon. It was so fun there for the kids. My BIL (Mr. Army) even got up and danced 5 Little Buttercups! My neice stood on a chair and eveyone in the restaurant sang Happy Birthday to her. The kids got to ride stick ponies around the restaurant. And my little nephew asked for ketchup. It was so funny to see his reaction.

PW- My dd is what motivates me to decorate.

I have been having 2nd thoughts about this whole moving/changing jobs thing. I've had the worst feeling in the pit of my stomach all weekend. Is this normal????

Hey! Florida is colder than we are this morning! :teeth:  Where I am it's 51 degrees, Virginia Beach is 53, and Boca Raton, FL is 49!!!

:earseek: :earseek:

To me second guessing is normal. You're about to change two (at a minimum) major things in your life...your home and your job. Then add in changing DD's school and a few other things. On more than one occasion I wondered if I was doing the right thing by moving. Every time it entered my thoughts I reminded myself of how unhappy I was for quite a while. That kept me focused on making a change. But in the end...I LOVE it here and am soooooooooooooooooooo glad I did it!!

I remember the first time I was on the phone with my realtor in VA. She was asking what I was looking for in a house, what area, etc. Then she said...so when are you coming up to look around? :earseek: Then I felt completely overwhelmed. Just thinking...Holy molie! Packing up the entire house and moving to another state! :faint: Actually making a separate trip up there to look around? :faint: I doubted several things. But I kept reminding myself that I'd been where I was 15 years. I wasn't happy for several years. It's much easier to stay where you are and keep things the same than it is to make that change. You're set with the job, Legs!! :Pinkbounc Sounds like an exciting adventure. I'm still searching and it's making me nervous.

Off to another interview at an agency today. Booooooooo hissssssssssss!! Cross the fingers please!!

Sounds like your trip was a great one. DD must have had a blast with relatives there, too. Wish I were going. Christmas time is my favorite time to be there.

DS asked about a tree yesterday. I better get moving on that.
