Okay, is delivering a baby really scary?

Princess Aurora I found your post very comforting. Sometimes these books can be so clinical and they don't really give you any advice, its more like, here are the pros and cons and you make the choice. I understand that's the way it should be done, but for someone like me, it's almost better to have someone say, just do it already!!!

Someone abovethread mentioned a little tug when you see babies or toddlers....it's already kind of there. DH and I will giggle over every baby we see....but after my night of reading (and I literally stayed up most of the night reading these books...one was the Unofficial Guide to Pregnancy and the other was Pregnancy Weight Management), I felt like there was no way I could see that as me permanently. Maybe for a week or two, but not forever changed. THAT's what's really scary! The pain is nothing when you start thinking about it like that!!!

Money-wise it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world either, but I don;t know. DH and I intend to sit down tonight and really talk it over...how we really feel about all this stuff. Should be interesting!

Well, good luck. And here's another piece of advice...don't buy anymore books, especially if you do decide to try to have a baby. With my first pregnancy, I lived off all those books. But I swear, they're just written to scare the crap out of you. I constantly thought I was "this" close to dying or something because of all the scarey stuff in the books. It's like, why can't someone just write a book called, "All the Wonderful Stuff About Being Pregnant" The point is, books can be overly dramatic about EVERYTHING. I think once you and your husband talk about it, you will know if you want one. It becomes one of those things that you really have to have and you can't stop thinking about it. Again, good luck :) :Pinkbounc

Just my opinion - I think maybe if you guys have to sit down and talk about it, you aren't quite ready.

Not that you shouldn't discuss a decision that big, but when you are ready you'll just do it, jump right in and figure all the other stuff out later.

good luck.

Could be...I've been waffling for ages, but we are "talkers" by nature...very analytical (we're both lawyers). This is the way we always make decisions, plus it's kind of nice to see where he stands. DH's trouble is that he tends to stand where I stand...that is, if I say I want to do this, he's right behind me. I want to know what he really thinks.

Giving birth was not scary - the prospect of paying his college loans off, that's the scariest and most painful thought I have ever had.

But really, I wish to could tell you about the pain of delivery, but it the joy of having the kids made me forget!!!!!

I had a horror of a labor/birth with DS last summer. I will not go into details since I don't want to scare you more than you already are. I ended up with an emergency c-section (which is what I wanted all along anyway since I was terrified of delivering a baby!).

What you need to know is that even though I was terrfied before even getting pregnant (like you are), it was worth it. Everyone says it, and it's true!

For weeks and months after DS was born, I told EVERYONE that if I ever thought of doing that again, to please hit me over the head. Well....DH and I are already talking about trying for #2 (and last). DS is only 10 mos. old. Go figure! In my case though, I will have an automatic c-section - they will not even let me attempt a VBAC.

And going back to your comments about affording it, etc. - we did the same thing. Then one day figured we weren't getting any younger (both over 30) and that we would be kicking ourselves if we put this off any further. And DS was born 9 mos. later!

One day you guys will also just say, what the heck, and do it.
