On a previous posting, everyone kept saying the miss what Richyams would say ect.. Who is he and why is he missed?

Rich was a DIS member who mostly posted on the DVC Forum (and the old Debate Forum) - he was one of the "old timers" that have been around for a long time - when the DIS first started. He recently died. He was quite a character and loved to "yank people's chains" - mostly by comparing all DVC resorts unfavorably (with humor if you were able to read between the lines, of course) with his beloved OKW.

Best wishes -

Richyams was a long time frequent poster on this Board, possibly one of the first DVC members. He was very opinionated on several issues (renting, 5 in a room, DVC salesmen, etc), but even more had a wicked sense of humor and loved to goad people into debates. OKW was beloved to him and he loved to tease other owners by making outrageous statements about the "looong hallways at BWV" and "small rooms". It was usually done tongue in cheek but new posters here often took him seriously and he would get them going. He had absolutely priceless stories to tell. There was one about cooking pickled pigs feet in a GV at OKW that made me laugh so hard I cried.

Richyams died very suddenly last year in his forties of a heart problem. He is sorely missed by many of us.

He was a very funny, very nice, and VERY fanatical OKW owner...who passed away WAY too young a few months ago (I think he was in his 40's). He left behind a teenage daughter, and a very sweet wife who posts here sometimes.

He had a TOTALLY "biting" sense of humor....seriously, he and "rinkwide" would've been best friends had they ever met!!!

I think he essentially "coined" the LOOOONNNNNG hallways complaints about BWV. He was also frequently lamenting how all resorts' rooms were WAAYYY to small, except of course...his beloved OKW. He REALLY should've been president of the OKW fan club....who knows....maybe he is now!!!

for those of us who did not have the pleasure of knowing him, does anyone have any "classics" we can read?

The real Rich Hyams was the custodian at the BWV who had the unpleasant task of keeping clean all of the endless hallways there. One could often hear him grumbling about the length of those hallways, and pining for his previous assignment: OKW.

;)

Richyams is the man who taught (at least) me that the people on these boards are much more like family than I ever realized.

I felt like I had lost a dear friend when he passed away. His wife Lisa occasionally posts under his sig, and it is always good to hear from her.

Not many people could carry off the tag line - "A Man, A Legend, A Way of Life"!!!

He could.

Boy, I wish I was psoting when he was around. He sounds like he was a very interesting guy.

Rich is missed here. I was thinking of him and what his comment would be when the new DVC Community Board came to be. It takes us more time now to keep completely up to date on DVC issues and our DVC neighbors. I bet even this thread gets moved to the new board. Hey Rich, you have to go to the new board now, old friend. Missed but not forgotten.

If you go over to the In Memoriam board, you'll find a number of threads concerning Rich. There are also some photos in some of the threads.

Although Rich did not get to participate on the DVC Community Board, I was thinking how appropriate for a question to be asked about him here. He was a big fun part of our DVC board community and will indelibly be etched into my mind anytime someone suggests BWV halls are looong and the rooms are the size of closets.

One thing about Rich though...no matter how good he was at razzing people, he was equally a sport when it got dished back at him...the sign of a truly good poster!

He was a fixture here... and his posts would make me smile....

I still miss him.....

Rich was a one of a kind type fellow and I mean that in a very nice way. I know the first few times I read his posts I would think what kind of guy is this. It was like you could see him at his computer just trying to get stuff started. But it didnt take long to figure him out. He relished in getting peoples goats! And he could take it back too! And it was all in fun to him.

He is very much missed here, thats for sure.

Rich was also very intelligent, and knew a lot about a lot of different things, so he could converse--or tease--on almost anything. His wit was sharp, not PC at all, and he probably would have had some pithy things to say about how bland this place is without the Debate Board to spice things up! He died far too soon. :grouphug:

I have to believe that up in heaven, Rich is still the same ....

Saying things like how his cloud (Cloud-9) is the only official 'real' cloud, and how it has so much more room and is so much more comfortable than the other clouds....

And quick to point out how the poor souls on cloud-8 have such a long walk to get to the front edge of their cloud......

And surely he must be complaining about the 'angels' over there on that cloud next to the ocean's edge who are telling the souls who 'landed' there that they can easily use their wings to visit Cloud-8 or Cloud-9 anytime they want. Secretly revealing to us that they're not angels, but devils in disguise.....

We all loved his wit.

Sorry if you don't understand the 3 items above. Those who knew Rich and his posts will recognize him in each one.

Miss Rich's posts. He really knew how to spice things up and keep things from getting booooring!

His contributions really did make the DVC board seem like a community board. Sometimes when I read a post now I can just imagine what Rich would post in response. But anyone else postin the same just wouldn't be the same!

LOL... :rotfl:

Nicely done, Bill! :)

He is certainly quick to point out that the nice thing about Cloud-8 is that you can reach your harp no matter what corner of the cloud you happen to be sitting in!
