Think of the monorail as a big circle with stops along the way. If you start at the TTC (ticket & transportation center, parking lot for Magic Kingdom) and get on the monorail you will hit the following stops in order

I think if my memory is correct.
Going counter clock wise: TTC, Contemporary Resort, Magic Kingdom, Grand Floridian, Polynesian, then back to TTC......and on and on, round and round!
To add confusion I think the monorail to the Magic Kingdom may go through the resorts but does not stop at them. I am thinking they call it the express monorail and it only makes actual stops at Magic Kingdom and the TTC.
Now if you start at one of the resorts then I think the resort monorail goes the opposite direction or clock wise: so you have Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Magic Kingdom, Contemporary, TTC and then back to the Polynesian. This monorail stops at every place I listed.
Like others have said you can get off at the TTC and go down one ramp, back up the other side and get on the other monorail track that takes you to Epcot!
I hope that helps a bit. Don't worry the monorail is very well signed and as long as you read the signs you will get on the proper monorail. And if all else fails there is always a Cast Member around to ask.
Dis'ers if I messed this up please correct me.
