between the TTC and the monorail? i am staying at the Poly and trying to figure out which longhouse would be closet to the monorail and main bldg, and have seen statements like "monorail to mk and close to ttc" - i thought they were the same thing!!! sorry for the ignorance....i'm a first timer :)

also, if anyone can recommend the best longhouse to stay in in terms of accessing the monorail (parks) easily i'd appreciate it.

thank you all,

mary

Hi Mary, I'll be staying at the Poly for the first time in another month, so I don't know the answer to your question regarding best longhouse, but I can help with your question on the monorail/TTC.

Each resort on the monorail line has their own monorail stop. So when someone says it's close to the monorail they probably mean the monorail station at the resort. The Poly is within walking distance of the TTC, which as you probably already know, is the main parking area and connection to the monorail and boat to MK, as well as the monorail to Epcot.

Hope this helps!

The TTC is the parking center and a monorail station. TTC has two monorail lines- the one right to MK and the one that stops at all the resorts including Poly.

And there's no such thing as a stupid question....unless its about Universal Studios.

Actually, the TTC has 3 monorail lines; those 2 and the one to Epcot.

And, since the Poly is close to the TTC, when you want to get to Epcot you can just walk to the TTC and get on the monorail to Epcot there rather than taking the monorail from the Poly to the TTC, getting off, walking down the ramp, walking up another ramp, getting on another monorail, and traveling to Epcot.

Welcome to the DIS, Mary. And as said, no stupid questions here...a question is a question. :thumbsup2

One thing to remember about the Poly, even though some of the longhouses are naturally closer to the TTC, or the Cermonial House (main) building, none are really far from either, easy walking distances to either regardless your location at the Poly.

Enjoy.

OK, I have been a Disney obsessed individual for close to 30 years and yet I have never heard the word "longhouse". Can someone please define that for me and then I might know what everyone is talking about.

A longhouse is what they call the hotel buildings at the Poly- I think there are six, and they are all named for Polynesian islands.

Think of the monorail as a big circle with stops along the way. If you start at the TTC (ticket & transportation center, parking lot for Magic Kingdom) and get on the monorail you will hit the following stops in order :rotfl: I think if my memory is correct.

Going counter clock wise: TTC, Contemporary Resort, Magic Kingdom, Grand Floridian, Polynesian, then back to TTC......and on and on, round and round!
To add confusion I think the monorail to the Magic Kingdom may go through the resorts but does not stop at them. I am thinking they call it the express monorail and it only makes actual stops at Magic Kingdom and the TTC.

Now if you start at one of the resorts then I think the resort monorail goes the opposite direction or clock wise: so you have Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Magic Kingdom, Contemporary, TTC and then back to the Polynesian. This monorail stops at every place I listed.

Like others have said you can get off at the TTC and go down one ramp, back up the other side and get on the other monorail track that takes you to Epcot!

I hope that helps a bit. Don't worry the monorail is very well signed and as long as you read the signs you will get on the proper monorail. And if all else fails there is always a Cast Member around to ask.

Dis'ers if I messed this up please correct me. :wave2:

If you want to be in the know about everything regarding the Polynesian Resort here are two links:

The DIS Resort Link on the POLY: (very long now!)

And Tikiman's Site: (he is a DIS member and frequently checks the site above ... his site is FANTASTIC!)

What everyone said is correct. The Great Ceremonial House (GCH) is sort of the center of the universe for the Poly (not necessarily the very center of the resort but easily gotten to from all the long houses IMO). We were actually in FIGI which I think is furthest from the TTC and had no problem walking to it. (And I am no spring chicken).

You can catch the monorail to MK right out the upstairs door of the GCH - it goes round to the Grand Floridian, and next you are at MK! After leaving MK, it then stops at the Contemporary and next the TTC where you can catch the monorail to Epcot and then back to the POLY.

So if you are going to Epcot -- and you feel you can walk 5-7 minutes past the GCH, you can actually walk to the TTC and catch the monorail to Epcot without the trip around the other MK resorts (and past MK). It's like a shortcut! -- first time there we rode around the "long way" -- and giggled cause there we were just a short walk from where we started!!! (Or if you are in a longhouse closer to the TTC, it makes sense to walk there and catch the monorail to Epcot).

One time after Epcot, I was tired and lazy and actually did walk down (I think it was down but it may have been up!) the ramp to catch the monorail to the GCH -- whew, I was just too tired!

LOVED THE POLY - see going again! The busses to AK and MGM are conveniently right outside the GCH too -- about 2 minute walk. :thumbsup2
