Ok to swim on-site if staying off-site?

I know this is not allowed at WDW, but I was reading a DL guidebook and it suggested a break for a swim at th DL hotel pool as a way to cool off in the afternoon. Is this allowed at DL?

I don't think it's allowed but I dont know policy for sure. That being said I've known people that have done it. Specifically at the GC hotel. Of course if you're walking around in a bathing suit and towel I don't know many cast memebers who will come up to you and say "hey are you really staying in this hotel?"

I would assume it's the same at all Disney hotels, but I know you're not supposed to at the GC.

I thought the GC had a key only gate from DTD, so how would you get in? Well anyhow, I am going to say no, I am 99% sure this is not allowed.

Afternoon breaks are not needed as much in CA (compared to WDW) as even on hot days there is a breeze most of the time. We always take our afternoon break in the Ice cream shop on Main Street ;) and we count it as lunch too. If it is a really hot day there are a couple of good things to do to cool off (air conditioned indoor things like the Hall of Presidents) or take a long lunch at the Blue Bayou which is nice and cool (the sit down place that is inside POC, enter around the corner from the POC entrance).

You need a room key to get into the pool areas, That's a pretty good indicator. But still there are those with cast-iron stones that will just walk in right after a real guest. I doubt that anyone would say much.

Good to know. I thought it was strange when I saw it in the guidebook, but it seems like alot of things are different at DL, so I wanted to check. Thanks!

I was going to mention that, but I couldn't recall for sure. I know the pool area was fenced and there was some kind of latched gate. Now that I think about it, I'm sure it was a keyed gate.

Pools that are located in Disney Resort Hotels are for registered guests of that hotel. I was told by a Disneyland operator that if you stay in one of the three Disney Hotels that you can pool hop to the other two hotels but you must be a paying guest at one of the offical resorts. That's what I was told.

I can almost guarantee that it's frowned upon to use any Hotel pool without being a paying guest of that hotel. They don't maintain those pools for free.

CJDrew's Mom don't worry too much about that nasty post. It was very clear to everyone else that read your post that you were just asking because you read it in a guide book. From the posts I have seen tmartin likes to try and cause a fuss...

I think that was a little uncalled for. As I said, I was reading a DL guidebook that suggested this as an option and was surprised by it, as I know when I have stayed onsite at WDW, you cannot even pool hop to other resorts. That is exactly the reason why I questioned it on this board, and I did not expect to be attacked for asking the question. I did not in any way suggest an intention to do so, but if that is a common and acceptable practice at DL (to which I have never been), I would like to have that information before going. Sorry to have caused offense.

It's allright and don't take anything too personally. On the WDW side of the DIS boards the pool hopping question can get you into hot water real quick. I myself am tired of people asking if it's ok to pool hop or use refillable mugs but I knew you weren't one of those misguided souls. LOL! I could tell by your post you were asking a legit question and not trying to get something for free. Things can get a little tense on the boards at times and I've been on the receiving end of it myself so don't worry about it! :cool1:

CJDrew's Mom have you thought about packing along a swimsuit and heading over to A Bug's Land in CA? Every time I go, I wish my kids had one on so they could do more than tiptoe around the puddles. They had great sprinklers last time I went! They have a nice family bathroom right there which I'm sure is used for changing into and out of wet garments. And I agree - don't listen to that mean poster. So not Disney material!!

ditto to HaleyB and disneyfan67.
One of the reasons I love Disboards is because all question are good questions. All questions always should and generally are received with respect. CJDrew's Mom, you owe no apologies.

I believe I've read that there's no pool hopping to GC, but that GC guests can pool hop to either DLH or PP. (No guarantees on that). It may even be that DLH can pool hop to PP but not visa versa. Exceptions are made when pools are undergoing refurbs.

This is exactly what I've heard as well. We're staying at the DLH and I do plan on jumping over to the PPH pool to check things out over there.

CJDrew's mom, ignore the smell that has settled over the boards as of late :sad2: I agree, definitely NOT disney style! You're fine in asking whatever.

Does anyone know what the official word is on "pool-sharing" within the resort hotels? When I stayed at the GC 3 years ago, it was almost encouraged, although their slide was down for refurb, but that was not the reason given. I'm staying at the PP this time (since I need 2 rooms with my expanded group LOL) and I was hoping to hit the DLH Neverland Pool, but I'm unclear on the rules. Can you just see me and my 4 chicks in tow tromping over in our bathing suits only to be turned away! Can anyone help clarify this rule?

Thanks!

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I can confirm or correct what I said earlier, but I'm pretty sure PP guests are not allowed to visit the Neverland Pool. They were allowed to when the PP pool was being remodeled.

Back to the original question, now that I think of it....Perhaps the guide book was not so much mistaken but rather outdated. I don't believe you needed a card access to the pool area at the DLH before the Neverland Pool was built. The DLH did not monitor guests when they had the plain rectangular pool on the DL side of the Sierra Tower. I remember family members that were staying off-site visiting me at the DLH and we all swam without feeling like we were breaking any rules. I also went to their hotel to swim. The DLH welcomed guests to walk the grounds, visit the koi ponds, ride the paddle boats, etc. Once the Neverland pool was built, the rules were changed or enforced. Now, once your checkout time hits (11AM), your card no longer grants you access to the pool, although a guard told me once that they don't worry too much about the guests that continue to use the pool after checkout.

The rules have changed over the past years/months. Now, I understand the rules to be that the GC can pool hop to any pool, and the DLH can pool hop with PP, but PPH guests cannot pool hop now that the pool has been refurbished.

I'm glad to see Mary Jo is helpfull as usual. When I last talked to a Disneyland operator/cm about booking a package she mentioned you could pool hop to any Disney owned resort as long as you stayed at one of the three hotels. I'm glad to see Mary Jo got us a clear answer on what's correct and what's not. It looks like the best bet is to stay at the GC and have access to all three resort pools. Now if I can just convince my wife to let me spend the extra cash to stay at the GC! LOL!

Ummm, I hate to be a pain (okay, I don't hate to be a pain :flower: ) but the last time we were at the PPH in September, well after the refurb which should have been complete in May, pool-hopping to the Neverland Pool was allowed. The time before that, well before the refurb, we also had no problem pool-hopping. I did call the hotel earlier this year, and the person I spoke to said that pool-hopping was not allowed anymore, but then I spoke to someone who had stayed at the PPH recently and they said they had no problem getting in. I have no idea who would actually have a definitive answer to this. I don't know if I'd be willing to trek to the DLH only to find out that my source was wrong, but the Neverland Pool just might be worth it...
