Ok - Pin traders - how many really?

No, not how many in your collection but how many can you really expect to trade in a week? I bought a bunch off of ebay last year for our trip and I didn't really get into trading until late in the week. Once I did I really enjoyed it. The kids really didn't do it much but I have a feeling that they will this year. I've sold some off recently but I also went a little (ok - alot) crazy with buying more on ebay/disneyshopping recently. I now find myself with over 250 traders :faint: How many pins can I really expect to trade in one week? With just 2 kids (6 &4) and myself doing the trading! (BTW, these are all good Disney pins including LOTS of LE and cast lanyard - no sedesma, EuroDisney, dancers or Kodak ones - I got a few of those and I'm thinking of taking them out of circulation for good!)

Maybe we don't try as hard a s some but it seemed that every time we go we don't trade that many pins. My DW and DD are the pin collectors but they are both pretty focused on what they want. Realizing that there are literally thousands of pins out there they have their favorite characters and usually focus in on just those pins. As a result they only wind up finding two or three pins to trade per week long trip. They have never had any success at the pin trades in DTD because most of the traders there seem to be professionals looking for values. All of the trades they do are off CM's lanyards and if they see one they like they buy a cheap pin and make the trade on the spot. Through their efforts they have put together a nice collection and my wife has put together themes and framed some sets that hang in her craft/sewing/collection room at home. She has three Cinderella framed sets and the Disney twelve days of Christmas set.

In a week I would usually trade 20 pins-what I do is 1 pin per day for kids and me-some days I am short...so I think 3 pins per day would give you options to find pins you want.

Thanks for the input. I can see me trading 50+ over the course of the trip. I likely see DS#2 getting more into it than DS#1 but I would rather have too many at $2 -$3 a piece than have to spend $7+ on a pin to trade for something that they want.

I didn't stop at any pin trading stations the last time. What can I expect when I stop at one of those? Like I said I have some good pins that I am looking to trade and I am on a quest for a few things. Are the "sharks" there really as bad as I've heard or are there just a few to look out for?

I probably trade 50+ pins during a week long stay (strictly with CMs). Trading with other PT's is tricky at best. What you may consider a "good" pin somebody else may consider less than average. Have you checked PinPics to see how many people are trading your pins versus wanting? That is often a good indication of trading value. Even then, if you offered me a 250 Pooh LE for a 1,000 Haunted Mansion pin, I would decline the trade. I don't collect Pooh and don't want them in my trader books.

Older pins don't necessarily go up in value. I've been putting 2000 & 2001 LE's on lanyards because I want them out of my trader books.

Good luck!

Let me put it to you this way...I was looking for a pin(not rare, not expensive) just out of stock at the time(the pin is org 7.50) The "guy" at the table outside the pin store wanted me to buy him 3-15.00 pins to trade for the one I wanted(to get for my son)....No Thank you!!!
