What makes Chef Mickey's stand out over the other character breakfasts? Are the waffles made of gold?
Just wondering what the Hullabaloo is over Chef Mickeys.

While the food is good, for us it's the fact that it's one of the original character meals and features the main mouse himself. The setting is also very "Disney" with the monorails gliding overhead in one of the original WDW resorts.

IMO, it is NOT the food. While we have only been there for dinner, the food was nothing spectacular.

The atmosphere is very fun, like a big party. My number one reason for going there is you get to see and meet the most popular characters without waiting in a long line!

It is a lot of fun, and a great way to visit with Mickey and the Fab 5.

I am also pretty sure that it is the only Mickey meal that doesn't require theme park admission so it is great to do on a "down" day.

We usually start our trip there and then ride the monorail around the lagoon to finish off our first night. Gives the kids a bit of the magic!

That being said, I sure miss the original Chef Mickey's that was in DTD years ago!

I have only dined there once and personally will not do it again.

I did not enjoy the food at all. Everything was swimming in grease and I saw a lot of kids with their fingers in the buffet, some adults too.

However, I must say, outside of Tusker House Breakfast, this is one of the best character interactions I had!!

other posters. The food is probably my least favorite of the character meals we go to - yet we go at the end of every trip. It's the characters. The interaction is generally good and the characters themselves are classics.

Oh - and my wife likes it.

I wonder this same thing. I've been and was not impressed. I was shocked to see it included with CRT and V&A as potential 180 day reservations.

This resturant spells DISNEY better than any other. It's not just the food. You have the Atmosphere with the monorail running through over you the carchaters MICKEY & MINNIE Chip & Dale & Goofy. The entermainent with the swining of your napkin. You have the nice desert part to. There is not a better resturant on property that has it all like this one. That's my opinion. Yes I am a big fan have been eating there since it's open sometimes 2 to 3 x's a trip. My boys are 24 to 15 & still love it there. It's a family tradition!

We LOVE Chef Mickey's for breakfast (have not had dinner there).

1. Food: IMO is very good - nice selection of foods on the buffet

2. Characters: The Fab 5: Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto - To my knowledge, no other character meal has these 5 + the character interaction is excellent - we are not rushed and we see some characters twice

3. Atmosphere: Fun, energetic, upbeat - characters parade/dance around to music, napkin waving, etc. - a great way to start the day

4. Service: very good - friendly & helpful - no complaints

We did breakfast and dinner there. Dinner was disappointing as far as the food goes. Breakfast is pretty hard to mess up.

I'll agree with the others, it's a MUST do for us once a trip. Napkin twirling, monorail running overhead, classic characters and great interaction (for breakfast we always get at least one character who sits and plays with the boys. Our sons eyes have always shone with excitement and pure happiness while twirling their napkins for their first "Celebrate" songs. The experience is not to be missed.

The food - well that's why we go for breakfast. Dinner is fine, just not worth the extra money for dinner food for us. Atmosphere is the same at breakfast as dinner.

As far as kids hands in the buffet, well yeah. I've never seen it but all buffets have finger grabby people, I pretty much assume that all buffets are pretty much a petri dish. I just try not to think of it and marvel at the strength of a humans immune system. :rotfl:

I have eaten here once for dinner and thought everything was great includng the food. I am a buffet type of person and enjoyed the wide selection of food. I have not eaten breakfast there but have reservations for my upcomng trip. Looking forward to it....

Overall, the atmosphere and interaction with the characters are the best part.....

We've only done breakfast. We loved it! The food was very good and the characters were great! Looking forward to our next reservation there in September.

For me it's because The Fab 5 are there (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, and Doanld) it's the only meal where both Mickey and Minnie are there. Also it's outside of the parks, so those who want to do a character breakfast with Mickey outside of the park, this is it.

It is a lot of fun, and a great way to visit with Mickey and the Fab 5.

I am also pretty sure that it is the only Mickey meal that doesn't require theme park admission so it is great to do on a "down" day.

Mickey is also at Ohanas breakfast. There must be a special monorail that he takes back and forth between the Contemporary and Polynesian to cover both breakfasts at the same time. whew. poor Mickey. :rotfl:

But Chef Mickey's IS the only place with the fab 5. I think it'd be worth it just for that.

I don't know if we'll ever try CM, though - it sounds loud and the laid-back atmosphere at Ohanas is more my style.

Personally, I can't justify "wasting" an ADR for breakfast when on the DDP. With that said, we do GG for lunch to see Mickey - we like the food better -and then of course having a girl, we do PSB at Akershus for lunch also. And we try to catch the rest of the main characters at AK where the lines seem shorter. But I tend to agree with the OP - and just don't get the big deal at Chef Mickey's - but I do understand many PPs who say it is "tradition."
