Ok I'm nervous...first wait list reservation

Hey everyone!

Ok I just booked my first wait list DVC reservation and I feel like I'm in limbo. I am hoping to get in anywhere December 5-9 but EVERYTHING is booked up! They put me on the wait list for OKW because they said i would have a better chance of something opening up. I wanted to see if you guys could tell me how your experiences with wait list have been. Did you get what you wanted? And do you have any suggestions for a first timer?

Unfortunately, you picked the busiest time of the year for DVC members to need to waitlist. There are bound to be lots of other members who have also waitlisted before you.

In the past I have waitlisted three times - one time for a two bedroom when I already had a one bedroom (just to get extra space) for a week and it didn't come through. This was at SSR. I waitlisted it about four or five months ahead of time. The second time was for a BLT lake view one bedroom villa for four nights at the marathon time. I waitlisted this about six months ahead of time. It didn't come through. Third time was for one night, a Saturday, to add one night to our week's vacation in October. That one we got.

I'd say find something for cash that you can cancel if your waitlist does come through if you really want to go at this time. But I fear it won't.

That is one of the busiest weeks of the entire year for DVC, perhaps even the top week of the year. DVC members like to go in early December because the point cost is low and there is a lot to see and do. Most members book their early December stay 11 months out.

Your chances are slim and your best chance may be at the very last minute due to a late cancellation. Since you can have two active waitlists per UY, set up one waitlist for OKW and the other for SSR (the largest resort) but don't count on either one coming through, have a backup plan in place.

I agree that you should WL both OKW and SSR. OKW would be better because lower points (and nicer resort but that's my personal opinion) but you might have a better chance at SSR.

I think you have a better than 50/50 chance.

You have 2 waitlists so set them both up. SSR is the most likely to come thru and then I lean more towards AKV standard than OKW but it's really a toss up. It just seems like OKW opens up less - my guess is the low point cost.

Also - check the website frequently for those days. You may be able to pick up something and if willing to move you could piece something together. It is probably the most popular DVC time and so very difficult to book this close in.

I'm going same weekend and here's a story of hope! I had ,originally , 4 nights at OKW (home resort) made at 11 months. I waitlisted BLT for first two nights in two view catagories,(wanted BLT due to MVMCP) Lake view waitlist came thru late June At that point I still had last two nites at OKW but wanted to try BWV (trying to talk DW into a DVC purchase there) so I WL two view catagories there (BW view and pool view) That came thru last weekend in July. These were studios since DW and I are without DD's this trip. If you can split it up probably better chance of getting 2 nites at a time.Since my WL came thru it means I gave up OKW rooms 2 nights at a time twice!
