What does that mean we are wearing to the parks that day? Might seem dumb, but we are coming from 20 degrees and I am really not sure what to pack. Granted - the extended forecasts are hogwash - but lets just say that it will be highs of low to mid 60's while we are there........ what should we wear to be comfortable all day?

I go by this rule:

In the winter, I keep my thermostat set at 68 degrees. I'll be walking around in a sweatshirt with a t-shirt beneath it and I'll be comfortable that way. If it's cooler than that, I find that I'm cold almost all the time and I need a quilt or afghan to take the chill off.

Best bet would be to pack layers of clothing. The low this morning in Orlando was 38 degrees (I saw it on an Orlando website). That's even a bit chilly for this yankee. Pack at least one sweatshirt and lightweight jacket. Gloves would not be a bad idea for early morning touring and they take up very little room. If you're coming from a cold climate, you'll probably be wearing those things anyway and won't need to pack them!;)

It depends if the wind is blowing. The wind coming off the water in Epcot can make it feel cooler than it is. I would wear lightweight pants and a tshirt for day and have a light coat or sweatshirt available.

There is a 10 day Orlando Forecast Link at this SITE
Link is on the main page, down a little on the left side bar.

I wore a t-shirt with a sweatshirt and my spring jacket. I found the wind cool. by the afternoon you could take off the sweatshirt, I hate to be cold.

If you are used to 20 degree weather, you will probably be happy with jeans and a long sleeved tshirt. Take a jacket for the early mornings and evenings, because the temps tend to drop into the 40's.

We just got back and the weather was sunny and mid 60's to high 30's. We are from the NW and keep our house at 64 degrees so we thought mid 60's would be tee shirt and shorts. Well its just not the same in Florida. The most we could figure out is if its sunny it seems colder than it is and if its cloudy it seems warmer. We did shorts or long pants then layred tee shirts, fleece vests and wind breakers for the morning/day and added hooded sweat shirts and gloves for the evening. Just pack for layering and you will do fine. No rain at all and almost no wind for us but the weather was changing when we left. One day was warm enough for the pool and one day never warmed up at all. No crouds at all we did 3 shows a parade and KS in 3 hours at Ak just for an instance. Maddy

We were there the week before Christmas and it was in the mid 60s. We were use to the 20s. So we wore jeans and long-sleeve t-shirt. Or a t-shirt and a light jacket. It was cooler in the evening. So we wore sweatshirts. It was cool but nothing we couldn't handle! Its sure beats 15 above zero which it is right now in OHIO!

Thank you for that goofy. I figured there was no way to find out what the temp WAS in Dec so I could figure out if when I go this week is going to be colder or the same as when we were there last time. We went 24th-2nd and it was warm enough for shortsleeved shirts for me, DH and older two (but we always had thin longsleeves on my youngest who tends to get runny noses at the first sign of cooler weather) and had jackets with us in case the wind picked up because when it did- that is when it felt slightly cool.
Keep in mind we are from Texas though... so we're used to HOT, not cold.
So now looking at that forecase I wasn't sure if I'd be freezing to death or not. I think I'll be okay with what I packed -which was some shortsleeved shirts, all pants with one pair of shorts that I doubt very seriously I will ever put on.. but you know... just in case LOL and sweatshirts and sweaters. I have jackets that are VERY warm... so here even when it gets down to 40 in the evenings or 20-30 in the late night I can just throw that jacket on over shortsleeved shirt and I'm fine when outside.

but now you have me worried about gloves! I don't own gloves and never buy them. Our winters are so shortlived, I just don't stay outside for extended periods of time when it's cold so my hands never get that cold. But now I'm concerned..... wondering if I need to make a stop to the store and HOPE to find gloves. They are already discounting what's left of winter clothes here and there isn't much left. Texas is not the place to find "winter" clothing/stuff like gloves/hats/etc for winter and I won't have a car to do so when I get to Orlando! *sigh*

I'll be the one with blue frostbitten hands if you're there- say hi. LOL

We were just there the 4th though the 13th of January and encountered everything from hats and gloves one morning, to Typhoon lagoon one afternoon (it was chilly in the shade but liveable for a few hours). What I found was that if you planned on being out all day and not back to the hotel was to get a locker, that way you can start out in a jacket, store it when it gets warm, and pick it up again for the evening. Also great was zip off pants for my DD8, he had the best of both worlds. For my DD5, she wore shorts with winter weight tights underneath, she has different ones with Cinderella, Pooh, etc and again, that way she could strip them off as the day warmed up. The weather forecast never seemed to be right while we were down so we just always tried to be ready for everything.

We were just there in the end of December and it was about that temperature and during the day a fleece or sweatshirt would keep you warm, but at night you definitely need a jacket. But since you are from a cold weather place, 65 should seem warm to you!

I just got back from a trip last week. Those were the temps I encountered. I wore shorts with a lightweight jacket. I was fine.

We were there mid December and the highs were in the 60's. We wore jeans and sweatshirts during the day, and my DD (7 months) had to wear a hat and a light weight snow suit. During the night we wore jackets and were still cold. I would have worn gloves if I had had them. We had to switch our dd to her heavy snow suit.

We are from Indiana so 60 degrees sounded great to me, but down in Florida it just seemed colden than it does at home.

I would just layer up, you can always tie a shirt or jacket around your waist. :)

When we were there in January a few years ago, we wore shorts with T-shirts and a sweatshirt in the morning. Yes, we were a bit chilly when we first got to the parks but it always warmed up during the day and we ended uptaking off our sweatshirts. At night we wore either jeans or sweats with the same T-shirt and sweatshirt. It was very chilly at night when the wind blow but we were only sitting outside continuously once to watch Illuminations. The rest of the time you are in and out of rides so often (especially during January when crowds are so thin) that it won't bother you.

I would suggest coming in layers but rent a locker so that you can get rid of sweatshirts, etc. if it warms up. I think that the average afternoon temperature when we were there was between 75 and 80.

But now I'm concerned..... wondering if I need to make a stop to the store and HOPE to find gloves

They were selling gloves and hats everywhere at WDW, so if you find you need them you should have no trouble finding them!

A couple years ago we went in Feb. I wore the convertible pants(the ones that will zip the legs off to shorts) and a long sleeve t shirt most of the time with a lightweight parka that folded up into it's own pocket for early entry mornings. We are heading down again Dec 2003 and I imagine that I will wear the same. As for gloves, if you have a Walgreens, they always have cheap stretch gloves for a couple of bucks or so.

To the OP, by looking at your countdown clock, starting Thursday it's supposed to be really cold here in FL. Make sure you pack some winter clothes. Thurs, Fri & Sat are only supposed to be in the 50's AM & Friday night it's only supposed to be in the high 20's! Good thing is it should keep all the locals away! <G>
Have fun, dress warm.

It's cold in Maryland right now...I know since I'm here. What my family has done in the past this time of the year is to wear shorts, t-shirt, and a sweatshirt in the morning. We would shed the sweatshirt by noon. We pushed a stroller so we had a place to put the layers, but I went with my sister last year this time and we each brought a backpack and put our sweatshirt in there. Or you can rent a locker to stuff things. My kids have also worn the zip-off pants and shed the bottom part when they warmed up and that worked very well. Of course we always checked the forcast and adjusted our clothes to the temperature.
