OK, I guess I will start the Waiting for OCT-DEC AP rate thread

asktriplets:

In response to your question about how early do you need to call...last year, I got on the phone at 7:20am (yikes...I woke up late for rate checking) and was on hold for 55 minutes for getting a CM! At least it paid off...we got a courtyard view at WL for $180 (inc tax).

If the rates for October come out after we have paid for the package can it be changed without any charges? We have to send in our payment on Sept. 4th but I am still waiting to see if it would be in our best interest to get PAP's for everyone ... it all seams to depend on the room rate.

We're in the same boat. Our (5+2) package has to be paid off by September 8 but I'd rather get a good room-only discount and buy passes separately.

My DD goes back to school today too .... 2nd Grade! We're in Westfield, IN.

Debbie

Debbie,
What a coincidence! My daughter started 2nd grade today, too. All I could think last night is that it won't be long before she's driving. Okay, I know I'm a little ahead of myself.
The school handbook was so harsh about missing days and unexcused absences that I'm a little concerned about her missing a week.
Hoping for discounts for October 30- November 7.:Pinkbounc

Our schools here in Danville are very harsh on unexcused absences too. My daughters are in 3ed and 6th this year. We have gone down to Disney the last few years ... always during the fall. The schools do not excuse for family vacation and they will not allow the student to make up the work for credit ... so they get zeros for everything that was done while you were gone. The first year on the new policy my oldest was in 4th grade ... we took two half days and two full days off just before fall break (1 day off and the weekend.) They granted us one travel day ... so for two half days and one full day missed my daughter went from A's to D's in four major subjects ... sad but true. We go but she suffers grade wise (as a former teacher I do not agree with this policy ... family time is very important and the student as a whole should be seen but in reality it all comes down to your body being in a seat each day.)
To really add insult to injury the first year they had the new policy they even told parents that if a child missed 3 days (half or full is the same) that they could give their name to social services ... I had to sign a legal document stating that I understood that the school had that right. I sure would like to see them try to do that though ... I have stayed at home for 12 years and given everything to my children and I do not think going on family vacations is wrong, but that is just my opinion.
Next year we will not be able to go to Disney in the off season .. the Bronte will be in Jr. High and the costs will be too high grade wise to risk it.

Hi Bronte -
I noticed you don't live to far away.
Hello from Fishers,
ADP :D

Bronte,
I hate to admit this, but I considered saying she was sick for a couple of days just so she won't have 5 days of unexcused absences. I just hate to lie though and don't want to teach my child to be dishonest. The student handbook also states that parents can be prosecuted
My father recommended just saying a couple of days beforehand that my daughter will be gone "due to a family situation" and hoping they don't question it. Our school's policy is that they allow 70% of the overall grade for missed homework due to unexcused absences.
I took her out last year in December for a week for our trip and the principal told me it was okay, but from now on to arrange trips during school breaks. Then a month after we get home, we get a letter regarding her having too many unexcused absences!!!! The principal told us okay and then counted them unexcused. After that, I decided as long as DD is doing so well in school and this young, I'll take her out for a trip again.
Okay, sorry for being off topic- so hoping for AP discounts!!!

I just got off the phone - last night I decided that I wanted to do a long week-end Oct 29-Nov 1st. I have never been there for Halloween- which happens to be my favorite holiday. I am from the "Witch city" so much pales in comparison to that. but I need out.
SO...I asked if they typicaly have dicounts that time of year. she said yes, they did last year. I asked when might they come out. She said well, ex: septs rates came out Aug 5th- so....
she said to check the first week of sept..........sorry so lengthey!

Just a note.... they can call Social Services or your local authorities for unexcused absenses. It's called truancy and parents can be prosecuted. (NOTE: I have no children and could care less if you take your kids out of school so don't shoot the messanger.)

By the way, thanks for posting daily. I just extended my Dec vacation and may need a room!

Gosh, some schools are tough. We have taken our kids out of school three times for in the last few years for a week each time. The teachers are very kind about it. They happily agree that family time is important, and we have never, ever been given a hard time about doing so.

One thing, too. We have charter schools in Michigan and many home school. There are options other than the local school, so maybe that makes schools more accommodating. I have never heard of any threats against parents for taking their children out of school around here.

I just called to check on AP rates and the computers were down...hummmmm...

Are they gearing up for new AP rates to come out???:) :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Some wishful thinking perhaps....

I was just going to post something very similar!! I had an error in my group dining and I received something about it in the mail. Anyway she said she will be there until 11pm and would call me when it is fixed but can't do it right now because their systems are down or are doing something crazy

Could it be :Pinkbounc Could it be?????":teeth:

I sure hope so!!!! :hyper:

Thanks to everyone who is calling everday! The waiting is driving me nuts! :hyper:
My patience is running very low!!!! We need October rates NOW!

Still waiting for AP Rates!!

Just a note on the school thing!! Wow. That's really strict. The teachers in NJ don't exactly like when you take them out of school for vacation and I have to take my kids out 2 days so I will be calling on my cell phone on Fri. and Mon. and calling them out sick!!;) Who are they to talk anyway, last time they didn't get a contract half of them went to jail!!

Thanks for checking-I have to call later today to check on other things, so I'll ask again this afternoon....hey, ya never know!:)

As for the whole taking the kids out of school thing-I come from a family with stong ties to education, and I'm still taking my girls out of school for a total of 6 days. School is very important, but...I believe that family time extremely important, AND any trip can be highly educational. Consider EPCOT and Animal Kingdom-children (and adults) can learn sooo much.

We live in Canada and schools might be a bit different, but we have asked the teachers in the past for what area's are being covered and we worked them into Disney activities. EPCOT is great for this. Countries, technology, and exploration. Add in biology, science and sociology at Animal Kingdon and your there.

The kids make a diary of what they did and share it with the teacher when they get back (along with a post card). My kids are in grades 2 and SK so no big deal for school.

Mike
