Ok. Here are the facts.

Am current BCV member.:)

Big family get together May '05. :bounce:

Thru banking/borrowing/begging/stealing still need 224 BCV points.:(

Initially wanted to transfer points from a wonderful DVCer to me.;)

Family has given me money to cover the $2240 to transfer.

Want the points end of Jun '04 to be able make 11 month ressies.:smooth:

Found someone that thought would do it. Fell thru. Bummed about it. :(

Put post on rent/trade board. Some views, no bites.:(

Started thinking that with $2240 could buy points::yes::

No BCV April use years available for 130 points (arrived at this
number of points for a variety of reasons) via resale.

BCV add-ons thru DVC not in waitlist anymore. According to
guide, (she is great by the way Betty Prikryl) have to go thru
paperwork and put down at least $500.
Other details not sure about.

Money situation with DH and I not clear right now. Not sure that
it is a good idea anyway to buy (it would be $10,000+) at $84/point :(

But can't ignore the giving someone else $2240 when could
use towards points.:(

Also, not entirely comfortable with the whole transferring :(

So am I being to impatient with the transfer, will it happen by Jun'04?

Should we get our name in to try to buy points?

What would you do?

Thanks for any insight!

Karen

Love ya' all!::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Whew! Not sure I followed all of that, but I would say purchasing an additional 130 points is a lot more than renting 240. Only you know if you can swing it financially. If you have all your other DVC points paid for, I would probably consider buying, but if you are making payments on your original contract yet, I would probably say rent, don't buy.

Thanks for trying!!!

Our other points are completely paid for.

Just wonder the likelihood of getting 224 points by June.
I think I am being very impatient.

And would it be better to put that money toward more points
(which of course we would use).

Really just don't like the uncertainty of either option.

Karen

Since your other points are paid for, and you think you could use additional points, I would go for buying. You are getting close though, if you are looking for a resale that would close before your 11 month booking window. Good luck!

One thing you might consider.... If you can't find a resale at your home resort with the same use year, how about the additional points at a different resort? You could still make the ressie at the 11 month window, and then could try to change it at 7 months.

I don't think you will have problems getting rooms for May at less than 11 months, you would probably have time before the 7 month mark to make the booking. It would probably be easier to find a member to rent points and make part of the reservation for you rather than transferring points. It would also probably be easier when you get closer to June to find someone to rent or transfer points.

I have to agree with DebbieB. May isn't exactly peak season.

You didn't say what sort of rooms or dates are involved, so it's hard to comment from that perspective. But if there are any high-point weekends involved in the trip, I don' think you will have ANY problem booking those days on less than 7 months notice.

Overall, I can't see May giving you any problems. We booked at studio at BCV for a few days on 6 mos notice. No problem. We later changed some travel dates just 4 months before the trip. Still had the BCV room.

By the way, DebbieB, are you saying that members are more
comfortable with renting points than transferring?

I rented 250 points back in jan. for our family reunoin from three wonderful dvc members, i needed the points to be VWL, for our 3 first night stays and then i did what you did, i had points from 2003 plus all of our 2004 and all of our 2005 points to make ressies at the bcv . start early renting so you have the transfers in your account for the 11 month booking and then you dont have to worry about getting the first call in at the 7 month booking.

it took 3 members to help and all 3 transactions were done in 3 days, i sent the money orders right away and 3 days before ms closed i called and had all my points.

good luck and if you have any questions just post,

just make sure the points are good for your stay that they dont expire before and as long as you didnt transfer points out this use year you can transfer in as many times as you need, good luck
:sunny:

i think the difficulty in finding someone to transfer points to you is that most members would rather bank their points than rent them. so when there comes a time when they have leftover banked points for rent, they can't transfer banked points.

IMO, i would rather wait, and see if i could find someone to transfer points. just be patient, i'm sure you will find someone to help you out. you could even get the points from more than one member if necessary.

if you're concerned about getting scammed... you could always try using an escrow service. or you could do a little at a time to kind of lower the risk... (you pay them $500, they transfer 50 points, then you pay another $500, they transfer another 50, etc). plus, getting references is important in this scenario since for transfers, you usually give the other member the money up front.

good luck!

There are restrictions on transferring. For example, if a member transfers points out, they can no longer accept transfers in during that use year. If you would accept a transfer in, you could not transfer out for the rest of that use year if your plans would change. You have to watch the use years involved. On the other hand, transferring takes the risk out of the transaction. Once the transfer is done, it can't be reversed or cancelled. I just meant that if you wait until closer to when you need them you might find members who are more flexible with either option.

dont wait ! from experience, start before the 11 month, like 12 months out searching or members to rent for , post on the rent/trade board, there are members that rent all the time. i would look to have the member transfer the points, it will be harder but that is why you will start looking 12 months out.
this way you have control over the ressies and this way if you have to change something you can, not have track down the rentee to make the change.

there was just a post about 1000 points to be rented.
and usually if the rentee has a large amount of points to rent they just want to rent in large amounts.

if you need help please pm me and i can help you get on track and walk you thru renting.

You will all be very glad to know that I have found a WONDERFUL
DVCer here that wants to transfer me her points. I don't want
to list her name unless she says it is okay.

All I can say is this board is great!

I also told her we are going to try to do both! Transfer from
her. Then start the process to get BCV points. I think that it
will take a LONG time to get the 130 April Use year add on.

:earsgirl:

Thanks VERY much for the information about the transferring.
I had read all of the posts about transferring, but it hadn't sunk in......
