But I got over $200 bucks that he does not know about!! He won't know it either, that will be MY pocket money and I will save it only for emergencies, safe and sound in my checking account!! Now laugh honey!!

Let him make fun of you! Over the past year I have been saving all of my family's change (they never clean out their pockets LOL) and I have saved up over $600:earseek: :earseek: That was enough to pay for our ASmo ressie!

We have been doing the same and have over 1000 dollars...

My fiance said "why roll the pennies, it will take too much time."

Well I did one night watching TV and I had $31.50 in Pennies and that paid for one night at our hotel...

Let all of them laugh and we will keep the dough:jester:

My son and I do this between every trip! The smallest amount I've saved between trip is $50! And we go two to three times a year!

Next week we're going on a short trip to Pigeon Forge. My son asked me if we're going to use the "trip money"? I told him that's ONLY for Orlando!

Let him laugh! It works~!

Let him laugh!! Thats great!!
We are also saving our money! The last bunch I rolled we had $130!!

My DH laughs at me to,but in the end I know, that I will have the last laugh!:D I Love to save my change for disney!:D :D :D

Great post, I too save all my change and have saved almost 700.00, But I take all
my coupon money from grocery shopping, even if it's only 2.00
and write my self a check in the grocery store for how ever amount I have
saved that day, Today it was a good day I did 12.00 in coupons ,So there is a
check for me for 12.00 waiting to go to the bank next friday, and how much
have you save they asked,,Since December I have 1,700 saved for
my cruise..I sure Love me..

After reading about change here I fixed up an empty 2 pound mixed nuts can and put blank white paper around it and then my DD & DS decorated it with lots & lots of Disney stickers and then we proceeded to search the whole house for spare change, including my vehicle and DH's truck and came up with almost 40.00 in change just for starters for our Oct. '01 & Dec. '01 trips. It will be the kid's "play" money and we will split in two in October and they can divide then we can add to it some more for December trip! We sure don't find too many stray nickels, dimes & quarters laying around on dressers or counters anymore ;)

that's exactly my point qwackertoo, we always have change laying around doing nothing , so this time I started saving it, I'm still doing it to the last day and I have @ $30 more to add now. I will keep doing this after the trip too, this is money we don't miss and that it really adds up!

We have over $300 for our September trip in our jar! Whenever we write a check, I always write a little over, and add the money to the jar.

I'm also implementing a "new" system with our kids, DD-7 & DS-4, after hearing some of the tips during our pastor's sermon 2 weeks ago after they offered the Financial Peace University to church members (which I didn't go to). I will be changing our kid's allowance to a commission. We've (make that I've) tried and tried getting them to keep their room clean, etc. etc. and they earn 7 & 4 dollars per week respectively based on their age. WELL . . . . now I'm going to come up with a list of daily responsibilities, making bed, brushing teeth & hair, keeping bathroom counter & mirror & sink clean, helping gather waste baskets on trash day, etc. etc. and making values for each task for each day and at the end of the week based upon their performance they will either EARN their "commission" or the won't based upon actual completed tasks tallied up, which will still be 7 & 4 dollars IF all tasks are completed each and every day, less if they miss a few, extra IF they do extra chores. Hey, it might not work, but I figure IF I don't try then I'm the one that has to clean their messy rooms for the next 15~ years! I am also hoping a little competition between the two, especially the competitive nature of DD-7 will encourage them to complete tasks and earn more than the other child! Of course any money they earn they will need to save some (Disney or other more expensive ticket items they want) or they can spend some along the way.

I'm with you . I save the change and it adds up very quickly. Anytime I have a little "extra" money, I pop in the Disney store to browse and buy some "Disney Dollars" for our trip in Jan. 2002. Its my little secret and no one in my family knows about it. I plan to surpprise eveyone at Christmas with the Disney Dollars, and special gifts , like a spa treatment, or Sunrise Safari and special dinner reservations etc.

I guess husbands just don't get the change thing, because my DH laughs about it too. I keep mine in a storage jar shaped like Epcot that we got on our last trip.

this is a great way to save money! we just counted my BF's jar last night, he's been saving since the last trip and now has just about enough for his "food money" for our Sept. trip! i try and try to save change in my own jar, but always wind up using it for laundry, etc. :/

I have been saving change for just over a month and I already have over 40.00 just in quarters for our August trip. I haven't even counted the dimes and nickles yet. Dh, who was unsure about this idea, has become quite the convert since I counted the quarters the other night LOL

My husband and I have also been doing this, I do have a question for you. We have been putting change in a water cooler bottle, and at last count we had $600, but it takes soooo long to count!! Does anyone have any ideas for a quicker way to count up the money?? Do those electric change counter things work?? Thanks all!

I wouldn't trust the counting machines, or at least not leave it for them to count. My sister left her change at the credit union in Fort Worth and upon her return they told her it was 15.00 or so, she KNEW it was more than that and somehow requested/demanded they recount, which they had already put in cash drawers, so they had to "count down" all the drawers and balance and it wound up being over 130.00 - huge difference. I can't imagine them making that big of a mistake so I will be rolling our own :)

After returning in June from our trip, DD & I can't wait to go back. A week later we started a Disney savings plan.... Coffee cans marked "Pennies for Pluto" and "Money for Mickey." We also combed the house for change.

I thought this xtra change might be too tempting for DH to get pop change for himself for work so I took electrical tape and put it around the lid of the jar. :D
Now I'll know if he's been dipping into my "Silver for Cinderella' :smooth:

Unfortunately, we won't get to go back until Summer of 03', but I bet we'll have a lot saved by then.

Kristi

We also save our change ... in a mason jar. We've been doing this for years and we know that a jar holds about $100. We always have the coins counted at our Credit Union while we wait. Rolling coins is just too much of a pain in the butt and the banks themselves use the coin counters for their own operations. I think Qwackeroo's sister's problem was a fluke. It's a good thing she caught the mistake!
