Ohio Train Derailment

I heard about it on my local NPR affiliate during one of the rare times I'm in the car, and my ears perked up because my MIL lives near there. But I brushed off because these happen fairly often and seem to usually be cleaned up with minimal ado. I didn't realize what a comparatively huge deal this was until I saw some people linking to things on Reddit.

I totally agree. Twitter is really giving this some traction and is where I first heard about it. It is devastating to the the immediate area and could negatively affect 4 or 5 states. It is being downplayed severely!

Yes, some on TikTok are very angry and trying to get the word out of how bad it is. Some are even saying that current events in the news are being used to distract the public. I don't know why they are trying to keep it secret.

Nobody is keeping anything secret. My gosh. Some lawmakers are already finger pointing and trying to blame the wrong person for this whole disaster, as usual.

I think it's naive to think that corporate media, owned by some of the richest people in the world, doesn't actively downplay stories that are bad for business interests. Many people are distrustful of "mainstream media" but don't seem to remember or understand WHY they aren't trustworthy.

I asked some people about it at work and nobody had heard of it. I spend a lot of time on alternative news sites so I read about a lot of things that never hit the mainstream media. I find most people don’t know what’s going on in the world unless it’s really thrown in their face.

Pretty pathetic when people in other countries know more about what's going on in yours than you do. What a bunch of nitwits you must work with.

Many people are distrustful of "mainstream media"...................

The people what always rant about how 'distrustful' mainstream media is seem to be the ones who don't like hearing anything that doesn't agree with their point of view. I don't consider any social media site to be a news media organization 'mainstream' or otherswise.

The main stream media suppresses a lot, fabricates a lot, lies a lot, and directs the narrative to fit an agenda. If that is the only place you get the news then you wouldn’t know that. It always boggles my mind that people can’t see that. How many conspiracy’s end up being true years later yet people still can’t remember why they don’t trust the media.

I’ve been hearing about this train since it happened. I’m in a state not too far away so maybe that’s why?

I've heard more about this in the last few days than I did when it happened. It has definitely picked up steam.

I heard about this story the day it happened on "mainstream media". And ever since, it's ALSO been covered extensively on "mainstream media."

Which mainstream media? What is your definition of extensive?

I don't have an issue so much with the media as I do the sources feeding the media. I can't really blame people for skepticism that we aren't getting the whole story when you have prior things like Flint.

That said, I don't believe most conspiracy theories because it would require way too many people to participate in the lies; everyday people whose families live in those areas, drink the water, breathe the air, etc.
