I have been making extra money on ebay for years. In the last 9 months nothing has been selling. It's also the time that I need it the most!

I am moving and selling off a lot of extra stuff before I move.

Barbies.....no sales

I listed a rubber stamp collection worth over 30,000 for 6,000 and I didn't get a single bid. It was 4,300 wood rubber stamps.

My Quickutz.....hardly anything is moving.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Is that $6,000 ?? Sorry, I know nothing about the rubber stamp world :)

However, in this economy, worth it or not, bargain or not, that is a huge chunk of change to come up with.

My friend sells on ebay and has the best luck breaking them down into smaller lots. So say, you could put up 43 lots of 100 stamps each for $xxx each.

I know there might be more fees involved, but if you even sold some of the lots not all, that is better than no money coming in?

Just a thought! Good luck!

Also maybe look into setting up a table at craft fairs around you? The people who frequent them are sure to be into doing some things themselves and you could maybe even sell them individually.

I agree w/ pp that you should try to break down the stamps into more "manageable" sized/priced lots. I've been selling on ebay for over 10 yrs and have noticed a big diff in selling prices during our lovely ...ummm...economic downturn ;)

I just tried to sell some stamps for a friend and had only 3 bites. I had over 20+ sets up and only 3 sold :( Sad day....there was a time they would've sold instantly and for more than what I was asking.

I agree that you need to break it into smaller groups. Maybe sort them by holidays/occasions/animals, etc.

or maybe call a local scrapbooking /crafting place and see if they will let you put up a sign, or let you put out a table and give them commission.
Maybe even look around online for people who are handmaking cards with stamps, maybe they would be interested

I have had great luck selling special individual rubber stamps or lots of like items. I think most that look to Ebay are looking for a few items not one HUGE lot.

I love to do stamping :) In a million years, I would never have $6 grand sitting around for something like rubber stamps.

I am at the point where I do not buy stamps for the sake of buying stamps, I will only buy something I have a specific need for.

Now - when I do buy stamps, I usually buy the clear ones. I hardly ever buy the wood-mounted ones.

My advice - separate them into lots, and separate them by brand. If the stamp brand is not known, I would never buy it off of ebay. Yes...there is a huge quality difference in stamp brands.

I was going to suggest this very thing. Your stamps might be worth the price of a car, but not many people are going to be willing to pay $6000 at one time for those stamps. Also, not many people CAN pay $6000 for stamps.

I like the idea of breaking them down into $20 groups. People are willing to pay that much on ebay.

I agree with the previous posters.

$6,000 worth the stamps just sounds like a mess. I wouldn't in a million years buy that. Even if I were opening a crafting business.

Put them in themed lots of 10-12 stamps and by sure to list the brands. I think it's fine to put more than one brand in a lot but as a prior poster said all the stamps should be a known brand. And you'll need good pictures.

Even doing all the above I think you'll be lucky to sell a quarter of them. They aren't as popular as they were. So many people prefer the clear stamps or unmounted ones now.

On top of it being alot of money, that is a ton of stamps to own. I don't know where the heck I'd keep 4300 stamps let alone spend 6K on them. I would definitely be interested in buying lots of 20 stamps though. I agree with the pp's that you would probably get alot more interest in a bunch of lots than one huge expensive one.
Also have you tried your luck on craft forums?

Wooo Hooo....they sold.

A Woman contacted me and offered to buy them for my asking price if I can hold them until July and she will pick them up herself. She is going to pay me Friday. She missed the auction deadline.

I had listed it on Craigslist and got so many offers that I decided to go the ebay route so I disagree that there are people that would not spend that money. When I had it on Craigslist I got 3 solid offers for them so that was when I went the ebay route and I raised the price 1,000.

We are paying off bills and this will be a nice chunk, by July we should be debt free except for one car payment and the mortgage.

WOW! That's a lot of $$ for stamps, but I guess to someone who is into it it's a deal. Congrats on the sale!

It was a 20 year collection and stamps are expensive. It was an incredible deal for the right person.

I didn't want to break it up for a lot of reasons but the main one was time. I am moving in a few months and I have A LOT to ebay and if I did it in smaller lots I was going to get overwhelmed.

My goal is to get rid of half of my stuff. I want to move into a smaller house and have less junk.

:woohoo: congrats, now don't lose any of the pieces packing and moving:eek:.

Honestly, I don't use EBay for purchases as much as I've done in the past. Don't know why, but I'm thinking it's because I don't need it. Sorry...

Wow! That's a lot of stamps!! Glad you were able to sell them!

In the big picture though, ebay isn't what it used to be -- between seller's fees and paypal fees it's not as easy to make a big profit.

Congrats on the selling power.

I'm starting to list everything I have now and hopefully give us a couple hundred dollars in spending money... cross your fingers!!!

ITA! I was seriously thinking about downgrading my snowglobe collection, and the prices they are now...:sad2:
I hate that I am finally at a point in my life that I am WILLING to get rid of some of the clutter, but have nowhere for it to go!

Good for you!:cheer2: I was selling stuff last year, and really need to start back up again. It's funny how when we are low on $ I find the time to list and get stuff sold. However, when we are doing well money-wise, I drop the ball. I should keep doing it regardless and stashing it away for our trip...

Congrats!!

Is she paying via paypal? If so, make sure you understand their rules regarding the shipping of them.
