Can't decide which one to try for our next trip. Ohana's looks nicer and the idea of maybe being able to time it to see the fireworks is something that I like but the menu doesn't seem quite as good as Kona. We will be doing the dining plan...just can't decide. Any opinions as to which is better and why? Thanks!

We loved Ohana. There were 12 of us. Kids, four teens and two 5 year olds had a blast. pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Check out the menus at www.allearsnet.com only you can decide what food fits your tastes... and if you arelooking for a firework view, then Ohana wins hands down - but if you are looking for taste and flavor, my money goes to Kona, that's just me, we ate at both, we ate at Ohana before and after the menu change, I was disappointed in the new menu and attitude on the night we were there (again, it was only our experience on one night!!) I love shrimp, and chicken wings - I love the teryaki beef at Kona - we do the dining plan so for us, Kona is winning!!

Kona has better food, Ohana has better atmosphere. Actually, Kona has no atmosphere. It's literally a hotel lobby restaurant with nothing much to look at. But the food is good and service was good for us. Ohana is more than just a hotel restaurant and has great atmosphere, fun activities, and the view.

But if you're going for food, Ohana changed their menu is not the same anymore, plus there have been lots of complaints regarding service there. While Kona rarely has bad reviews for food or service.

Depends on what you're looking for!

I'd go to 'Ohana if I was going to be really hungry since it's an all you can eat place. I love the bread, sticky wings and the shrimp! However, I find the atmosphere can be noisy and somewhat chaotic at times because of the coconut races and the hoola-hoop games.

Kona on the other hand more relaxed and quiet. If you finish dinner early, you can always watch the fireworks from the beach. Make sure you save room for dessert (my favourite is the Koko Puffs) and a pot of Kona coffee :)

Definately Ohana's the food is great plus the atmosphere. Kona is just a plain no excitement kind of restaurant . Food is good, I do love the macadamia crusted mahi mahi there but I prefer Ohana's for the overall vacation experience from food, games, and music.

Hope that helps
Kathy

'Ohana is our favorite restaurant and we try to go there often. We definately like it better than Kona. The kids love the games and it keeps them entertained throughout the meal. The new bread pudding is excellent. :goodvibes

Do you have kids? I haven't been to Ohanas, but it was very loud and crowded the night we were eating at Kona next door. Our meal at Kona Cafe(myself and DS 16 years old) was the best we had all vacation. I had the mahi mahi and my son had the steak terryaki. 6 months later he is still talking about how good it was. My husband and I will be eating at Kona for our anniversary this August.

Ohanas looks like fun, and the food sounds good. I run a day care, so when I'm on vacation, this isn't the atmosphere I want to eat in!

My choice would be Kona anyday.

Have done Ohana twice it OK if your a meat lover, which I'm not. I also find the meat to be on the dry side. I know there are people who love Ohana's and return every trip. It's always packed, and there's always a wait.

I would definitly choose 'Ohanas anyday over The Kona Cafe.

Don't get me wrong - Kona is great!!!

We love everything about 'Ohanas!!! Plus, they have activities for the kids that my girls love. They have the kids do hullahops and coconut races. Even if you wouldn't have kids, this would be fun to watch.

Thanks everyone for the replies...it looks like Ohana's it will be as we will have our 2 granddaughters with us and it sounds like it would be a lot more fun for them! One more question....if we want to see the fireworks from our table how do you time it? If you know what time the fireworks are do you make your reservation for an hour before or earlier? Thanks again!

I would make it a couple of hours before the fireworks. When you check in ask for a window table and be aware that you might have to wait a little longer because of that. You shouldn't have any problem getting one by that time.

Thanks for the info....I don't mind if we have to wait a little longer if we can get a window table. It would certainly be worth it! Thanks again!
