O'Hana's EWWWWWWWW

We tried 'Ohana last August and weren't wowed, despite the good reviews. We however LOVED Tony's which gets horrible reviews - go figure! It's all about personal preference and how the restaurant is on the night, I guess.

We probably wouldn't go back to 'Ohana for dinner, but we're trying breakfast this August :)

We LOVED Kona Cafe though, so that might be worth a visit next time? We're doing dinner and breakfast there this time :)

While I never had an outright horrible experience, I'm definitely in no hurry to go back there either. We've been there three times-first time was good, second and third times were passable. The food seemed to go downhill a bit more each time and the experience also hinges on a good server, which also seemed to go downhill each time for us. For us it just wasn't all that.

Ok I know alot of you love this place but OMG it was horrible!!! The salad and dessert were the best things on the menu. The waiter serving the next table asked if we wanted some steak so we all said yes. Let me just say gross, this meat was so red and fatty and I am not lying. I wouldn't have served this to my worst enemy, it could have been used for bait for crabbing :sad2: . When our waitress finally came back to our table we asked to have some steak well done which she did. The shrimp was in the shell and not even cleaned so you had to peel it and clean it no thanks. The entertainer lady I think she was drunk (seriously), I was embarrassed for her :rolleyes1 Sorry but I definately won't be going back.

YAY! More ADR's for me!

Say it isnt so! Are the sticky wings still there? Ive been three times and we loved it! We are going in Sept and looking forward to it..Of course Im in love with hawaii anyway:goodvibes

First, I wish we could all stop making it into an Irish Pub. It is 'Ohana not O'Hana like O'Leary ... ok??? ... just my personal attempt to get people to recognize the name. (OK - I used to make it into an Irish Pub too but someone else let me know!!!)

... anyway ... the peel and eat shrimp that 'Ohana used to serve in a bowl has now been moved back to a "skewer" item. The potatoes are gone and noodles are in. I will miss those!

I do have a question though -- are the skewer shrimp just like big peel and eat shrimp - is that what you mean by the shell? Or is there something I am missing, understanding that some people don't like messing with peel and eat - I was just curious!

Every restaurant has good and bad reviews. We do tend to hear more negative or read them more closely than the "my meal was yummy" reviews. You really have to try and then decide if you like the restaurant or not -- and the truth is, sometimes you won't -- and the good news is there are other ones to try!

PS: Sticky wings are still in!

Shame that you had such a bad experience.

Ok it looks as though we are the only people to ever feel this way about O'hanas? There were 5 people in our group and we all thought it was horrible, I guess it was just an off night for us :confused3
We also ate at:
Califonia Grill - Loved it
Whispering Canyon - Not Good
Hoop dee doo - Loved It
Liberty Tree Tavern - Loved It
Teppan Edo - Loved it
So thankfully we did have some really good meals :)

In all fairness, all restaurants have an off night and maybe you hit one. We eat at Ohana several times a year because we stay at the Poly for 2-7 nights before we checkin to our BWV accomodations. Last year our first visit to Ohana we all found the food at Ohana to be bad to mediocare depending on which member of our family you spoke to. Our trip in April, we all listed it as one of our favorites. You may have just hit it on a bad night. Don't mark it off your list if it was your first time there.

The shrimp are in the shell and not cleaned, they are I'd say large not huge. Oh they seem to bring the steak and shrimp last, my guess is that they hope you won't eat much of those ;)

I know every restaurant has good/bad reviews, good/bad nights I am just telling you about our experience. All 5 of us did not like it and sorry but probably won't go back. No biggie, as someone mentioned that just means more ADR's for you. And one more thing someone thinks that because my user name is Louey that I am a man which I am not just the opposite :rotfl2:

Ahhh, the one thing I go for every time is the Lapu Lapu, food is always second:rotfl: For the PP's who asked: A Lapu Lapu is an oversized MaiTai served in a pineapple, TOPPED with 151. Be warned, there is a limit of 2. I tried to order my 3rd (hey, I'm using Disney transpo you know;) ) and they looked at me like I had three heads -- what can I say? I'm an experienced vacation drinker! Hum... wonder if I can get my third (or first) at the pool bar?

I have an ADR to O'hanas in Aug. Its my first trip to the "WORLD" and I am looking forward to it. I'm sorry your experience was less than stellar.:sad2: Maybe you might consider trying it one more time, just in case it really was an off night.
As for the op who is worried... I love reading the reviews but they in no way influence where I will eat because as are there many colors in the rainbow ...taste varies. Whose to know if I go and love it or hate it?I figure, why not try it? Won't know 'tll I try it myself, so my advice? Read these boards to get an idea but definitely give yourself a chance to decide for yourself if its good or bad. Thats just MHO.:)

We had the same experience with the food last year too  I hoped that it
had improved by now, oh well we will avoid it next time. Our entertainer was brilliant not at all drunk and had a very professional attitude towards all the guests. May be worth trying Kona Cafe instead in future:hug:

Ohana's is my daughter and son-in-law's fav place. We went for the first time in April. I had heard so much about the potatoes that I was disappointed they were not serving them anymore and I didn't care for the noodles. The dumplings and wings were good. Our steak was a little overdone - ask your CM for your steak cooked the way you like it. The turkey was absolutely fabulous and hubby and I loved the shrimp. Of course, we are from New Orleans and accustomed to pealing our own shrimp. They were quite tasty. And we loved the dessert. I plan to ask for the turkey and shrimp first our next visit in December. We also got to watch Wishes along with the sounds from the park b/c we had a late dinner and that was great.

I have to give it a thumbs up. Hope I'm not disappointed in December.

That would only work if you could actually find your server. Ours was MIA for 99% of the meal.

We also got to watch Wishes from the Poly beach. It was beautiful and relaxing and I highly recommend it!!! Our only problem was that we were STILL at the Poly for Wishes. Our ADR was at 6:45, and we barely finished in time to walk out to the beach before Wishes started at 10:00.

Wishes start at 10? we will be at ohanas at 7:00 and thought wishes started at 9 I am not sure, first time at WDW!!

Like every other restaurant at Disney World..."inconsistant". One day its the best; the next day its the worst. Mix that with people's expectations and you get some great experiences and some not so great.

Try it for yourself and take everyone's opinions with a grain of salt.

I have to agree with this :thumbsup2. I read many not-so-good reviews for the luau before we went in September, but we decided to give it a try for ourselves and form our own opinions. I'm so glad we did....we loved the show and thought the food was great :). If we had decided against it according to some reviews that weren't the best, we would have missed out on a great evening. I'm sorry the OP had a bad experience, but that is going to happen....not everyone is going to like the same things. So I say go for yourself and see what you think....if it's not any good, don't go back; but it is possible you could find it one of the best meals you've had ;). To the OP....we tried Ohana for the first time in September and loved it, but I'm sorry your experience was so horrible :sad2:. I'm glad you had many other great meals :goodvibes. As a pp mentioned, if you've never been to Kona Cafe, give that a try next time.......they have awesome prime rib and filet :cutie:.

I like Ohan's, but not totally nuts about it, like most people are. However, my wife and sister-in-law didn't care for the food.

We had the oppossite experience, everything was just so dry and well done, which is great for me, because I like m meat well done, but they thought it was too dry.

We did it twice and that was enough. I really do like the atmosphere there. It makes me feel like I'm at Disney.

Wishes start at 10? we will be at ohanas at 7:00 and thought wishes started at 9 I am not sure, first time at WDW!!
I think it depends on when you go. We were there in June. Spectromagic was at 9 and Wishes at 10, then another Spectromagic at 11. Did you check the calendar on the Disney site? I'd trust whatever it says. :goodvibes

Ok I know alot of you love this place but OMG it was horrible!!! Sorry but I definately won't be going back.

:confused3 ITA. I planned this restaurant for the most special night of my vaca last June. It was my best friends birthday, who had been living in Tampa, and was able to join us for the weekend in honor of her B-day :wizard: I had asked our server to give us a few mins between courses, but everything was still dumped on the table withing 5 mins of each other. (salad, chips, wings, shrimp, veg and potatoes) :sad2: The skewered meats were not good (dry, and barely warm when served. Maybe this is due to the fact that it was frigid in there?) I was hoping that the birthday girl would get leid, It didnt seem like too much to ask :sad2: This is one of the few times that I have ever sat down in a restaurant for dinner and was hard pressed to find something pleasant to eat (other than chips and salad) The potatoes went cold before we were served the luke-warm dry meats.) Thank god the food court was open late when I got back to the resort:sad1:
