Ohana

We will be back to Ohana's in 3 weeks and hopefully it will be as nice as it was last year. Sometimes I wonder whether going back to somplace to recapture the 'magic' is smart...I hope we're not disappointed!

Ohanas is wonderful! Definitely a favorite of ours. We have been there 4 times and it has become a must-do for us. We like to time it around Wishes if possible. We have eaten breakfast once and dinner 3 times. This is a good way to start or end your trip. Go hungry!! Get a PS also.

BTW, for those of you who have seen Wishes from the Poly beach, do they pipe the sound in like they do in the restaurant?

We have been three times. The first time the food was great. The second time I was pregnant and had a meat aversion, but DH really enjoyed it. We went in July and I thought the food was so-so. Loved the appertizers and the shrimp was good. The rest of the meat was ok.

DS always gets chicken nuggets which he says are good. He loves the games. He did the coconut races and the hula-hoop contest last time. Have seen the fireworks everytime we were there. Never had a front row seat, but the first time we were there a nice older couple asked DS if he wanted to come stand by their table so he could see better. Thought that was very sweet.

Love the pineapple and caramel, but I've also wandered over to Kona and gotten a dessert to go. They are to die for.

This will be my 2nd time there. It will be me, my ds 13 and my ds14. I have called the polly and spoke to the manager there. My 14yo is very picky and I was assured that he could order off the kids menue while the 13yo and I enjoy the regular menu. Last time, we did wait, but got a wonderful seat by the window. It was so pretty looking out at the castle. It is now a must do on my list!

We had dinner at Ohana this past Friday night and loved it!! The food was excellent, the service was great and my DS-10 liked participating in the games that were offered (especially the coconut races)!

Even though the cost of dinner is $24.99 for adults and $11.99 for kids (I think), we found this dinner to be one of the least expensive dinners we had at WDW last week! :earseek: So, by that standard, getting "all you care to eat" of good food with a fun atmosphere was definitely worth it!!

We've gone to 'Ohana's during our last 4-5 trips, and each time have commented that it was our best meal the entire trip (and we do Disney hotel/park meals every night on every trip). The food and experience are simply not to be found anywhere else on property. The appetizers (chicken wings, rice, salad, etc. (And what're those little fried things called? They're delicious!)) are a great start, and the shrimp and steak are just perfect every time (the turkey and pork I could do without, but that's my own bias, not because they aren't tasty). Our now 2-year-old daughter eats best there every time, too, because it's not so "different" that she doesn't care for it (she'll eat beef, turkey, salad, rice, and chicken wings), but it's not just chicken nuggets or mac 'n' cheese like you find at so many other places. Definitely try it...I think it's the minority who are greatly disappointed (perhaps rightly, but still, odds are in your favor...) Also, it's a nice atmosphere without feeling too "stuffy" to bring a toddler -- it feels like "a-little-bit-upscale-family," if you know what I mean.

My entire family was disappointed with Ohana's, and will not be returning. We love meat, and it was fairly tough and dry. Definitely not worth the money for us. But hey, a lot of people seem to like it....

Excellent food, great value and a fun atmosphere. You can see the fireworks but they are kind of far away. A must do for us too!

It took until the 10th WDW visit to get it on our radar, but we finally made it.

On the walk from our room to GCH, we were cold (Dec), weary, and about ready to say forget it. Despite PS, we had a long wait. Altogether a recipe for crankiness! The Blue Hawaiian at the bar, however, made it pass comfortably. Have you ever seen the pina colada machine malfunction in a very messy way? It causes a certain amount of excitement behind the bar.

Once at the table, we perked right up. Our table was next to the coconut race route and we could see the castle all lit up. Service was great - friendly, attentive, all that we could expect. It was just the 2 of us and we enjoyed watching everyone's kids.

The food was good and fresher than I anticipated. I mostly ate the side dishes because I couldn't stop! The amount of meat provided off evey skewer was nearly obscene! We both agreed that by Disney standards, it was a good value and entertaining.

DS(5 at the time) enjoyed the Coconut Races and Hula Hoops. The meats weren't too bad if you drowned them in the dipping sauces. Tip for the shrimp: they tend to over season them. You can ask your server to have the cooks grill a skewer without the seasonings. I liked it, DW not so much.

Having the dining plan, I think well try it. I like the idea of being able to see the castle and Wishes! What would be a good time to make our ps? TIA

We have only done the breakfast and we love it. This time around we will try it for dinner. I'm sure we won't be dissappointed.

Keep your eye on MK June hours on Disney's website. When they post them find out what time Wishes begins. Make your PS for about 1 hour before Wishes begins(call as soon as you know). That way if you still have a 30 min wait to be seated you will not miss anything. Also request at the podium for a window seat. They don't guarantee it but they will get you as close as possible.
We love Ohana's and everyone we've ever told to eat their has loved it too. Last week when my boyfriend asked me where I wanted to eat for Valentine's Day I said Ohana's (tongue in cheek). No, we weren't in Disney. But hey its only a 3 hour drive. My co-worker and I then got into what we like best there. Oooh the Lapu Lapu, no the backscratcher, oooh the turkey, the shrimp, oh no the wings are the best, omg the pineapple and the caramel. LOL you get the picture.

Dh and I went for dinner this past fall. While I definitely will go again, it's not my "must-do" list this spring. I really liked that the food and presentation is somewhat different from standard Disney fare. However, the quality was not at all consistent. Some parts of the meal were excellent (bread, pork, etc.) while others were not so good (seriously overcooked beef and shrimp -- with different servings). Still, the location and view are magical.

We haven't been for breakfast in several years, but it was excellent the last time we went. Our oldest LOVED it!

WE LOVE 'OHANA!

In fact we have 2 priority seating reservations for our upcomng trip! :) Dh loves it and our kids do, too! They are 10 and 7. We did not give them the ordering off the alternate kid's menu. They loved the grown up food!
