I was able to visit several of the popular restaurants on this trip. BOG Lunch, CRT Breakfast, Boma, Tusker House, Trail's End Thanksgiving Buffet and 'Ohana. I almost cancelled the 'Ohana reservation because of all the posts I have seen about their recent problems with poor service and dried out meats. I have read many tales recently of 15 minutes waits for a drink refill, being rushed, or being ignored and horrible food. In the end I read some good reviews and since I had never dined at 'Ohana before we gave it a try. I'm glad I didn't get scared off.

Service: Good, not excellent, but decent. Our server had an assistant that handled drinks, salad, clearing plates, and other small items while our main server brought the food and made sure we were taken care of. There were a couple of times we had to wait longer than I thought we should on some items (therefore good not excellent), but certainly not enough to make for a bad experience. Our drink glasses were never empty, we were not rushed, and we had ample opportunities to ask for more of any item we wanted. I don't know if it is just luck of the draw or if 'Ohana has worked on the reported service issues.

Food: Bread - yuck, Salad - Meh, Wings - blah. Noodles - good and nice with the meal but they are just noodles. Pot stickers - great, Shrimp and meats - very good. I like my beef medium to medium rare. I had one piece of beef (our of 4) that I would say was a bit dry and tough. It was a small piece so that may have been the problem. All of the rest of the beef and chicken was excellent. Juicy, flavorful, and properly seasoned and prepared. The shrimp was good as well. If I had just had that one small piece of beef my opinion would not have been the same. I try to keep my salt low for medical reasons and I thought the meat was well seasoned. Someone who still loves salt might find it bland and give a different review. My whole family thought it was pretty good.

Ambiance: There was a live singer working the crowd with Hawaiian style Christmas tunes, no other games or etc. We were far back in the room but did see the castle fireworks through the window which was really awesome.

Overall: It was good, don't be scared off by the recent bad reviews. Service and food were on par with other Disney restaurants. If you love 'Ohana or have never tried it then go ahead. However, my family just didn't get the big deal. Three out of four of us would rather just have the Trails End Buffet which is much less expensive. Boma and Tusker house were both considered better choices. To be honest - minus the fireworks - I would be every bit as happy with a $25/person Hibachi dinner. It is enjoyable and we might go again, but it wasn't our 'best meal ever at Disney' either. Your mileage will vary.

I was there for the first time a few days ago, and I had been nervous after reading the mixed reviews. Loved the salad, pot stickers, noodles, shrimp and bread pudding. Bread was just okay, chicken wings were so-so, chicken was served cold (but the flavor was good) and beef was rather tough. All in all, I'd go back for the salad and noodles alone, but it was a good experience for sure. 5:10 ADR so not much of a wait and we didn't feel rushed at all.

our neighbors just returned from Disney last night and i told them they had to go to Ohana...(because we loved it) they loved it and said they would definitely go back....we just made our new reservation for it in May...I am ready to go again...thanks for your reviews

So the menu still has salad? read that it was taken off and Lettuce Wraps took there place.

This did happen about a year ago and the chicken was taken off as well. Now the chicken and salad are back and the pork and lettuce wraps are gone.

The only time I have ever complained to a manager at WDW was at Ohana. Last October we got caught up in some kind of miscommunication and our server abandoned us in the middle of our meal. We got our appetizer.... then nothing. After 45 minutes I finally got angry enough to get up and go track down the manager. The place was a chaotic mess and did not appear to be very well run at all. Nobody ever bothered to check on us while we were just sitting there staring at each other over empty glasses. This whole mess caused us to miss MSEP and my wife was not happy.

Just to point out the inconsistencies with this place...we were there the same week (Thanksgiving). Have been before and it was good, this time, nope.
Got our bread, no drinks, then starting getting the beef sticks before the salad or apps. Finally the other items caught up but the meat was definitely tough and dry (even though it was med-rare) and the chicken like rubber.
The service was terrible. We never knew who our server was supposed to be since a different person came to our table each time. Drinks lagged, and as the PP said, the place was chaotic.
For the price they charge (especially with the holiday surcharge) this type of inconsistency is just unacceptable. I did speak with the manager on the way out.
The reviews run 50/50 and I will not be betting that kind of money again.

It seems that for every good review there is a bad one lately. Our experience in March was way below our previous trips so I am on the fence about our ADR for our trip this coming March. I think I am leaning towards cancelling and trying it again when it is more consistent. For a restaurant that serves the exact same meal to every diner to be so unreliable is ridiculous. How hard can it possibly be to get it right-every single time? There should be zero reports of improperly cooked or seasoned food.

The thing about Ohana is it is very inconsistent. It can be great, it can be awful. I've had terrible service and great service and the same with the food.

I just don't get how it can be so inconsistent. The food and service model are about as simple as it gets. Perhaps a table could get missed in shift change or a new cook could dry out the meats but that does not account for the large number of negative reviews. It should be consistent good or consistently bad.

What is going on here?

On an episode of the DisUnplugged, Kevin and John review Ohana and refer to it as a "mob scene". We laughed it off when we heard their review but in our experiences (4 times) that has absolutely been our experience. The food is fantastic and has been every time we have visited. We have had off-service once but our server was just not happy to be there in the least. This restaurant is packed to the gills every. single. night. So we are bound to all have different experiences, but yes it has been a "mob scene" every time we have been there haha. Glad you enjoyed your experience! :)

I also posted on a different thread....our experience was pretty bad. I was excited going into it cause the menu was really good. Until I actually tried the food, pretty bad! Slimy wings, dry potstickers, very dry meat, just awful. I wont be giving it a second chance...not for a very long time.

In the same boat as the PP above. Had a bad experience last Fall and not willing to risk it again. While my server was good, the food just wasn't good. Not worth it when there are so many other truly good and consistent restaurants at WDW.

our granddaughter and her husband were at Ohana the other night and had a window seat and watched the MK fireworks...they loved the food ..except my granddaughter likes her meat cooked..REALLY cooked...she got the rare...everything else was perfect...she even tried shrimp for the first time..she always said she didnt like it..My grandson in law loved the meat and the pot stickers and wings...he also said the flavoring of the shrimp was fantastic..so different likes on different nights..

Im glad you had a decent experience. with us, the wings were slimy, pot stickers dry, meat dry, pretty awful and NOT worth repeating anytime soon. I doubt i'll go back.

Just went on December 4 and it was good! Not as amazing as times in the past, but overall, good. I did notice that the chicken was a little fattier than I remembered and the steak I received was a little rarer than I like, but overall it was a good experience. I could make a meal out of the potstickers and wings alone.

Interestingly, I had an AMAZING dinner there in August and a HORRIBLE one in July of 2014 (the grills weren't working and all the meat was cooked on a flat top. MEH!)

That being said, I'm not sure I'll go out of my way to go there on my next trip. I feel like I've had my fill of 'Ohana for awhile.

I'm just curious, those of you who have had negative experiences, did the manager take care of it? We've been to Ohana 4 times, and all were great. We have two reservations (breakfast and dinner) for our next trip.

I remember being apprehensive about WCC two years ago because of all the negative reviews on Disboards....my husband encouraged me to keep the reservation and it was the best meal of our trip! Those of you reading, if you have never been to Ohana, it really is worth a try in my humble opinion.

We enjoy the breakfast there very much. It is dinner that has been very inconsistent. I have never said anything to the manager. I am not one to complain in restaurants unless something is REALLY atrocious.

My experience was dinner only & I just didn't care for any of the food except for dessert. The dessert was very good. :-)I had excellent service and a wonderful window table. I dined there November 2014. I found all the meat (beef, shrimp & at that time pork) to be either completely undercooked or chewy, leather-like overcooked. Everything was cold to lukewarm and every bite of the meat plus the noodles tasted the same mono-teriyaki flavour. I asked for the salad and it was just OK and also had the potstickers and they were meh. Little flavour. At the time, I thought it was my tastes that just didn't jive with most people. I'm not a fussy eater at all (I love Trails End buffet dinner & Biergarten and rarely eat at a Signature so nothing elite going on here). I would also add that the place was a wild, jam-packed zoo when I was there and so likely would have been difficult to track down a manager unless I wanted to wait. I believe my disappointment in Ohana was my food experience contrasted with the high praise dinner has received not just here on the Boards but on other online dining sites. I had high(ish) expectations. It remains one of the most hard to get dinner ressies. The best I can figure is that given the high praise for dinner, there must be a huge problem with consistency. If my problem was only with flavour (ie if the meat was served at a decent warm temp and allowing for some normal variance in undercooked/overcooked but I just didn't care for the taste) then I would chalk it up to my personal tastes. But I was served from multiple skewers from different wait staff over the course of an hr and a half so it looks like it was a restaurant wide problem the evening I dined. When I asked my server why my meat was cool and either undercooked or overcooked, she smiled, shrugged and just explained that was the nature of the dining experience. So for me, I will try other consistent dining experiences at WDW.
