Ohana menu change

Thanks for the news.

I hope the noodles are like the ones from Kona and Capt Cooks, those are really yummy. :goodvibes

Thanks BuffaloGal...

So happy to hear that the Bread Pudding stays!!!! That was my biggest worry. LOL My dh had already said he wouldn't eat there anymore if they took the bread pudding away...he will be so happy to hear this!!

DD will be thrilled, especially if the new menu goes into effect on Jan.1!

I really would like to know when this goes into effect. The original post said 2 weeks, which would be around the time we have ADRs (12/27). Hope it is for that date.....

Aloha all!
Here's the skinny on the menu change. I won't say who I am, but I will swear that I am a very reliable source.

Yes, the freight train of food is changing. Some of it is still a bit fuzzy.
1.) The salad stays :goodvibes
2.) Wonton Chips do not stay.
3.) There will be pork stuffed wontons, though last I heard, the prep method on them was still up in the air.
4.) Potatoes will be replaced by a dish with noodles. I haven't tried them personally, but have been told that they are awesome.
5.) Turkey, Beef, Pork on the skewers stay. Sausage goes. Shrimp (not tiger prawns, but large shrimp) will be added.
6.) Peanut sauce is incorporated somehow.
7.) Bread pudding stays!!!:cheer2:
8.) Pineapple and Caramel may be added as a charge item similar to how the "Beach Bomb" is handled.

Start date is fuzzy. Think January. Don't remember what I was told about the wings.

This is the happiest menu change I've heard about all year! Lately most of the menu changes have been for the worse, but this one sounds great. Thrilled to hear the salad and bread pudding are staying! Glad to hear the wonton chips are being replaced by stuffed wontons, and happy about sausage being replaced by shrimp too. Noodles sound promising as well. I hope this really all comes to pass. Ohana is our family's hands-down favorite restaurant, and it sounds as it if will remain so if you're right!:yay:

I remember being told by two different servers that they got rid of the shrimp wontons because of shellfish allergies. Since the food was brought out all together. It made sense to me. If they replace the chips with prok wontons they don't have to worry about that I guess.

Our family really liked the new potatoes and hated the rice. The noodle dish sounds pretty good though.

Really, really glad the bread pudding is staying!!! Love that.

The shrimp on the grill as opposed to in the sauce sounds less messy. Although, I still remember peeling the shrimp from the grill and it was fairly messy. Myself and maybe one son are the only shrimp eaters in my family anyway, so not a biggie.

We love the old menu. Haven't gone back since they changed it.

We haven't been since they went to the new menu's either. We went every trip prior to that. We used to LOVE O'hana but the shrimp (Skewered) was my favorite and was mostly all I ate for my entree. If they bring it back we will go back.

I kept wondering if you would post. Wish the potatoes would stay but I love my noodles too. We have a big group coming with us in Jan and I hope they enjoy the new menu change.

My husband will love the fact that the shrimp are on a skewer again.

THANKS again.

Not long ago I was criticized by some for continuing to loudly rail against 'Ohana and the "new" changes (droning on and on) and my answer is always that Disney does read these boards and often times good triumphs over evil (sorry to the few who liked the new menu better) and no, I don't really think anyone here is evil...:hippie:

I'm thrilled about the adding of the shrimp and the REAL wontons and the removal of the potatoes and the sausage and that the hugely popular bread pudding is staying (although personally I like the pineapple). I hope the wings stay and I'm sure the peanut sauce will remain as it was always there as a dipping sauce (I loved it with the pork)...

Anyway, I hope this is a rumor that actually comes to fruition...Now can we get Jiko to bring back the pork/duck firecracker appitizer???

BuffaloGal - Will they also go back to the three previous dipping sauces??? I loved the old green one - not the new green oily one.

I still love Ohana food, but I have really missed some of the old stuff.... I am thrilled to hear about the wontons and shrimp, and really the new bread pudding is great!!

Pork wontons would be great. Love to hear the bread pudding stays. If this comes to fruition, we'd go back.

The original 'Ohana wontons were shrimp wontons...My daughters favorite and I'd be thrilled to see an incarnation of the old menu return.
pirate:

Shrimp purses. I think this is what the "wontons" are typically called, but I might be wrong. Whatever the name, they were AWESOME and I hope they bring them back.

However, I am more than willing to try the pork :)

I have been back about 10 days (having trouble admitting the year of planning is actually over - sigh) but when we were there - spent time at the Poly Bar and the bartender also stated the menu at Ohana's was changing. He said they were doing lots of test tasting with the staff and said the little shrimp are absolutely out and the old won tons coming back. Did not mention the pineapple though. We were happy with what he told us, but then again = sitting there drinking a Zombie......I think you are pretty happy anhow. :rotfl:

I never ate at Ohana before the menu change, so if the menu does change I'll have to make a point of eating there next fall. I've never cared for the sausage there, so will be glad to see that gone. I will be sad to see the potatoes go, even though they weren't very Polynesian, and didn't seem to quite fit in with the rest of the food, they were very good.

We'll be there in a bit over 2 weeks..I can't remember the exact date, but it will be sometime between Jan 5th and Jan 11th. I'll post what we find, if nobody else has, the night we have dinner there.

There have been some changes, though I'm not sure the ones we saw are the permanent ones:

NO Wontons, at all. We got the coconut/pineapple bread. We got sauces (Peanut, Hasiri, and the "green" one I can never remember). But we didn't get wontons.

Still have the potatoes, still have the bread pudding dessert, still have the wings, and the stir fried veggies. Still have the turkey, pork, and steak.

But now there are BOTH the sweet and sour shrimp AND the grilled skewered shrimp.

that's the same exact offerings we had on Jan. 2, so maybe that's the new lineup. The grilled skewered shrimp were very tasty!
