Ohana menu change

:thumbsup2

This all sounds sooo good. We have our first ADR's there in March and can't wait to go and try all the delicious food and have fun. Thanks to the disboard.:yay: :yay: :yay:

Back? The bread pudding has been there for a couple of years.

I would like to know about the won tons because I am allergic to shrimp (I assume all shellfish) which already leaves out one item, hopefully the wontons aren't seafood also because then there's another course I can't have.

Well yeah, it was there in 05 but THEN THEY TOOK IT AWAY and reinstituted the fresh pineapple. That's why we weren't going to dine there this trip - I only really wanted the bread pudding!

Really? That'll be news to everyone here. They haven't had the pineapple dessert since they introduced the bread pudding. In fact, a lot of people have gotten upset multiple times because they heard the pineapple was coming back.

You mean to say that the pineapple was only THREATENED to be reinstated?????? It never came back at all?? I thought for sure that I had read that it had indeed come back.

I bow to your better information!! Yea!!!

I live for desserts...

Nope, 'ohana is a regular for us, at least once per year, in our trips since the bread pudding was started, there has been no pineapple. No problem for us as we often found it to be unripe and tasteless most times. Now, if they'd only bring back the PINEAPPLE BREAD!

You probably just read a rumor about the pineapple, they've never brought it back since they took it away initially.

Nope, stuffed with a meat like mixture, more like a tiny eggroll. Younger DDs favorites, she would eat bowl upon bowl of them if I'd let her. I'm keeping silent about the possibility of change because she has just come around to the "new" menu, tee hee! Still complains about how they "ruined her restaurant"! And she's all of 10!

The original 'Ohana wontons were shrimp wontons...My daughters favorite and I'd be thrilled to see an incarnation of the old menu return.

They've offered the bread pudding and ice cream for several years now. You CAN ask for pineapple and caramel and they will bring it to you. I know this for a fact since we do it several times a year.

It's a set menu, the rice was deleted when they brought in the potatoes, which sound weird but are very yummy, much better than the overcooked dry rice. Now, if they'd bring back the lo-mein from last millenium..............

yes, the original ones were shrimp wontons according to my memory. You really can't compare them to the "wontons" now, which are only fried wonton wrappers with no filling--pretty much just chips, and often seem stale. :sad2: Though the old ones are clearly a product made offsite that they just buy frozen, I think I like them better.

The old grilled shrimp were also peel and eat, as I recall. I liked them better, so am happy to hear they might be coming back. Less messy, and less dishes to contend with on the table!

The old rice dish was really good too, and I prefer it, though the potatoes are very yummy! They just seem pretty heavy to eat along with all the rest of the meal. (which is probably why they have these, keeps people from eating more expensive meats/shrimp, etc because they fill up faster on the rich potato dish)

I really wish they would get rid of that nasty sausage though. Yuck. I don't mind it being offered though, you certainly can't eat everything offered anyway, so I don't mind that there is one thing I don't eat when we are there.

Oh, and I love the bread pudding. It's really rich though, and the while the old pineapple was NEVER ripe enough, it was a nice ending to such a filling meal. Either way, I'm happy. I just wish they were more predictable as to the quality of the meat, and the cooking was more reliable as well. We love Ohana though, I have lost count of how many times we have eaten there. :cloud9:

I hope you are right...

We just got back on Thursday (12/13). Our server was Autumn. She was very sweet, by the way.

I asked her about the rumors of my beloved bread pudding, she confirmed that the bread pudding would be no more. The pineapple w/ caramel will be back. :scared1:

She did say tell me the same thing that you heard about the shrimp and wontons...I was happy to hear that was true. :woohoo:

Guess we will see...

I wish they would bring back the really old menu that had salmon on it :wizard:

That makes no sense. The bread pudding seems to be a favorite of just about everyone. As for the shrimp and wontons made with shrimp, as I stated previously, I cannot eat them. If they do make these changes, we will go elsewhere for our first evening dinner. My DH and I had decided after our trip in 05 that Ohana was our favorite meal because of the bread pudding (and the potatoes).

Aloha all!
Here's the skinny on the menu change. I won't say who I am, but I will swear that I am a very reliable source.

Yes, the freight train of food is changing. Some of it is still a bit fuzzy.
1.) The salad stays :goodvibes
2.) Wonton Chips do not stay.
3.) There will be pork stuffed wontons, though last I heard, the prep method on them was still up in the air.
4.) Potatoes will be replaced by a dish with noodles. I haven't tried them personally, but have been told that they are awesome.
5.) Turkey, Beef, Pork on the skewers stay. Sausage goes. Shrimp (not tiger prawns, but large shrimp) will be added.
6.) Peanut sauce is incorporated somehow.
7.) Bread pudding stays!!!:cheer2:
8.) Pineapple and Caramel may be added as a charge item similar to how the "Beach Bomb" is handled.

Start date is fuzzy. Think January. Don't remember what I was told about the wings.
