Ohana at the Poly

We ate at Ohana in 2007 and really disliked it - we will never go back. We are pretty middle of the road diners. We like Chinese buffets, we liked Prime Time Cafe, we loved Coral Reef, so it's not like we are really picky. Here were my quick review:

1) Seated quickly - this was the only good part of the service.

2) We received part of the appetizers - but had to ask repeatedly for the wings. Rarely saw our server.

3) Chips were way way too salty ( and I like potato chips ! ). Sent them back - but they were inedible.

4) Wings were greasy flabby and badly cooked. Sauce was yummy.

5) Salad was good ( whne it FINALLY arrived )

6) Shrimp were OK.

6) Potatoes were good.

7) Turkey was DRY - almost like jerky

8) Steak was good - but only came once - we had to hunt down server who attended constantly to table next to us.

9) Sausage was ghastly - full of gristle and odd bits.

10) Tenderloin was very smokey - but good.

11) Dessert was too rich after the meat - but it was yummy.

For the proce - we won't return. Iactually thought the food at Cap'n Cooks was beeter and fresher than Ohana.

Go back and try it....been awile. ;) Oh and greasy wings are what makes them good. :lmao:

They have awesome that noodles now too and also dumplings that rock. :thumbsup2

OP, if you're looking for a restaurant you can get in without reservations due to an undetermined arrival time, my suggestion would be Planet Hollywood in DTD.

I would convince your husband to give Ohana a try. It really is a meat and potatoes type of menu. If he doesn't want the noodles, he doesn't have to have them, but if he like chicken wings (what guy doesn't), steak, pork, sausage, etc. He'll love Ohana. My husband thinks its one of the most "man friendly" meals on property. Not to mention that there is a giant fire pit and the bring the meat around on long skewers. I think you guys would find that it is not that exotic or strange, and very much like typical cook out food.

Trust me, Ohana is very meat and taters....except the taters are noodles now.

We really like Ohana. We have had hit and miss service....but the food has always been very good.

The food quality is poor at 'Ohana. But, people love that it's all you can eat. We ate there once because it gets such raves on these boards. After that, swore it off forever. We both got terrible indigestion from whatever spice they put on the shrimp. The rest of the meat offerings were inedible.

And, I love the post that says ADR's are not technically necessary at WDW, but if you don't want to be turned away at the door, you'd better have one. Huh? Doesn't the fact that you'll be turned away at the door mean an ADR is necessary?
