I am so grossed out right now.

We keep our dog and cat food in the garage. Because we have the huge sized bags, I usually don't "pour" the food, I reach in for a handful and put it in the dish. Big Mistake.

Today, I reached into the cat food bag and took out some kibble. But, something feels "off"...soft...I look down and there in my hand is a dead mouse! A huge, moldy, squishy, green and black, half-decomposed MOUSE.

I dropped that thing so fast and I have officially washed my hand 12 times so far and I don't think I will eat for a week.

I am assuming the &^%@#% cat killed it and dropped it inside the bag :confused3 Anyone's cat do this?

From now on, I am going to staple the top of the dang bag shut in between uses, plus, I am going to either buy smaller bags that I can actually lift or else use some kind of proper scooping utensil from now on.

See ya! Going to vomit now!
:crazy2:

Gross!! :rotfl:
Cats leave them the strangest places.
But, it may have gotten in there to eat and not been able to get out.
We keep our pet food in plastic tubs .....with latches ::yes::

Oh forgot to add, before we got the plastic containers, everytime I had my car's air filter changes, it was always full of pet food

Ok, that is gross. We keep our dog food in the garage too and I've reached in to have mice climb my arm. I freaked out. I got a closable container to put the food in now with a scoop. I don't know what it is about mice. I love animals but can't stand that little things! A dead, moldy one is horrid. The smell makes me throw up thinking of it!

Ewwwwwww.

I am not sure I could eat with those hands ever again. Might be a good diet plan, though.

We get mice here at work every once in a while. Once we smelled a horrible smell on a Monday morning, and traced it to a tall plastic garbage can. The mouse jumped in, but then couldn't get out - and died in the can.

Another day I heard a scratching in my office. I looked in the can, and lo and behold, a little mouse was trying desparately to get out. I jumped on my chair and called for someone to come get the thing. He took it outside, but I am sure he made it back to the building before my friend did.

Wow....that is pretty gross! I think I would have chopped my hand off! Ewwe!!!

Maybe the cat killed it but wanted to have it for dinner later on, so kitty tossed future dinner in food bag! Cats are soooo dang smart, aren't they? :teeth:

I think Meriweather has a great idea about keeping food in plastic bins with latches!

We keep the pet food in plastic bins. Works great! Keeps the food fresher and mouse free.

PS - Just curious - who gets called in to dispose of the mouse carcus?

:crazy2: ACK!!!! I think I would have had a heart attack!!

I second keeping dog food in some kind of container. We use an old milk can...but then our dog food is kept in the kitchen (don't have a garage).

Ewww...I have to go wash my hands now....

That's looking on the bright side! :thumbsup2

:lmao:
That is gross, but so funny.... Mostly because it didn't happen to me....

We have a cat outside that "adopted" us. She is really pretty and friendly and so I fed her. Right. 6 months later, she's still here. She hunts everything, and she constantly leaves us "presents" of half eaten mice and birds on our doorstep. Thanks, Espresso, just what we needed.

Gross! In the past 2 weeks we've caught 6 mice in our house - 2 in the garage and 4 in the basement. I would love to have a cat to help us get rid of these pesky things. We keep our dog food in a metal garbage can with a lid on it in the garage.

I'm curious - what did you do with the food?? Is your cat going to eat mouse flavored kibbles? !!!!

I dropped the cat dish, the kibble and the mouse...my poor husband had to sort it out from there. LOL.

Eeeeeewwww! I feel for you!

Earlier I was downstairs picking up the family room. We have an 18 year old cat and two 7 month old kittens. Well, one of them left us a teeny, tiny dead DECAPITATED mouse right in the middle of the rug... I came back upstairs so I wouldn't find any more surprises. And I have also washed my hands many times...

That is so disgusting. But think how responsible your cat is! Putting the cat food into the cat food bag!! What a good kitty. ;)

Good question, I don't know. If it were me I'd burn the bag! (Heck, I'd want to burn the entire garage, not to mention my "mouse" hand) LOL. But knowing my husband, he won't want to waste any food.

Yummy... I'm gagging thinking about it....

Have you looked into those bins they sell at PetSmart for keeping food? My mom buys the bulk packages of the dog food and then just transfers it into them. She lives in Florida, so it's a necessity or the creepy crawlys would be having a block party.

I will definitely invest in the plastic containers.

And since the mouse seems to have been in there a long time (with the decomposing and all) I keep wondering how many times I have come close to picking it up before. Yuck. Or if my fingers may have actually brushed it while I was rooting around in there and I never knew it. Double yuck.

STOP! STOP!! STOP!!! I'm about to upchuck lunch! :faint:

Definitely need a new bag of food. I bet kitty was hoping that by storing him in there, he'd appear in his dish one night for din-din.
