Public schools are being cancelled for Friday as I type (preschool is still on so far ) Why??/ The wind chill forcast for the morning is 40 degrees BELOW zero!!!! Aparently you can get frost bite in 3mins........oh to be back on Castaway Cay...to think I complained about the chill in the air that day (it was only around 70 degrees...................)

It's during Winter that I'm glad I live in Texas.... egads, I would SO be holed up like a hermit if I lived where it was that cold!!!!! Geesh- we get down to 20 above with windchill and I think we're going to freeze to death. LOL

I can sympathize with you ... we're under that same Arctic air mass here in the Toronto area! Our windchill is also expected in the -40 range.

No mention of cancelling schools here though - I guess we're supposed to be used to it. When I was in Orlando last December, they referred to all the cold weather that we call an Arctic airmass as coming from Canada!

I just keep dreaming about the cruise and how wonderfully warm it's going to be!

Ann, are your kids brought in by bus or by their parents? Maybe that's why you still have school? I think they're cancelling schools because of the unreliability of the buses and kids waiting at bus stops.

Hang in there!! If you are coming to Florida soon it has been very nice. 70 degrees is a severe heat wave compared to what some of you are experiencing. Think warm thoughts and be careful!

It was -15 windchill here last night. But ot's going to heat up to uppers 20's with sleet here the next couple of days in northwest Indiana!!!!! Just think 39 days ago I was easing myself into that "chilly" 82 degree water at CC......My what a difference a month makes!!!

I don't feel so bad compared to when I think about the poor homeless people and animals that are out in this! At least we haven't lost our heat! Here's a little sunshine for you! We need a little warmth here too!

Hopefully they have Homeless Shelters available ....&
I heard on the news myself about this frigid temperature in the NE parts...however, the news also says to bring your animals inside.

The preschool I teach at is open Friday as none of our children are bussed in. Our local schools are closed because of the busses. With the wind chills now forcasted to up to -45 degrees it will take approx. 2.5 mins for someone to get frostbite. The children wait for the bus outside (well mine waits in my car,but not all children have that luxery) we need to be at the bus stop at 8:15am but the bus often does not arrive until 8:25, ten mins. in that weather could be horrid. (of course I would not let any child stand outside and would invite them in my car but not everyone has a "bus stop mom")
This is the first time we have been closed due to the cold, we have had several days in a row closed for huge snow storms but not the cold. Luckilly DH could take the day off to watch Mike, otherwise he would be freezing his tushy with me at preschool..
Here is a link to our local news, now they are threatening 50 degrees below zero!! If I turn into a freezepop tomorrow.. I loved you all............................................

Thankfully here in MA. we have an abundance of homeless shelters, this past week many churches have opened their doors for the overflow. I can not imagine being homeless at this time, just taking the dog out is brutal.. (she pee's icicles...) The wind is whipping and I have put towels and blankets by all the doors- I THOUGHT we had a well built home but boy with this cold you sure locate the leaks........

We had 4 inches of snow last night into this morning, and the roads were horrible!! There were accidents and spin-outs everywhere! The snow turned into solid ice on the roads. They are saying brutally cold tomorrow, there was no school today, but I don't know about tomorrow. I don't think it's been this cold in at least 5 years!

I have been tring to figure out a vacation either to Florida or Las Vegas to see Dee Ann , however I just had to put a big deposti on cape cod and next years cruise so unless there is a great deal that pops up I am stuck here in the frozen north. I can not recall ever having it this cold for so long.......... I actually can't ever recall it being THIS cold ever.........

I sympathize with you I think I'm a Freeze Pop! I'm in RI just a little southeast of you. I teach at a private school and so far we still have school tomorrow too. There are 187 cancellations of other schools around the state though. My cruise can't get here soon enough!

Our temp for tonight (Western Maine) is -20 to -30 F. with a wind chill of -45 to -60 F.

We never got a above -10 today

I wish our school would close. I work in an old high school (the main building build in 1792--I think the heating system is also from the era!!) It is too cold to think!!!

Keep thinking of our cruise and the sunny weather !!
