We had been booking rooms in our room block for our wedding and our block filled up really fast. We were told when we booked that we could always add rooms, so we only blocked what we knew we needed figuring that would save us the fees later if they didn't get filled. Well, most of our friends and family ended up wanting to stay at the Contemporary because that's where the reception is. The Contemporary is SOLD OUT already for next July!!!! I have no idea what we're going to do! I'm so upset! My sister, my fiance's parents, my mother's best friend...none of them got rooms. They are offering us the Wilderness Lodge or Grand Floridian at discounted rates to add to our block, but it's going to be so inconvenient for getting ready :( This stinks!!!!!!!!!

Well... personally- the Wilderness Lodge IS a super nice hotel(and for a discount im sure anyoen would love staying at the Grand Floridian- although im bias with WL)- and the commute isnt that bad. Sure it isnt the most convenient but... it will serve its purpose I guess.

Keep trying back ppl may cancel and more rooms may open up! GL!

That's what I'm doing right now. I've been waiting to talk to someone for 30 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG! You have got to be kidding me! I sat there for 30 minutes (from 6:30-7:00) and then it said that the office was now closed because it was 7:00. Oooooh...I'm ticked!

Wow thats crazy. Omg I'm stressed now, I just switched to a Custom wedding and don't even have my rooms blocked. I hope everything doesnt sell out for July. Good luck tomarrow!

I would go for the GF. They can ride the monorail over. That would make it a little easier!!!

I just switched to a custom too. We're in June and I just sent the room block grid last night to Pam. She said she's send the contract within a week. She didn't mention anything about not being able to get rooms. Now I'm starting to worry!

dznystar- was this easy to do? i havent gotten new contract or anything, just told tanis i need to and i'm suppose to be talking to someone tomarrow.

Making the room block is stressful and we reduced ours because if you don't book all the rooms you block you have to pay for them (sort of.) Therefore, we blocked too low and ran out and now the hotel is booked solid! My fiance's dad got a room from Travelocity for $100 more per night than our wedding discount, but it was the only way they could get in the Contemporary. I'll be curious to see how it turns out for you two. Let me know!

Pam emailed me this list (of what seemed like a million things to send her). Everything was step by step and very easy. The only problem I had was the room block. I'm not exactly sure who is staying on property and who isn't yet. Plus we have a lot of guests that already live in Orlando. I picked 3 popular resorts and just sort of guessed where people might stay. I knew I didn't really have anyone staying in the deluxe resorts so that was easy.

For the room block, we got a feel of where everyone wanted to stay. We then made the reservations based on it. I thought that the value resort would have more room nights, it turned out that the moderate had more nights. As long as there is availability you can adjust your room block.

wow...this is my worst fear. I also reduced my room block because when i emailed everyone to see if they would be staying on Disney property no one responded. Now 15 rooms are already booked and all of a sudden 5 unexpected families want to book rooms! That is an extra 24 room nights I did not plan for. Everyone wants to stay at the Movies Resort. So do I block extra rooms and risk people changing their minds (which they will if something cheaper comes along) or do I just pray they do not sell out! Good luck SRUAlmn let us know how it all works out.

Oh that's terrible :sad2: I really do not like how Disney sets up our room blocks. I am like you, I just sent in my room block and guessed where people would be staying. I did not want to over-book either b/c I didn't want to end up paying more. I am so sorry this happened to you! You would think July 07 would not be booked up yet! This is probably going to happen to me too! Keep trying, maybe people will cancel. I am sure everything will work out in the end :wizard:

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this added stress. That stinks! The good news is that since the Contemporary and the GF are both on the monorail line, it would be very easy for your guests to get between the resorts. Are the other resorts in your room block still showing availability?

Wow, if I can get GF rooms at a good discount, SRU, can *I* come to your wedding? LOL.

Look, I just want to say that these things have a way of working out, and you all shouldn't unduly stress out over trying to accomodate your guests. Wedding guests sometimes have this attitude where they expect everything to be done for them, and then wrap it all up in a pretty bow. (Not saying this is you all's case, but just an observation.) What people sometimes forget is that they bear some responsibility in the whole wedding thing--even if they are the guests.

I would like to send out a list of wedding etiquette tips for quests. Something like:

1) A lot of thought, time, effort, planning and money is going into this wedding. Do you think you could take 5 minutes to respond in a timely fashion to the emails, RSVPs with the SASE, or phone calls so that we may plan intelligently?

2) We have asked you to come to this wedding to share our joy with us. Toward that end, would you refrain from being negative, making catty remarks or otherwise doing things which rob this very, very special, once-in-a-lifetime day of its' joy? Just---sit on it, in other words. Or stay away (no one is forcing you to attend) and allow us to save the couple hundred bucks pleasure-of-your-company tax we will have to pay in order to hear you tell me marriage is for suckers, or I am not ready, or I should be ashamed of myself for having a nice wedding when I have been married before. I guess I should sneak off and get married at midnight in the courthouse basement, huh? Pfft.

3) When you do not respond to the emails, RSVPs or phone calls, do NOT gripe about the arrangements that had to be made for *you* at the last minute.

4) Learn the art of being a good guest. Smile. Mingle. Chat politely. Don't drink too much--even if the booze is free. Don't take advantage of hospitality. If a mistakes and faux pas occurse, ignore it, or make a charming little joke about it. Work at putting others at ease. Show a little appreciation. Participate in the program, whatever it is. And remember, YOU do not need to approve of anything--it isn't your wedding. Just be happy for someone else--maybe for the first time in your life. :) Maybe it could become a habit.

Well. There now, I feel a little bitter. Better! BETTER! I meant I feel a little better! :rotfl2:

Just a few thoughts after being in, planning, or being a guest in a lot of weddings over the years.

Ladies, don't stress. Be happy. And que sera, sera. ;)

I really feel you fustration! i would be so annoyed if it happened to me but i can also see disneys reasoning behind it. If you hold 20 rooms that dont get filled then the possibility is that disney may have 20 empty rooms! Kinda sucks really!!

I hope you manage to sort something out!

The exact same thing ended up happening to us at the contemporary for April 07. We only blocked 3 rooms and then within a week the rest of the resort sold out to a convention! My EM told me that there was a good chance that close to the week the convention would release the rooms they didn't end up needing. They get the same rule as us - can block 10% over without penalty, so 10% over if they need a couple hundred rooms is a bunch of extra rooms.

The two things we did were that we got added to the waiting list - your guest who want the rooms need to do it ASAP as it's first come, first served, and our EM overbooked the resort to get us in. Check with your EM and see if they can do that for you too. We eneded up cancelling our rooms there because my mom really liked the coronado instead, but there were options.

I'd say have everyone that thinks they want the contemporary added to the wait list AND have them book rooms at the second choice resort. That way if the rooms don't come through, they've got the next best thing, and if they do come through, they can just switch their reservation.

GOOD LUCK!

Uh I feel your pain. I am so sorry. I am in the same situation in a way because we only garanteed 75 room nights but now we may need more for the end of next June. Our std's have just been sent out so I am not even sure of where people are staying yet! Hope this works out for you....as some support the Gf is beautiful and just one monorail stop away!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes! I know the GF is very convenient, but we wanted a range of price options, so we have the $100 All Stars, the $150 POFQ, the $181 Contemporary, and then the $220 Beach Club. The GF will still end up being $320ish with our discount  I can't tell people they have to now pay $140 more a night because something freakish happened! ;)

I did call Group Reservations today and talked to Jason. He made it seem like we were idiots for being surprised that the entire resort was booked. "It is summer vacation," he said. "You should have blocked more." Well, thanks Captain Obvious!! :rotfl: Anyway, we are on a waiting list for 3 more rooms. Here's hoping!!
