Oh No They Didn't !

the second near-miss... crossing speed of around 120 mph between the two trains. you literally feel the shockwave from the feet of the people on the other train:

I think the commercials are funny!!
There are lots of products that compare themselves with others on TV these days. There was a Disney commercial a while back that actually did the same thing in reverse, slight less noticable. I can't think of which one it was at the moment.

Anyway, I love all six parks. IOA is one of my favorites overall.

OMG! That looks so scary it had to be great!

I like Disney but I have any prob with this at all. I just again saw that universal commercial where the lil girl says " If I have to hug one more princess I'm gonna puke!" LOL :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

As much as I like Disney I also really like US/IOA. They have some of best rides there...Spiderman, The Mummy

we've got AP's for WDW, Universal, Busch Gardens/Seaworld. if any of the parks were sub-par, we'd never renew them. I'm so tired of the WDW/Universal rivalry crap. the presence of both resorts makes the other strive to do better. Universal is staffed with ex-Disney Imagineers. WDW is heavily marketing a vacation for a family of 4 for $1500.00. Competition is good.

I am very big on Disney and Universal. Absolutely love them both. Never swallowed that "it's all thrill rides" lump of doody about Universal. But a lot of people did, so I think it was a good idea for them to publicy show that it is just not true.

I think the comparison is a *little* teeny-weeny bit off, though.

Shrek 4-D and ITTBAB aren't thrilling attractions. I love them both, but I think the word "thrilling" is stretching it a bit.

If they are going to call the Mummy a roller-coaster, then they need to lump Dinosaur in as one, too. Although the Mummy is a much smoother (and much better) ride, I have never thought of it as a roller coaster. It should have been stuck in with "thrilling attractions."

They left the Mermaid off the list of Disney's characters. Though she hasn't received the kind of show I think she deserves, she's still there. And Mickey Mouse...although he doesn't actually have an attraction (and you have to wait in line to see him), he's there, too. Not that kids like Mickey better than Barney or Jimmy Neutron, but still...

They didn't include shows (and I'm not counting Terminator), where Disney has them beat. They don't have stage productions...they oughtta think about that, especially if they are going to get MGM in there. Disney never really did anything with the MGM stuff.

They left out Poseidon's adventure, where Disney can't begin to compare. That and Spider-Man are two things Disney just cannot compete with.

They left out all that Dr. Seuss stuff, where they have topped Disney, too.

They didn't compare themes. Disney beats them here, they beat Disney there. I guess that's hard to put in print, though.

There isn't any reason not to compare the two parks. We do it all the time on these boards.

I think it is a big shame that so many people are so loyal to Disney that they won't go to Universal. They deny themselves (and moreover, their kids) a whole lot of fun.

But, to each his own!

Bingo. as usual, MouseWorshipin, you phrase it better than I can.

Yep, competition is good. I'm kinda hoping Disney takes a long look at the list and realizes that Universal is doing a MUCH better job in some areas. :thumbsup2 Disney lost our hotel business after one stay at Universal.

but the thing about all of this is that universal feels the need to bash disney. but disney doesn't feel the need to bash them in their commercials/shows.

I hate that! The Universal hotels are so nice, but I still remained at Disney because I hate hotel-switching, and spend more days at WDW.

Now, with the FOTL stuff, I have to switch hotels. Arggh.

Universal also has Disney beat on transportation. Yeah, you can get around on busses at Disney, but it takes longer and is a pain in the...um, neck. Universal transportation actually is faster than driving! I don't know if they opened more parks if they could still do it, but...

I'm going to bed now, prayin' for your soul, like always. :goodvibes ;)

So true!! I did this for many years. Now I love visiting all the parks!!
Have to say, I LOVE the US resorts so much better than Disney resorts.
Also, I think I would classify Mummy as a coaster.

But that makes sense because Universal is basically the little guy going up against the Disney giant when it comes to theme parks. I don't see it as bashing so much as just having a little fun.

Here's the one glaring omission I see on that list.

Disney: FREE fastpasses available to ALL guests that let them avoid long waits for the popular attractions.
Universal: Not any more. Now the only way to get Express access is to pay $15-$30 per person per day or pay $250/night for a room at a Universal resort.

Dh and I are going for the first time to Universal in Sept. I can't wait to ride the, and I may have the name wrong, Dueling Dragons?! The one that has two different tracks. It looks like so much fun!

You HAVE to ride in the front seat!! It makes a big difference in the thrill of the ride, thats the only way to get the full effect!

The first half of Mummy is a dark ride but the last half is a high speed roller coaster. How did you miss that? The coaster part starts with you are shot up the hill on Mummy which is similar to the shoot on Hulk but not as long. Then the rest of the coaster is similar to Spacemountain, nothing like Dinosaur.

Spiderman is more like Dinosaur but in 3-D.

well, I think it can also help Disney. Lots of people on the fence as to stay on-site @ Universal or on-site@ Disney may look at what Universal offers and decide to go with Disney.

The fact they let pets in their rooms would have me booking Disney. If I had young children, Todays Hottest Entertainment comparison would have me booking Disney. Once I realized the Express Pass has blackout dates, I would be booking Disney.

I think Universaol is going about this the wrong way. Instead of trying to get Disney fans to switch to them, they should POLITELY invite Disney fans who never leave Disney property to try them out for a day or two. Not give them free tickets, but maybe a discount, a reminder that there is more to Orlando than Disney.

See the thing is, if they are aiming this at 1st time vacationers, how many people book US because people they know have come back and told them "You HAVE to go to Universal Studios." The comparison will not have much impact. I have been personally responsible for at least 3 families booking a Disney vacation. I don't think they would of changed their mind and stayed at US by looking at that comparison.

I didn't find it tacky. So what they're comparing themselves. Business do it all the time.

I bought 2 two day adult tickets which they upgrade to a 5 day pass and then threw in 2 5 day kids tickets! All for $212! That is much cheaper than Disney will ever be! Granted I love Disney and will always go back. But for us this was the best route to go. And our kids have been begging to go to universal! I can't wait!

I think it's smart business. They aren't bashing Disney, they're just putting the finances on the line. And if you think Disney doesn't do its best to trash Universal, think again. ;)

I love 'em both. The more they fight the better the deals for their guests (sometimes).
