I could have sworn last time I measured my three-year-old, she was 38.5 inches tall barefoot. I thought we stood a chance at the big rides for her, the little daredevil; thought she'd be able to do SM and BTMRR....

I measured her today; she's 37 inches tall. She'll never make it, we go in just 7 weeks.

Urgh, she's not going to be a happy camper, she wants on those rides.

I know she'll have another half inch in her shoes, but that's about it. I have no interest in wiggling around the system with lifts or anything, I appreciate the safety limits. I'm just bummed out. Oh well, Disney's not going anywhere, and she'll grow....

Sadly,

Kris

I start looking for some shoes that "heighten".

A friend did that for their son, he was a hair too short but his sister's sneakers made him taller. So when it can time for the height restriction rides, they switched shoes.

Good luck.

Measrue her again. Bet she was just not standing up straight. Of course you might have measured wrong the first time. Hope not. Glad you will not risk putting your child at risk for a ride. Keep pushing those veggies!!:) .

I am having a similar problem with my son. He is measuring at 34 inches so he is just below being able to ride Barnstormer. That was without shoes on though so around 34.5 I guess. I am just hoping he wasn't standing up straight. We will find out when we get there I guess. I agree though that I will not put him in danger just to get him on a ride. There is always 2006!

I also read here somewhere that CMs have become aware of the "shoe switch" and some of them are asking kids to remove their shoes to be measured which I think is a great thing.

Have a great trip!!

Sandra

She's got to have a growth sprout sometime pray for it soon.

She mustn't have been standing quite right yesterday, but I think I was also thinking before of her height IN her shoes....I put her in her Dora shoes and she's 38 inches. In her Blues Clues runners, she's 38.5 inches (that's probably how I measured her before, and just forgot and thought I'd measured her barefoot).

"Eat your sweet potatoes, darling, if you want to go on Splash Mountain!"

I don't mind at all having her in the Blues Clues runners, they have the best support for trekking around the parks anyways, they're better than the Dora ones, which are sneakers. But she's going to have to make up that other inch and a half on her own, or she's outta luck this trip.

I've been telling her she isn't going to be able to go. She's quite matter of fact about it here at home, but when she sees that ride, it might be another story. She's my really adventurous girl. I'm the one who's considering hypnotism to get me over my fear of rides....

Here's hoping for that growth spurt, Jasminesmommy!

Sounds like you're taking the right approach - encouraging the hope but preparing her that it might not happen. I also commend you for not trying to "fudge" with some extreme measures.

My DD and I went in mid-September. About 2 weeks before our trip, I measured her without shoes and she was about 38.5". I figured she'd be close to the height minimum in shoes so we waited until we got to to the ride to see if she "measured up". Unfortunately, even in her sneakers (thicker soles than the sandles we brought) the top of her head had plenty of clearance under the measuring bar at Splash Mountain. I have a feeling they set it a bit above the ride's height minimum to account for the extra height shoes would give. They did have the measuring bar built over its own platform so at least ground slope wouldn't affect the measurement.

Luckily, I hadn't talked too much about these rides with DD before we got there so she wasn't too disappointed that she couldn't go on it. After we measured her, I made sure to try to avoid getting too close a look at the rides she couldn't go on so it wouldn't upset her again. However, it was harder with Splash Mountain since DD liked to watch the logs drop - and that seemed to be why she wanted to go on it. Oh well, I hope we can get to DLR next fall and she'll definitely be tall enough by then at the rate she's grown this summer.

We're going in a little under 10 weeks and DS (turns 3 in January) is 37.25 inches without shoes. He wants to ride Kali but I'm not optimistic about a growth spurt. Hoping, but not expecting :D

When our youngest son was 4 he wanted to go on star tours sooooo bad. I had gone to walmart and went to the girl section in shoes and bought a pair of sneakers that had at least 1 1/2 inch heel. He would have screamed bloody murder if he knew he was wearing girls shoes but it did the trick! They did measure him and we kept telling him to stand tall - he just made it. everyone was happy. That was 5 years ago - we don't have that problem anymore - but we still talk about the "cheat shoes".

By the way Storybook mum - are you by chance from London? I grew up in Sarnia now living in NC. I usually go by mumofsons but messed up when signing up for the DIS (I quess I didn't read the instructions). Good luck with the shoe/height thing.

and if his lack of height got him hurt on the ride, would you sue wdw?

Nope, April, not from London, just love stories, writing them, reading them, and sharing them with my kiddies. A couple of others have thought I might be in London as well. Originally from Ottawa, now MUCH further south....

Have a vitamin, Meredith! Eat your veggies!

lol,

Normally I would not be insulted by someone's comments on these boards but Gigi1313 I have to say I read your post and feel very insulted. My son was 39.5 inches when we went when he was four. He needed half an inch, I gave him an advantage. I feel that you are insinuating that not only am I not a good parent - I would sue someone/corporation due to my lack of parenting skills and could not take responsibility for my own actions. I feel that your remark was unwarrented as you do not know me personally. After riding Star Tours with my then 6 year old - I knew that my 4 year old could handle it, height and weight wise. There was another poster that said something about shoes. Sorry to include this in your thread StoryBookmum but obviously this remark really upset me.

Just an FYI for someone in the future:

My son was too small for the star tours but my daughter just made it.. We all stood in line together and when we got to the front, the CMs let us all go into the ride that DIDN't move.

They made my son feel so special and even gave him a certificate. In fact, my daughter who was able to ride the "real" ride felt like she was missing out!

That was a very special memory for him.

maps, that's a very good to know! I didn't know there was such an option, thank you for sharing that!

(too bad there isn't a chicken exit at Splash Mountain...)

I have a petite one who seems like she is going to be a little adventurer. She is 4-years old 37inches & 30 pounds.

She loves watching our video of when she was 14-months and went to Disneyland. We also have a mid-nineties video called “Day at Disneyland.” She went on a kick of wanting to watch that all the time. It has Mickey opening the park and then different characters go on different rides. It ends with the electrical parade.

I am very worried about our next visit to Disneyland (hopefully mid-December). My daughter acts like she is going to ride BTMR and Splash Mountain. I have explained that she is still not tall enough yet and she seems to understand, but I really worry what is going to happen when she sees the rides in person. I think from watching the tape of her trip and the “Day at Disneyland” tape it is almost like she feels like she has been on those rides before.

I have let her know she is now tall enough to ride the Matterhorn.

Thankfully she has a little sister that won’t be able to ride on a couple of the rides that my oldest will be able to (Matterhorn & the little coaster in Toon Town). I am hoping to use that as a way to make my oldest understand the height difference. Make her feel a little special about getting to ride a couple of things her sister can’t. Plus her sister is at an age where she won’t care.

Good luck with your trip,

Sher

Here's my dilemna I have twins, in May when we go they will be 5.5 yrs. old. My DS is at 42 inches (perfect) but right now DD is at 39 inches, and they want to go on Splash and thunder Mtn. Anyone have any ideas of foods that help you grow besides broccoli and carrots? LOL..........
