oh no! poor trip planning on my part

ARGH i just realized that the very beginnings of the trip I was starting to plan for the end of may overlooked a very important point...I was planning for memorial day weekend...one of the busiest times at WDW! I really don't want to have to put up with a gigantic crowd....unfortunately DBF is in grad school and can't go any earlier than that. i don't know what to do!!! what is the best time in the summer for a couple of adults to go to the parks and try to avoid the crowds? every day something like this comes up to make me think that this trip is just not going to happen.... DBF is way too stressed out with school right now to even want to talk about it, I feel like I'm nagging him every time I bring it up.

That's a very difficult question to answer, since "summer" at WDW often means "packed parks."

If it has to be summer, I would either stick with late May (Memorial weekend or not) or early June. After that you risk being subjected to extreme heat, humidity, sometimes daily rain/thunderstorms (hurricane season can bring tropical storms), and maximum crowds. Given that, I'd rather have the not-quite-as-hot/not-quite-as-humid holiday weekend in spite of the crowd.

Sure, you might get lucky and have not-too-miserable mid-summer weather, but you never know until you're there.

Time spent at WDW is all in the attitude. I personally do better in a holiday crowd than I do trying to escape the weather, being disappointed because the Spectromagic parade gets cancelled due to heavy rain, or my favorite rides are shut down due to lightning. So decide what matters most to you, and realize that although it probably won't be perfect, it will still be Disney!

We've gone early June and it's not too crowded. The earlier, the better, as schools start letting out.

We've been to WDW twice--both times during Memorial Day Weekend. The crowds are not that bad. A lot of kids are still in school. With BF in school you have actually picked one of the best times to go. My recommendation: Be at peace with your timing decision. Plan your days for crowds. (Plan for the worst, hope for the best, and be pleasantly surprised when you realize it is not as bad as you thought it would be) Also, prioritize which rides/activities are musts and which ones can be missed, and use the Fast Passes.

With that said, you will have a wonderful time. BF will be grateful to be out of school and away from the books. You will be grateful that he is away from the books. (He can now concentrate on you and not books)

thank you so much for the replies, everyone. i agree that it would be better to go when the weather is nicer than in the extreme heat/humidity/rain. i think we might be able to work out going the week before - it would mean leaving the moment DBF's classes end so I just need him to confirm that that will be okay and I can start planning, I hope. thanks again!!!

Three years ago I went on the July 4th. I was really worried that it would be too crouded, but it wasn't that bad. The queues weren't short, but we still did everything we wanted and had a really good time.

Like everyone else said, attitude is everything, so if you go there to have a good time and don't let the little things get to you, you'll have a great time.
