Let's all hand our heads in sheer sympathy for my poor in-laws.

The poor dears have five weeks of timeshare to use before the end of the year, so they've chosen Bonnet Creek in Orlando and will be visiting every-other-week or so until their time is exhausted.

I know, I know. It is a sacrifice for them to do so and I know all of the do-gooders here on the Disboards will pray and/or send them good thoughts during this very trying time. I don't know just HOW they are going to deal with this.

Obviously you don't know my in-laws. I am burden-less by being a country apart from them.

But, I am sending my husband closer to Christmas because I am a giving and caring person.

My mom has a similar problem .... she has 25 vaction days that she just has to use before the end of the year or she will lose them. Poor her, having to decide if she'd rather take off Monday and Tuesdays for the rest of the year, or Mondays and Fridays! I can't remember the last time she worked a regular 5 day week.

I'm so sorry for your in laws. It must be such a difficult time for them.

Try this one on for size. This is a friend of my parents. He has been with his company for as long as I can remember. He maxed out on 5 weeks of vacaction a year, years ago. This is how he uses it and has for forever.

With 5 weeks of vacation and 2 days off at Thanksgiving and 2 days at Christmas, the last day that he will work in 2009 is Friday November 20th. Now seeing as he picks up 5 weeks for 2010 on 1/1/2010, he won't return to work until February 10, 2010. That includes being off New Years day.

He takes every other winter off and goes and stays in FL with his wife. He is reachable, he'll respond to e-mail and phone messages, but you will never see him in the office.

He'll take off for FL some time in November 2011 and stay until February 2012.
