Oh know Im sick, we go to DW in 48 hrs!

My worst nightmare just came true, I spent the night in the ER with 104 temp. I was diagnosed strep throat and sinus infection. How fast do these antibiotics work. Will I be better by Thursday? I am crossing my fingers that I am. Its our First trip with DD4.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you. I know dd peditrician says you will usually see improvement in 24 hours after starting a antibiotic.

I have alot of experience with strep throat, unfortuneatly. But I have good news...as long as you take the antibiotics they gave you, you should feel ALOT better in 48 hours. By Friday, though you may be a little tired from the fever, you will be good to go. Have a great trip and don't worry...you'll be fine!

DS6 woke up two Saturdays ago very ill. I don't usually rush him right to the doctor (why pay a copay to have them tell us to give him over the counter meds and lots of fluids), but DH insisted. He did have a bad case of strep. He started antibiotics around lunchtime and by midday Sunday was feeling very well. He went to school on Monday (the doc said he was contagious Friday, Saturday and Sunday only).

Hopefully your sinus infection will also respond quickly to the drugs. We'll send pixie dust your way.

Since you've got sinusitis, if you're flying, remember to pack along a supply of decongestants for take-off and landing. It can be harder to equalize when you've got sinusitis.

Count me in! My 4yr old daughter got strep last Wednesday. I took her to the doctor because she was having allergy issues and the doc said her throat looked red and sure enough, strep. Now on Friday night I'm feeling terrible. Strep again. Sinuses too. Over the weekend phone service called in something and on Monday I saw the doctor and he did amoxicillyn 1000mg 2 X a day to knock it out. Just make sure they gave you something strong to knock it out good. My doctor said my problems may also be allergy related. Bad problems here in NC this year. Extreme pollen. I have been on antibotics 3 X this year. He said starting next Sept. I need a nasal spray and Allegra every day through May. Then we can see if it is allergy related or if I am picking it up from the kids each time. He said by keeping the nasal passage open and free that would help prevent bacteria and virus from getting in there, staying and causing all kinds of problems. Now I'm on to the never ending cough. Hopefully, that will end very soon. I will pray for you. Have a great time!!!!!!

as long as you have a fever the sinus inflection is also contagious.

I just got over one - you have my sympathy. Flying with sinus problems is not a fun time....

You will be feeling better very soon. Sinus pressure is very painful, but you can help break up the pressure by taking a hot shower and let the hot water pound on your forehead. When I had a sinus infection, my doctor prescribed an antibiotic and nasonex nasal spray which had me feeling better in no time. Advil helps reduce the swelling in your nasal passages and will help to reduce your fever. Stay hydrated and rest when you can. Enjoy your trip!

Aw hon, I feel for you. I spent the last month of last year, and the first six weeks of this year on antibiotics, due to a combination of strep, sinusitus and god knows what else. I took BiaxinXL for 2 months straight, and though it did help, I've still got the sinus infection. Guess who'll be going to the ENT in a few weeks to see about having them cleaned out and starting from scratch? It gets worse though, I live in Florida and my allergies SUCK big time. Rest until you leave, take sinus pills an hour before take off, and an hour before landing if you're flying. I hope you'll be feeling better.

Psst.. though if you're too sick to travel, call DRC to see if you can postpone the trip.. they're good with illness.

When I was preganant I got a sinus infection. The OB didn't want to give me antibiotics right away so he had me us a saline nasal spray 4+ times a day. I was better before you know it!

The antibiotics will help you, but a saline nasal spray is a good non-medicated way to relieve some of the symptoms.

Really wish you the best! Be faithful with taking the antibiotics. Also can suggest keeping some Hall's cough drops handy - take during lift off and prior to landing to help you clear out you sinuses during the times when the pressure in the plane is most effected.

My doc gave me antibiotics and said to use nose spray. A question I should have thought to ask my doctor but I was just too out of it - can I take Advil at the same time as the antibiotics????

My Dr. gave me 800mg ibuphrophen to keep the swelling down, and the fever. Advil is Ibuphophen so I guess its okay!

If in doubt about mixing meds, I would phone a pharmacy. Many are open 24 hours a day now.
