Last September friends moved in with us for a month while they closed on their new house. we went to the world for 2 weeks, these friends went for one week after us and came in for one night that overlapped with us, so i paid for their room to come to AofA LM resort with us (our kids are the same age, so it was a fun treat for the kiddos). And what do I find in my email today? A PIN for free dinig for the rest of the year and I go to verify it to gets rates and it keeps saying the last name is wrong. No big deal, thought maybe I booked with my maiden name, or hyphenated and low and behold nope... It's my friends last name!!! Oh I could cry! Do I even bother calling and begging them to switch the name? I mean its my email address, my mailing address! Seriously off to cry myself to sleep....

The pin is unique to your household (it even states so in the pin link) - so you, or anyone living at the address, should be able to use it. I get pins with relatives names/my address and have used them.

Btw, I spoke to an experienced CM today about possibly having a pin attached to my address. He was so helpful and checked both my po box and physical addresses. It didn't matter whose name it was under, he was willing to book it if a pin showed up.....

Well, I'm certainly going to give it a try :)!

About 2 years ago we brought along a 16 year old friend of my DDs with us for a summer trip. A few months later we got a Disney Visa 200 dollar offer addressed to "The XXXXX Family" at our address. Her last name was XXXXX. We passed on the offer to them but they were not thrilled about getting a fresh credit card.

Go ahead and ask.....................all they can do is say "no".

The PIN is also tied to the name, not just the address. When you verify the PIN on the online booking system, you have to enter your last name and your zip code. You cannot have a different last name.

Wonder what it cost to legally change your last name? LOL....hey, I'm just sayin'!

The conflicting info cannot be used to book via the online booking system since it asks for the last name (friend) and zip code (OP) of a person they believe resides within the household.

The household address, phone number, and email on file are also tied to a pin, and verified. I spoke to a CRO manager about this last year.

OP, perhaps I didn't make myself clear. In situations like this it's best to call.

Definitely call. They send emails to my mother and brother in law to my email address. I may have to call several times, but someone eventually lets me use it!!

Yesterday they sent me the FD pin to my mother in law's name and address. I called and just said that I had an email PIN and she used it. I did try it online first and it denied me.

I helped a friend book a trip years ago and used their name and my address. I often get PINS in the mail with this combo but have never tried to use one. Maybe next time I'll try by calling and see if I'm pleasantly surprised? :rotfl:

I just wanted to come back and update! We got to use the code!

I called and explained that I recieved an email with a pin code to our mailing address and my email, but another family's last name, friends that lived with us briefly while their house was being built. He said, "Okay, we aren't going to talk about that anymore, and I'm going to just manually input the code based on your household address and we will just keep going." :rotfl:

It went all the way through, I have my confirmation number and everything! I will still be nervous til I get my email, but I'm so excited!!!:yay:

WOW! You got some serious pixie dust there. Definitely go over the email very closely to make sure it worked. Congrats! :goodvibes

I always thought they were name specific as well, but there have been other reports with this pin of people using them, even if they are not in their name. I am still waiting for my pin to come. :rotfl: Probably be waiting until July or August and hoping for it to open to general public. :sad1:

Oh yes, I definitely knew to call if I was going to have any chance to get it. Thanks for encouraging me to try! So glad I did!

I had a similar situation. The pin came to my email, but it was for my grandmother that I had traveled with years earlier and made the reservation for with my email address. When I called Disney the person who I talked to said that I could not use it unless my grandmother was traveling with me. She even put me on hold to check, but no luck for me. :-( Glad you were able to get it to work for you though! That's awesome. :-) I do wish Disney would be consistent about allowing people to apply it though.

I called and the CM sent me a new email which I verified as I spoke with them to prove it was MY email address! SO now the PIN codes come to ME on this email! I just got one the other day for Free Dining for the second time! Goes all the way thru Dec 22! So HAPPY! I always advise people to CALL! We got a Postcard pin code once in my 11 year old niece's name!!! AND they wouldn't let me use it without HER! REALLY! She was 11 and her parents couldn't get off work that week so we couldn't use it... but we could have reserved three rooms with the code so had they NOT been working we could have SHARED it! Disney does a LOT to accomodate... sometimes it's best to call and talk to someone ELSE if one CM says no...
