Oh Great.. Yavn's got an update to the recent announcement about the future of VMK.

What are you, a Walt Disney historian? Thing is, the WALT DISNEY Company can use WALT DISNEY's words as it sees fit. Imagine that. The words were not twisted; Disney is moving onto other things, just as VMK players will have to do when this is over. Looks to me like Disney is trying to make the transition as easy as possible.

By all means, be a gnat in whoever's ear you want to: send letters and emails and make phone calls. My feeling is this: by now, Disney knows how many people play their game and they know how strongly they feel about this sitution, and yet they're staying their course. Do what you feel compelled to do, but don't say you weren't warned of the outcome; I don't think they could make it much more clear.

I did not see this post when I replied a couple minutes ago. After I post this message I think I will just remain quiet from now on. I'm well aware the Company will use Walt's quotes. As an adult, I also know they will use things to their advantage, and in cases like this, using it the way they are using it, I find that inherently wrong.

As for the "What are you, a Walt Disney historian?" question, yes I have studied Walt's life for years. I'm no official historian, but I do know a thing or two about his life. And to me using a quote that is so inspirational to so many to justify why they are closing a game is wrong.

"We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."

Hmmm... If that is the case why are favorite rides like Dumbo, Peter Pan, Snow White still around? Sure Disney likes to try new things, BUT it knows to keep something that the public loves (except for maybe Mr. Toad's disappearance in WDW).

Your opinion respected. :) Post about whatever you'd like and I'll control myself better. I got a little excited.

Ok what has me confused still is that November of 2006 they had the big promo on ebay. I got the code and went to see what VMK was about, I loved it. Well at that time I was not told that it was only a promotion for the 50th anniversary. Why were they still pushing it if it was suppose to have ended? Why did Yavn calm our fears when people asked if vmk was closing because the in the park quests were ending? Why did he said we are still going strong? He made me feel safe and then pulled the rug from under my feet. It just doesn't seem right that a Disney Company would do that to me, to us.

On the bright side, this is the third time in one week that VMK has updated Yavn Speaks ;)

Some quotes from Walt that are so VMK to me::hug:

"We believed in our idea - a family park where parents and children could have fun - together."—Walt Disney

"My business is making people, especially children, happy." —Walt Disney

All I know is that what we are doing in the end may fail. But then again it may succeed. But at the 10:00pm May 21st. I know I did all I could to help stop the tears from falling. I wish with all my heart that there is something better in the horizon. I do not understand VMK ran its course. I think really the program can not grow anymore. When we get above 7,000 the lag is extremely bad.

But not a techie have not idea.

If I knew that they had another game planned that was even more amazing that VMK or even and idea then I could wait.

The more we write the more little bits come out.

But for cars and fairys not interested. For Pirates that is a gamers game, and toon town not really for me

All I can say is I have to try. It can not hurt to send my letters. I am not basking anyone. But it can if I do not.

Didn't somebody post a response they got from Disney to their letter that was almost the same text as that Yavn speaks?

You think they could have at least gone to the trouble to write an original form letter to send individually to the people who care enough about saving VMK to write. Sheesh.

I really wish you would stop telling people to give up. If we want to try to keep vmk open, that's our business.

I'm sure that most of us realize that we have nearly impossible odds. But, if people gave up every time they hit and obstacle, we wouldn't have WDW, DLR, Snow White or even a United States of America.

Yes, as Walt said, we have to move along.
But, I missed the part where they closed a park!

Sure they got rid of Mr. Toad and brought in Pooh.
In VMK we got Frontierland and Tomrrowland but lost the Spell room and Discovery Island! But Disney has never closed Magic Kingdom or Epcot! They can change rooms, but don't close our Virtual Magic Kingdom!

Exactly!

I appreciate your reminder, cteddiesgirl. I most sincerely appologize and I am impressed by everybody's dedication to this cause, which is much more important than my personal feelings about it. What's great about Disney is that it means something different to each one of us; that's what we cherish about it and that's what keeps us coming back.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for everything you're doing here. Keep it up. If there's anybody that can Save VMK, it's you. :thumbsup2

Good, we've gotten them to notice. Now we just need to keep going and show them we'll keep going until the end.

Not sure if this got siad here or not as I can't get the entire thread to come up but they will come up with a way for us to keep in touch with our VMK frineds right after they release Flying Carpet Magic....

I NOTICED THIS TOO! i think it is great we have inspired some action on their part, even though we aren't hearing what we want to hear YET. we need to keep on! their are way more of us than there are of them... but i agree with everyone that we need to remain respectful and PROFESSIONAL.

"HEAVE HO! haul together, NEVER say we Die!!!! pirate:

I'm sorry if I tick anyone off with my mini-rant, but I can't stand this anymore. STOP using Walt's words to justify this decision! This makes me sick that those brilliant and inspirational words are being twisted to support breaking people's hearts as a beloved hobby and community and friendships end.

I agree if they're so concerned about Walt maybe they should also think about how Walt would feel about all the kids losing the friends they have, how it bring families together wether they're in the same house or a parent is in the military and the other many many reasons

here is my translation of the new yavn speaks:

Hello again.

So it's been a difficult past few days for all of us. I know many of you are upset – some upset with me, some upset with the company, and lots of you just plain upset. Many of you are still struggling to understand the decision we made to close Virtual Magic Kingdom. We hear you and we share your concern and sorrow.

Everyone is so upset with me and Disney. I have read the bashings on the boards, and I am tired of it. I know exactly why you are struggling but but I am not going to tell you anything about why we are shutting down VMK. So keep suffering!

We have received an incredible outpouring of emotion regarding the decision and wish we could respond to each of you. Unfortunately, it's impossible to respond to you all individually. But please know, we're touched by your concerns and feel your heartache.

We have received all of your junk emails and deleted them, we dont care what you think. We are in it for the money and so we are shutting it down.

We hear you and we share your concern and sorrow.

I'm just copy/pasting what I was told to. Yadda yadda.

In addition to the concerned and upset players who have contacted us, many of you have called or emailed to thank us for running the product as long as we did. We're glad that you have had a chance to enjoy it and will continue to do so for these next few weeks.

We just made that up, we are trying to send subliminal messages to you and hope you will thank us instead.

Please know that the decision to close VMK was not made without a great deal of thought and discussion – because we loved creating VMK just as much as you loved playing it. We considered many options prior to closing but ultimately determined that VMK had accomplished its goal and then some. VMK was a valuable part of the Disneyland 50th Celebration, but it was never meant to live on forever. It's now time to focus our resources on our new virtual worlds.

We discussed it for a few minutes, Disney loves money and VMK wasnt bringing home the bacon, so we are canning it. We didn't consider anything but since you guys are becoming so efficient and organized we need to save face and think of something. Give me a break, I am not even yavn, he left VMK long ago.

Please enjoy VMK while you can, and let's all be thankful that we got to enjoy the game for as long as we did. We thank you for being part of this journey with us! And we hope we continue to see you at Disney.com and in our other online worlds enjoying what we imagine next!

Again with the subliminal messages, be grateful people! Get on your knees and thank us. You owe us, we owe you nothing. So stop petitioning, stop organizing, stop trying to resist the Disney Empire. We command you. No we cant tell you anything not even a date but we are imagining new games, and based on our reputation you can count on us screwing everything up, never delivering on our promises and eventually closing the game because the promo ended. You can't count on Disney, we just shut down games whenever we feel like it. No we dont care how much you've invested into your avatar or how many pins or friends you have, it's all over. We dont care, now start registering for Cars Online because you know the idea of being a virtual car in a game about that Pixar bomb Cars from 2 years ago sounds so much more exciting than a human character game based on theme parks. Fairies? Sounds like girls only but deal with it!

Hey, we've still got a month and a half left to run the game, and we still have plenty of magic left. Let's enjoy it!
See you in the game,

-Yavn

Please stop petitioning and calling, the new VMK head honcho decided to close VMK so he can move on to another project and make more money. If you guys keep petitioning and fighting, Yanover or Iger will take notice and get involved. We want to move on from VMK, we are bored and also tired of paying Sulake. We decided to do everything in house Disney. So just stay shut, keep playing VMK and stop petitioning people!

-This is not the real yavn, he has moved on to bigger better more money making things. Like I am trying to do!! Stop petitioning people, you might succeed and we are getting worried.

"My business is making people, especially children, happy." —Walt Disney

What has happened to Disney now is that it is a business. The big heart is gone. Decisions are not made on people being happy. In a business today,it is the all mighty dollar.
Now more than ever we need a place where a family can have fun together. My family has three generations playing VMK. What a nice way to keep in touch with your family and friends. I think Walt would have loved it.
