Oh Florida! An East Meets West Girl's TR: 8/9 p56 & 8/17 p57

YAYAYAYAYAY! I am so having one of them. First of all - it looks like the perfect 1/2 marathon drink. And secondly - It looks like the perfect "take me away from winter" drink.

BTW- how are you holding up with all that snow. The pictures I see of Boston on the news are INSANE! And aren't you getting more snow soon?

Perfect!

That's really pretty funny. So I should actually carry the recipe in my wallet and pull it out whenever I need a treasure treat?

Oh, yeah, I also had a ST when I met a couple of DIS/BC friends locally, so yes, I think most bartenders will make the drink if you are able to provide the recipe.

Yup, calling for another "blizzard" here Saturday into Sunday. Another foot to 18 inches here. Fortunately, Monday morning looks clear so far (fingers crossed)

Big problem is finding a place to put all the snow we have, and getting around. Tuesday Mark didn't go into work because all the trains into Boston were not running. They are up and running again, but random trains keep getting cancelled. On Wednesday morning, his train didn't have lights or heat. But at least it was moving. Driving into the city is worse. Hour(s) long gridlock across town. It has been a LOOOONNNNGGGG week (following a few long weeks).

:cold:

This trip I'd be taking American and going through Dallas. The flight was well, a red eye, full and that about sums it up. I dozed. I don’t remember it being fabulous or awful, it got me to Dallas. The bad part about a non direct red eye is that leg 2 is jarring. On a direct everyone is still on my same time zone and the morning part/landing is quiet. Have a layover and change planes and WHAM everyone getting on is GOING TO DISNEYWORLD and full of energy.

At any rate, I landed on schedule around 9:40 am EST.:thumbsup2
That sounds like a very rough travel day. Your Mother's Day sounds lovely but you must have been ready for some sleep by the time you got on the plane.

We are the people getting on the plane at 6am, excited about going to Disney. ;) I tend to sleep on the plane, since I have to wake up at 3am for the flight. But there are always cheery, chatting people around me on these early morning flights.:coffee:

Now, those of you who may follow my ridiculous ramblings of sugar issues while running do need to know that I can eat sugar. I do eat sugar. That said, I only tolerate it well if it’s mixed with a carb or a protein and of course if I am not actually exercising. And, truth be told tolerating it well is probably an overstatement but it’s a price I am willing to pay on occasion. I would need to follow it up with a protein pretty quickly but it was Flower and Garden and one of the fabulous changes since our previous F&G trip was the addition of food kiosks themed to flower and gardeny things so I was pretty confident I could find some yummy bad for me protein to soak up all the sugar in fairly short order.
I have the same problem with sugar and usually avoid it on an empty stomach. A serving of bacon usually fixes that problem, though. ;)

Wow - look at you! You got your update done ahead of schedule. I am impressed! :worship:

Well the timing worked out. I am out of town today but the clients I was going to take to dinner didn't get back to me and my colleague blew me off for dinner as well so I had the perfect night! I had fatburger delivered to my room, :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 watched idol and got my update done. Of course it helped that it wasn't much of an update lol. I am SO bad that first day on every trip I take. And I will likely do replies today as I can as my weekend just turned insanely busy. For a good reason. My parents sold the house!!!!!!!!!!!!! But adding in the last push of clearing crap out of it was NOT on my agenda for the weekend for sure. Going to try to get a DL trip update up as well. I'd love to get a couple in over there before we leave but 2 might be pushing it, we will see. I'll update the other PTR on Monday as usual.

You did a 10 mile run on Mother's day! :worship:

I have no idea why I ran that far back in May when the half wasn't till almost Sept, guess I just wanted to? Or that it was lovley out and mothers day and I could? No clue. I even ran from the house with our hill. I have a feeling though the time I put into RK is off as if you add the hill in, I can't see how I really did it that fast but who knows. What I do know is I slowed down after that. Of course the heat also went up.

I didn't realize you no longer had a non-stop flight to Orlando. That's got to be a bummer when you are taking a red eye. At least you'll be traveling with Ann on your upcoming trip and the two of you will be on the same time zone!

Oh we have them, just not red eyes except for fri/sat. Our red eye is odd in a different way. We leave really early, like 5pm so get into MCO BEFORE 5am...which is a bit too early in my book. That said, we should avoid the uber happy 6am folks as we go through LA so it means the actual red eye is a more traditional one full of west coasters. We have a non stop back. And the good part about going through LA is we don't have to worry about any winter delays on the leg.

I LOVED our view. It was so perfect. You did such an awesome job on narrowing down our location. Perfection!

I am so glad you liked it and WOW the hidden bonus of the SSR trail link being right there. That was amazing!

You made great time getting to the park. The timing was great.

So - is it wrong that I did not love the cronut. I was certain I would and it was just "eh" to me. In all fairness, I feel like I have to try it again, but earlier in the day or maybe for dessert. Maybe the timing was wrong for me.

Nope, not wrong. Jeff doesn't care for them. Then again he is not big on either sugar donuts or croissants. He likes the gut bomb old fashioneds!

So when do you guys leave? Tuesday? I'm so jealous! I want to leave SO bad. Instead, I have another 52 hour work week and a student with me for 4 days. UGH! :faint: I'm just keeping my eye on the prize!

No, we leave weds so land early Thursday morning. I may well end up doing some work at the airport on Weds depending on what time my ride wants to drop me off to avoid rush hour traffic and fits best with their schedule. I have a 2 hour budget meeting in the morning (UGH) but can head to the airport anytime after that so need to be 100% packed Tuesday night. Really I hope to be packed on Sunday.

A student for 4 days? UGH! 52 hours next week? Double UGH!

YAYAYAYAYAY! I am so having one of them. First of all - it looks like the perfect 1/2 marathon drink. And secondly - It looks like the perfect "take me away from winter" drink.

That does look like a drink you'd like and it is full of electrolytes! :thumbsup2 Maybe you can have it at breakfast lol. I'm thinking a mimosa myself. I can't really do Midori (too sweet) or Blue Caracao unless they are in super small doses and even then it's pushing it. Together in one would be too much for me I am pretty sure.
:welcome: home Cynthia!!!

My Mothers' Day was Disney-related, too! That's when I told Mark that what I wanted was to go away on my solo trip to meet up with my DIS friends. We purchased my plane ticket that morning. :thumbsup2

That is a perfect mothers day present!

Pretty view!

LOVE that view

I love the planning that went into your morning arrival "meal"!

I am a bit silly about it. I had similar planning issues for our arrival in Sept for our anniversary trip and breakfast ended up being a total bust. Moral of the story is when a 2 leg red eye gets you in at 9:30 just forget about the dream of breakfast foods. Of course Ann and I have the opposite problem. We land SO early that not even the MCO starbucks will be open! I want the happy medium, land around 7:30 am. Oh well.

Looking forward to reading about all of meeting up!

But it may not happen until we are all back from our trips. If I don't get back here, wishing you and Mary Ellen good times (in your races, but mostly just being together)!!!

:cheer2:

Have a GREAT trip, I am a bit jealous as I am dying to see Gringott and I want a full debrief on the food if you hit Jakes or The Kitchen. :goodvibes

You NEED vacation now! Hoping that everything is clear for you to get out of dodge on time.

That sounds like a very rough travel day. Your Mother's Day sounds lovely but you must have been ready for some sleep by the time you got on the plane.

You know, I am so used to it at this point that no, it wasn't rough at all to tell you the truth. It's kind of a necessary evil. I don't ever sleep much but I do doze and that will get me through the day to make the time change. Plus you do run on pure energy at first when you arrive and that helps.

We are the people getting on the plane at 6am, excited about going to Disney. ;) I tend to sleep on the plane, since I have to wake up at 3am for the flight. But there are always cheery, chatting people around me on these early morning flights.:coffee:

I have the same problem with sugar and usually avoid it on an empty stomach. A serving of bacon usually fixes that problem, though. ;)

LOL! Never thought about a serving of bacon although certainly if someone handed it to me I'd eat it. Not first thing though, I just can't eat right away, I generally just have an early lunch on work days and then it's brunch foods on the weekends but the timing is similar, or later actually as I am getting up later. I do go for savory though when I do eat.

Caught up!

Mary Ellen: Wow, what a surprise! Love it. I'm sure all the shopping from store to store was worth it once you got to see Pat.
And I agree, World of Disney can be overwhelming at times. It's just so loud and so busy. I've never been in there when it's not packed to the brim with shoppers.

Cynthia: the advantage to having a hard time remembering departure day is that it means nothing bad or stressful happened. Seeing as nine times out of ten that's not usually the case, only being able to recall the basics is a relief. Nothing starts off a friends getaway better than smooth travels.
And oh, how I completely agree with you about packing for yourself! I'd love taking trips more if I wasn't having to account for a husband's favorite shirt or spare baby wipes.
And again, yes! I am the same way about breakfast, too. It's too much effort to cook a big breakfast when you're the last one to sit down and eat and everyone else is already finished. A cronut sounds like the perfect solution to your meal problem. You'll still get to be in the parks with the others all while satisfying that craving. Hope it worked out!

I can't imagine those red eyes but I know its the best way to fly. Flying east just sucks up the whole day even when I try to get the first flight of the day. Glad you got there on time and on your way to meet up with everyone and get your Cronut! The cronut is on my list of delicacies to try in October!

Jill in CO

I especially love it when…

It's only ME I have to worry about!

I can totally understand that feeling!

The cronut!

YES!

I could take DME to OKW, dump my stuff, change, meet Mary Ellen at Epcot and head STRAIGHT for sugary flakey deliciousness!

PERFECT!

Absolute genius!:thumbsup2

It's a short update as well, now I'm ahead of Mary Ellen and she has to catch up with her morning.

Wow, I feel like I'm traveling through time in these chapters!:rotfl:

I'm not sure I could ever do a red eye, but I sure understand NOT wanting to lose an entire day.

You ARE my friend with the Starbucks cup in hand. :)

What a perfect solution...the Cronut and then something from one of the booths. You could not have picked a better choice.

I love your photopass pic of just you...so pretty.

I can definitely see the benefit of a red eye flight going in that direction. Landing at 9:40am sounds just about right. I am one that likes the early flights just so I can arrive early and take advantage of the almost full day. :)

And yes, I am the same way. Steer clear until I get my coffee. You have been warned, lol.

That's too bad that the direct red eye flight is limited to a few days - layovers are never fun. (Especially that early in the morning! :crazy2: )

STARBUCKS! Thank goodness for coffee. :worship:

You do have a BEAUTIFUL view from your room.

I look forward to seeing what you thought of the cronut! :-)

:welcome: home Cynthia!!!

I didn't know you purchased your ticket on Mother's Day! Cool!

And we DO meet up very soon!

Oh, yeah, I also had a ST when I met a couple of DIS/BC friends locally, so yes, I think most bartenders will make the drink if you are able to provide the recipe.

That's so awesome. I am fixated on that drink now and absolutely must have one. I think its because I have almost completely stopped drinking during my PHM training. It just doesn't seem worth to have an alcohol floating around in my system. But that is about to change as soon as the phi is done!

Yup, calling for another "blizzard" here Saturday into Sunday. Another foot to 18 inches here. Fortunately, Monday morning looks clear so far (fingers crossed)

OMG. I know! I am just watching the news now and you guys are getting slammed again. :faint:

Big problem is finding a place to put all the snow we have, and getting around. Tuesday Mark didn't go into work because all the trains into Boston were not running. They are up and running again, but random trains keep getting cancelled. On Wednesday morning, his train didn't have lights or heat. But at least it was moving. Driving into the city is worse. :cold:

I saw that as well - pictures of snow in the ocean. Crazy. What a night mare it must be to try to commute and you guys are used to snow. Ugh! I am sure there are a lot of people just staying home.

That sounds like a very rough travel day. Your Mother's Day sounds lovely but you must have been ready for some sleep by the time you got on the plane.

This is the third time I met up with Cynthia after a red eye and she always seems full of energy. It's pretty impressive actually.

We are the people getting on the plane at 6am, excited about going to Disney. ;) I tend to sleep on the plane, since I have to wake up at 3am for the flight. But there are always cheery, chatting people around me on these early morning flights.:coffee:

Gotta keep that adrenaline going. I don't even try for really early morning flights because I never sleep well the night before. I rather get up at a more respectable hour. :rotfl:

I have the same problem with sugar and usually avoid it on an empty stomach. A serving of bacon usually fixes that problem, though. ;)

Me too! I am all about matching sugars with protein.

I'd love to get a couple in over there before we leave but 2 might be pushing it, we will see. I'll update the other PTR on Monday as usual.

You have another PTR? Did I miss that? :confused3 If so I am total loser!

Good luck with helping your parents clean out their house. That is definitely going to take up some time.

Yay for Fatburger and time to do a update. That worked out well. :thumbsup2

I have no idea why I ran that far back in May when the half wasn't till almost Sept, guess I just wanted to? Or that it was lovley out and mothers day and I could? No clue. Hmmmm - maybe something was inaccurate. It does seem weird that you slowed down, especially with all the additional training and experience you have.

Oh we have them, just not red eyes except for fri/sat. Our red eye is odd in a different way. We leave really early, like 5pm so get into MCO BEFORE 5am...which is a bit too early in my book. So score score there! No weather delays and sleepy west coasters. Sounds perfect to me. And plenty of time to snooze until your reach your destination!

I am so glad you liked it and WOW the hidden bonus of the SSR trail link being right there. That was amazing!

That was SO cool! The best of the both worlds because I really love the trails through SSR, but I prefer the loading at OKW. I would definitely stay in that same location again.

Nope, not wrong. Jeff doesn't care for them. Then again he is not big on either sugar donuts or croissants. He likes the gut bomb old fashioneds!

I love sugar donuts AND croissants so the cronut should have been a total score for me. I still can't believe it wasn't. :scratchin:earseek:

Caught up!

YAY! popcorn::

I was so excited to see Pat and I was shocked to see Marv with her. Totally didn't see that coming. :rotfl2: So, yes, it was worth the extra shopping to have that surprise.

:thumbsup2 Packing for an entire family is pretty rough. I really don't miss those days! :rotfl2:

And again, yes! I am the same way about breakfast, too. It's too much effort to cook a big breakfast when you're the last one to sit down and eat and everyone else is already finished. A cronut sounds like the perfect solution to your meal problem. You'll still get to be in the parks with the others all while satisfying that craving. Hope it worked out!

It worked out really well because we all got to see Cynthia that much sooner, so YAY! :flower:

I can't imagine those red eyes but I know its the best way to fly. Flying east just sucks up the whole day even when I try to get the first flight of the day. Glad you got there on time and on your way to meet up with everyone and get your Cronut! The cronut is on my list of delicacies to try in October!

Jill in CO

Flying East DOES suck. And I live in the East, but I have always preferred flying west over east whenever I used to fly out west to ski.

I can totally understand that feeling!

But it's going to be a LONG time before you actually get to experience that feeling. Just sayin! :rolleyes1

Absolute genius!:thumbsup2

Sort of like a combo between a hot dog and a hamburger?.....And then again, maybe not! :teeth:

Wow, I feel like I'm traveling through time in these chapters!:rotfl:

Are we going too fast for you? Don't worry. We'll be slowing down soon enough!

Cynthia I'm glad you finally made it safe and sound, and with coffee!

Nice on the surprise DISmeet MEK!

I love travel with the family; but nothing beats being by yourself and not having the worry about anyone else. Still....it is nice to have someone else around to help keep an eye on the carry-on stuff when you want to look around the terminal.

Glad you made it safe and sound!

@MEK: Sounds like a lovely evening with Rosie and Carol! I was lucky to meet them a few years ago during one of their escorts trips - actually the same trip that I met Marv for the first time! They are really lovely, I wish we would have been able to spend more time with them! But I am glad that their strange behaviour had a really good reason! You must have been really surprised. I have to say that when I found out about them, I was only surprised for a brief moment, knowing them both from the DIS, I thought they are a great fit - same type of humor! :goodvibes But then I also had the advantage of learning about it in an email and not by them suddenly standing in front of me! :faint:

@eandesmom : I can understand your reasons for the red eye, but being forced to do red eye flights back to Europe all the time, I just can't understand why anyone would choose them voluntarily... :scared1: They always suck all energy out of me! But maybe with only a three hour time difference they might be less horrible...

caught up...the lovely new Dis wasn't giving me notifications for a while.

What a nice surprise to see Pat!

Great start, Cynthia!
I keep forgetting how lucky I am to only be one hour ahead of Disney time, so there's no real adjustment for me. I understand the benefit of the red-eye though, that helped us when we went to Europe.
YAY! You arrived! Sounds like everything went smoothly!

Woohoo! And you'd made it to Epcot - great arrival picture! :thumbsup2 The last two trips I've tried to arrive as early as humanly possible so I have that much more of the day at Disney - I would do the same as you if I lived on the West coast... red eye all the way! Besides, that's what coffee is for anyway, right?! I'm excited to hear all about the reunion with Mary Ellen! Also... cannot believe you'll soon be running under the sign. :worship:

Good point about how much easier it is to travel solo! I've gotten used to trips with a toddler now, but had a work trip last fall and packing for just me was SO easy! :rotfl: I kept feeling like I must have forgotten something, since I needed so little.

Ugh, I think a redeye would be a tough way to start a WDW trip, especially with a layover like that. Makes me feel better about being in the midwest - only a 4 hour flight, so not terrible (though we do lose an hour).

Ha, we've been talking all about Cronuts in my TR lately, now you are too. I ate a day-old one, so need a re-do with a fresh one next trip. ::yes::

MEK and Cynthia,

I"m still way back a few pages where MEK updated. And I must say, I"m officially jealous that you all got to have such a GREAT meet up with Marv, Pat, and Rosie and Carol! How fun!!!

I am kinda hoping all that construction mess is over and done with before my trip.

Promise I'll catch up with your post Cynthia! Hopefully tomorrow or Monday. :)
