Don't quit! If they fire you, you will probably be able to collect unemployment because they did not fire your "for cause".Off to work in an hour, wish me luck. I am not going to quit, but if they fire me, then heck Ill have the holidays off. ANd more time to prepare for my interviews. I want to quit so bad, but I need the paycheck.
.

I get this, but somewhere along the line the OP said "yes" to all of those conditions....
As for the other job -- if it pays less than what you want, DON'T TAKE IT. Tell them, thank you, but that's not adequate compensation for the job you want me to do. Stop just accepting what people give you without pushing back.

This is not a place I will stay, especially now that I see how high the turnover and burnout rate is. Plus I am working some nights and some days, and it is making me a zombie. I cant do both!
):I havent been loving my new job, for those of you that have seen my prev posts. They job I was offered is not the job I got and the pay is lower and instead of days I was put on nights due to staffing issues. I have been interviewing and looking elswehere. I have been checking off the "NO" in the "May we contact your current employer" box and for explanation I have explained that I plan to give adequate notice but have not told them I am leaving yet. Well yesterday I had an interview that went really well. She asked me about my current job, I explained in simple terms, not a good fit, will tell them when I plan to leave. Well she called me today and apologized profusely for having called them. She said it was an accident and that they were very upset to hear I was looking elswhere. She said they were checking dates & references and her assistant accidentally called the one I had checked NO to. She told me to be prepared that they are understandably upset. While I appreciate her calling to warn me, I have to work tomorrow. Ugh. It is going to be a difficult day tomorrow I am hoping I dont get fired. On the other hand, the other place seems to be prepared to make me an offer but it appears as though it will pay much less than what I make now. UGH. And I do not have the offer in hand yet. I am so frustrated. This will be the icing on the cake for a job I already dread.

They didn't do this on accident. Nice of her to warn you, but a bitter pill to swallow if there is no offer. Sending good wishes.
My df thinks this is her way of getting me to accept her lower offer. She had mentioned that their offer will be lower than what I currently make. Our conversation today ended with " I am so sorry, I have never had this happen before, but you will have something in writing from us by Monday at the latest"
But she sounded sincere and embarrased. I dont know this is what I get for being honest, I was going to leave my current job off my resume and not tell anyone about it since I have only been there a few months.
No kidding. I'd say "Of course I'm looking. You offered me one job and gave me another. You offered me one pay rate and gave me another. You offered me one shift and gave me another. What on earth makes you think I'd be happy with you?"
I relocated here for this job offer, and signed a lease. So I am stuck with it until I find something else. That doesnt mean I accepted their crap, it means I am taking it until I can find something better which will be sooner rather than later. Are you one of those evil HR people that makes all the promises & then doesnt deliver? Because from your post I am guessing you are.
I have 2 interviews next week and I did recieve 2 more messages from the job that sold me out today, an apology vm from the assistant and another from the interviewer stating that the offer letter will be in my inbox by close of business, which I think is 5pm?

NPmommie- New grads dont have much bargaining power these days, but I am def going to counter offer if the offer is too low. I think the quality of life at the other job would be better, but the commute will be tough. Id rather make less and be happy, but I still need anough to pay the bills.
Got the offer letter! It is a lot less money but starts with 5 weeks pto whereas now I get one. The insurance & beneftis are WAY better. Remember that there is more to compnsation than salary. The two things you mention as being better (PTO & insurance) do have a monetary "value". And the quality of life will be so much better! Also important. I do have 2 more interviews next week so I am on the fence. How long is acceptable to consider an offer? You have a little leeway with Thanksgiving in the mix, but don't leave them hanging too long. I am going to counter and ask for a little more money and see where that goes, she basically told me to "try" when she called me about the offer letter (which btw came after 6pm). Doesn't hurt to try.
DisneyDoll- you called it! lol. Haha she said all of those things, how dissapointed they are, how they want to work with me to make it better. The whole this wont look good on your resume bit. I wish I read your post before I went in, I would have giggled through her whole speech. Told ya...they are all the same. I told her days or nights, not both. She said there is nothing she can do until they hire & train more staff and she mentioned the holiday schedule several times. I think you are spot on with the after Jan 1 thing. I am pretty sure I am. I hopefully wont be there to see. I hope not either.
I dont mind paying my dues at a new job, but I will not be taken advantage of and this is not the deal we made when I took the job. There is a reason the turnover is so high and none of the staff stay. Experienced nurses leave during orientation, us newbies are the ones that try to stick it out until we realize it is a mistake. Not worth risking the license I worked so hard to get, the staffing levels are dangerous. if they didnt lie to get us in the door and promise us the moon, they woudnt get anyone to work there. That's too bad.
