Oh, Colt...

Not a fan of Texas, but that does stink that he got hurt. :guilty:

Colt McCoy gave a great speech. He showed real class tonight. I hope whatever his injury is that it heals quickly and he can go on to a successful career. TX put up a hell of a fight tonight and have nothing to be embarssed about. Congratulations to TX fans you made it to the final 2. That's alot more than other teams did.

My heart went out to Colt during that interview, what a great response he gave. I hope his injury heals, sounds like nerve damage. :(

Gilbert has a bright future ahead of him.

Congrats to Bama!!

While I am an Alabama fan and am very happy that Bama won, I do believe that Colt McCoy handled himself with class, diginity, and good sportsmanship tonight. I wish that he had not gotten hurt. I think the best game is played when both teams are healthy and whole, even if the outcome is not my preference. Texas played a hard-fought game. I was very impressed with their young QB in the 2nd half. He has a bright future ahead of him!

I also think that Mark Ingram is a class act. He gives credit to his team and acknowledges that winning is a team effort. It's great to see Bama back on top after some really rough years.

I am not necessarily an Alabama fan, I am a LSU fan that pulls for the SEC team in games like this. (I am especially a Tebow fan! ) However, I found myself cheering for Texas after halftime. I felt so sorry for Gilbert being thrown into this situation. Wow! What a tough game to get that opportunity! He did a great job, though! Both teams played with class and I am happy for both of them. I was very impressed with McCoy's interview at the end. He seemed genuine to me. Even the TV commentators said he was begging to go back in but everyone told him not to do so. I agree with another post that it sounds like nerve damage. I hope he heals and has a bright future in the NFL! Congrats to both teams! It was a great game!

I'm so bored with the SEC, and bored with the crazy fans especially. If McCoy had played, Bama would have been spanked.

Sorry Texas, I was rooting for you guys. Hope you kick butt next year! :cheer2:

I am a Bama fan because my sister went there. But I have to admit, I felt so bad for Gilbert that every time one of the receivers dropped a ball I would scream at the tv "catch the bleep ball". My dh looked at me and asked "who are you rooting for" and I had to say "I don't know".

Once I saw McCoy's father go back to the locker room I knew he wasn't coming back. There is no way his father was going to let him risk a multi-million dollar career, even for the BCS national championship. And I don't mean that in a bad way, it's probably what any parent would do.

The game got exciting in the fourth quarter. And I hope Gilbert goes on to have a great career at Texas.

Here come the excuses...

If the Texas QB had stayed in the entire game how can you say that Texas would've "spanked" Alabama? IF he had been in the whole game then the whole game would've been different. The Alabama Defense would adjust to having him in the entire game vs him not being there. It is impossible to determine the outcome on IFs and Buts. I think that these were two very good teams and last night just happen to fall Alabama's way. If they played today the outcome may be different.

Excuses? I think McCoy's leaving the game was a decisive event in Bama's favor. It was quite obvious that hurt them. If it had been McElroy leaving the game and being replaced by a freshman, and Bama had lost, what would you say? Ingram needs to win the game for them?

Believe me, I don't dislike Bama. I thoroughly enjoyed their spanking of Florida. :thumbsup2 DH has family ties, so it's one of the two SEC teams I root for--but Kentucky is worthless in football. I just thought before the game that Texas was going to win, and I was rooting for the Longhorns. I happen to like them and the Big 12, even though Texas beat my team (Ohio State) last year in the Fiesta Bowl.

Good point. Any given day, etc. :) I just think a lot of Texas's defense, and Texas's offense put them in poor situations.

I posted this on another thread too, but I read an article on ESPN this morning that Alabama's QB played with two broken ribs last night. Alabama just kept it quiet that McElroy had two ribs broken in the 3rd quarter of the SEC Championship. He said he was in a lot of pain last night. It made me feel bad for yelling at him last night! It also explains his lack of pass attempts, and I cringe at the thought of all those sacks with broken ribs. OUCH!

I agree with previous posters that the game would have been different if Colt McCoy had played the entire game. But I don't agree that it automatically means that Texas would've won. If you know anything about this year's Bama team, you could see that they totally adjusted their defense down after McCoy was out. They would've played differently if he had stayed in. It still could've gone either way, but don't try to make Alabama so one-dimensional.

I was rooting for Texas (and this is coming from a Gator fan). Very dissapointing to see Colt out for the game but did Texas ever play a good game against them with a freshman QB! Very impressive.

Thanks for your diagnosis, lillygator, but you are incorrect.

Colt McCoy had a brachial plexopathy. He was hit in precisely the right spot to temporarily damage or disrupt the brachial plexus, a bundle of nerves that run from the base of the neck to the muscles of the arm. So although he was not in pain, he had no motor control. His father was brought to the locker room so that Colt could pitch some passes to him. When he was unable to control his throws, which all sailed wide, they knew he would not be able to play.

I guess the wine must have also taken away your compassion also.

I have this type of injury. While it is rarely painful, when it flares up, it does not feel good either. For me it is like someone hit me in the funny bone, my whole arm feels weird and I lose a lot of my grip strength in that hand. If this is what Colt had, I hope he gets some good PT and is able to fully recover from it.

McCoy did play. For the second straight week, his line couldn't protect him. This time, he got hurt and missed the rest of the game.

If quarterbacks didn't get hurt, Bradford and OU would have been playing instead of Texas. Injuries are part of the game. It's a shame that a great player like Colt was hurt, but that's football.

The reason that the longhorns wins as often as it does is because God gets tired of listening to all the whiny excuses of their fans.

Return to Original Buzz up! PrintPASADENA, Calif. – Colt McCoy lined up about 7 yards from his dad, Brad. This was inside the Texas locker room underneath the Rose Bowl bleachers, the Longhorns quarterback missing the biggest game of his career, about to attempt the most important throw of his life.

Colt had the ball and was going to pass it to his dad as a slew of doctors and trainers watched closely. How many times had these two thrown a football back and forth, from their yard in little Tuscola, Texas, to the practice fields of Jim Ned High School, where the dad was the coach and the son was the star?

“Millions,” Colt said. “Millions of times.”

Colt had just lied to the Texas doctors and said that he was capable of returning to the BCS title game against Alabama. A hit by the Tide’s Marcell Dareus, on the fifth play of the game, had sent him to this locker room. He wanted back out there. So he tried to sound convincing despite the fact his arm felt “like a noodle.”

He hadn’t come this far to sit. Colt McCoy was going to lead Texas to the championship. He believed this. He’d always believed this. When he went down, he said, “We were about to dominate.” They weren’t going to lose, not where the Longhorns had last won a championship in 2005, not against a team against whom they’d never lost, certainly not 37-21, as the scoreboard would show after 60 minutes.

Yet on the TV in the corner, he had seen it all fade away in his absence. Alabama was rolling; Texas’ early lead was long gone.

So Colt gripped the ball, stared at his dad and thought, “It’s just a simple throw.” He threw. The ball went soft and wide. Everyone grimaced. “Give it to me again,” Colt demanded. Brad got the ball and gave it back to his son. The next throw was the same, bouncing harmlessly away. “Give it to me again,” Colt said, again. Brad did.

It was the same. It was over. Colt couldn’t throw it 7 yards to his own father. “My arm was dead,” he said. The dad hugged his son. The son broke down and cried.

“There’s no pain on my body,” Colt said later. “If I was a free safety, I’d go out there and make a tackle. I [just] have no strength to throw a football.”

You could see his arm dangling around.

He was brought back out for morale and to support Gilbert and did a good job at that. But, if you paying attention, you'd notice that all the high-fives and pats on the back that he was giving out were all done with his left arm.

Since SEC fans are being discussed on another thread I did want to point out what a classy gracious post this is from a Bama fan.

You can be happy, thrilled even, that your team won without bashing the opposing team.

neither do you.

regardless -if can do x on the sidelines, he can do x on the field.

My daughter is a college athletic trainer, and we had this discussion last night. My SIL & I let him go back in; she says no way. She says you don't know if he can even raise his right arm, let alone throw the ball. Point for her. She says what happens if you let him back in and he gets hit again? I'm pretty sure he would--another point for her. Did anyone see him raise his right arm, or even fist pump with his right hand, when he was cheering the team on? I didn't. If he has hopes of being drafted (whether he can be a successful NFL QB is another matter entirely), he needs to be healthy for the NFL combine. Sprains take a long time to heal. We're talking about a career vs. a national championship. She's the expert, so she gets the benefit of the doubt. I'm a Texas alum and I'm heartbroken, but it was the right thing to do.

Gilbert has a heck of an arm, and I think he's going to be a really good one! He just had precious few reps during the season. If the injury had happened closer to the half, I think we see a totally different game. They just didn't have a chance to mentally re-group that early on. It is too bad it took nearly two quarters for Greg Davis to decide to let Gilbert play to his strengths. Mack Brown and Will Muschamp are master motivators, and even if we had been behind going into the halftime (although I question we would have been), I think the Horns win. I honestly didn't expect to win, but it could have been done--even with Gilbert.

And can I say how much I hate coaches that run up the score? Alabama had nothing to prove at that point. They had the game won. They had won the national championship. What the heck was the point? Bragging rights?? :sad2:

:rotfl: I don't think--what, 5 snaps?--is really playing.

BTW, I'm an Ohio State fan who happened to be rooting for Texas because the Buckeyes have played them in big games over the last few years, so don't worry about me "whining" about the Longhorns. ;)

Hopefully Oklahoma can get things together this season, go to the championship game and win it--unless the Buckeyes go, of course. :cheer2: I like Bradford a lot, and was sorry he got hurt too. I like the Big 12 more than the SEC, and would rather see one of their teams win. If the Sooners had played Bama last night, I'd have rooted for them. :thumbsup2

I posted earlier that it was the "right" decision to keep Colt out. Since reading this morning that he couldn't feel his right arm, I now know that it was the "only" decision. He is such an awesome young man and 100% a team player. Heartbreaking :sad1:
