Oh, Colt...

I posted earlier that it was the "right" decision to keep Colt out. Since reading this morning that he couldn't feel his right arm, I now know that it was the "only" decision. He is such an awesome young man and 100% a team player. Heartbreaking :sad1:

I feel so bad for him, I can't even begin to imagine how sad/upset/brokenhearted he must be. I wish I could give him a big:hug:

I don't really have a dog in this fight ( Go big 10!) but the attitude and comments made by some Bama fans on this post is pretty disgusting. You have no idea what this young man was dealing with as far as pain or lack of motor control, and to sit in judgement of him is just plain unsportsmanlike. If you are all examples of what the SEC is all about, I am apalled!

And it really makes me wish Bama had lost. If most of their fans are like you, you don't deserve the win. Too bad you can be more like your Heisman Trophy winner, and show some grace.

What did Colt say? I was rooting for Texas, sad to see Colt go out and very proud of the team for hanging in there and fighting hard. They played an awesome 3rd quarter.

I don't believe Bama would have won if Colt was in.

Here's a link to the interview. It brought tears to my eyes. It's nice to see a young man so proud to be a Christian. He was gracious and humble, IMHO.

Here's part of what he said.....

"I love this game, I have a passion for this game, I've done everything I can to contribute to my team and we made it this far and it's unfortunate that I didn't get to play. I would have given everything I had to be out there with my team. Congratulations to Alabama, I love the way our team fought...Garrett Gilbert played as well as he could play, he did a tremendous job. I always give God the glory, I'd never question why things happen the way they do. God is in control of my life and if nothing else I know I'm standing on The Rock.":thumbsup2

I don't think you guys are giving Gilbert enough credit, the poor kid. A freshman being pulled up in the National game? I felt so bad for him, you know when he was told to go out and cover for Colt he probably almost fainted. I was rooting for Alabama, but I still got excited when he threw that touchdown pass. I really respect Colt for keeping his pads and everything on, I know it had to hurt even though he said it didn't.

And I'm going to go out and say it since a lot of people are indirectly insulting me, the insults for the SEC fans are getting obnoxious. If it was the other way around, Texas fans would be running around gloating about how they won (And I think it would be a lot worse). Yeah, you lost. It sucks. It's a part of life we can't avoid. Alabama proved to be a better team and it was bad when Colt got his shoulder popped out. It's just something that happens, especially when you're up against Alabama's line of defense. Even if Colt was still in and he threw some amazing passes, it doesn't matter if your offensive line can't protect your QB. Sorry, but it's true.

Nope, I wouldn't be gloating -- very proud and excited, yes, but gloating, no way. I certainly wouldn't go looking for a thread in which to criticize the losing team. And, FYI, the Texas OL has been suspect all year--it's nothing new. Bottom line is, no one knows who would have won had Colt not gone out. That's a fact.

And BTW, I thought Garrett Gilbert did an amazing job under the circumstances. I think he had thrown maybe 20 passes in the very limited playing time he had during the season. He has tremendous athletic ability, but I don't know enough about him yet to make any judgments about his character and leadership ability.

What insults to the SEC fans are you referring to?

As I understand it, that really isn't Alabama's decision. Dr. Pepper is the sponsor of the trophy, and they have a deal with Walmart to display the trophy in a couple of Walmart stores following the game. I think it would have been displayed in Texas Walmarts instead had they won the game.

I live in the heart of Alabama country and I'm not an Alabama fan. Some Alabama fans (and some fans of the other large SEC schools) can be very obnoxious. However, there are plenty of SEC fans who are good sports and who are not rude and obnoxious. As with most groups, the people with the worst attitudes tend to be the most vocal. I hope anyone who judges all SEC fans by the most vocal amoung us is prepared to be lumped in with the loudest and most obnoxious of your peers, as well.
