Hi Everyone,

We live about 2 hours from the coast and we are being told to preprpare for ivan. We are right on the mississippi alabama border. They said we will 45-60 mps winds and 12 inches of rain and lots of thunder storms. We have a new house being built and we are worried this will delay it more. Most all we are worried for our own and everyone elses safety. Wish us luck and we wish everyone else luck espcially those on the coast. Told the eye will pass near us Thursday with the bad weather starting wednesday night. Send us pixie dust.

Thanks Matt:(

Sending you tons of Pixie Dust! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Unless the Ivan drops in strength significantly, you will probably face winds stronger than 45-50 MPH. Our news in Bham reported this mid-day that Ivan would still be hurricane strength when it comes through Montgomery (isn't that 75+ winds?). Were you around in '95 with Opal? We had 60+ MPH winds in Birmingham so please be prepared for stronger winds than 50 mph. Of course each news report has it moving farther west so it may end up in Louisiana or Texas before it actually hits land and then that would change how it affects Alabama. If it stays around Miss and Ala then we are definately going to get alot of rain and wind.

Matt, I feel for you and I'm with you...unfortunately! As the projected path shows now, my city is going to take a direct hit from Ivan. :( Our city is out of bottled water and batteries already. Thank goodness I got mine before they were all gone. I filled up with gas, got my non-perishable food items, and am ready. Good luck to everyone in Ivan's path. I hope he decides to downgrade.

Well, to be honest, I'm glad it's not coming my way (we had 12 inches of rain with Frances). Sorry it's headed towards you though! I wouldn't wish it on anyone! Something I learned during Frances that worked for me was - if you have ice in a bag, put it in a cooler (leave it in the bag) and cover the top with several layers of tin foil. Tuck the tin foil in around the sides and bottom. It lasts a lot longer that way. We were out of power for 5 days! Good luck!!

Good Luck! Hope he peters out!!!!!

I hope you plan on evacuating. All the pixie dust in the world isn't going to help you if you are that close to the eye.

The weather reports are worse for us today. The eye is projected to go father west which means it will be 40-50 miles from us. So thats means the eye will be close. Now they tell to expect hurricane force winds with gusts as high as 100 mph!! This is really our first hurricane since we just moved here from california. We have been through hurricanes while visiting florida and when we lived in massachusetts but not this bad. They still say 12 inches of rain! Mom is going out now to get stuff to keep us alive during the hurricane. Supposedly school is canceled for thursday. We arent evacuating since we are inland dont expect to be as bad off as those down on the gulf but i know it will still be bad. I am crossing my fingers we are all safe. Pixies dust to everyone else in mean Frances path.
Matt:D
