My fiance and I have been thinking long and hard about this and it just seems weird to go meet someone that you randomly pick from a list and have them perform your ceremony. We are NOT traditional people and want our wedding to be a little different and not stuffy and 'normal.' We thought it would be kind of cool to have someone we really care about (such as my fiance's father) get ordained online (IE Joey on Friends :rotfl: ) and perform our ceremony. It would mean SO MUCH more if it was someone who cared about us and that we knew. Would they let us do that? Is it totally insane to think about doing it? Has anyone else ever done that? Please don't think we're weird :goodvibes

On the other hand, we are believers in God and it would be important to have a minister (who is a man/woman of God) perform the ceremony. I don't know if it would seem more like we had God's approval (if that makes any sense.)

So we're torn ;)

Maybe you can meet with one of the ministers when you have your planning session so you could feel more comfortable with them?? And yes I believe that you can provide your own minister etc. so as long as your fiance's father was certified/ordained then I don't see why it would be an issue really. I have heard of other people doing the same thing so it is not weird at all. Also I belive in Florida all someone needs to do to marry someone is to become a notary and that takes about 6 weeks.

You can provide your own officiant, several girls on this board have done that. I would check with the court house in FL to make sure they have the right credentials for your marriage to be legal.

I think all of the officiants on Disney's list would be willing to meet with you, either other the phone or when you are in Disney is possible so that you can become more comfortable. Also, watching the sample videos from the various videographers is a great way to get a sense of an officiant's style.

Oh, good idea!

first of all, you are allowed to bring an officiant. it tells you on the site.

second of all, i really don't think God cares who marry's you, so long as you're happy about everything! he's there, he knows what's going on, it's YOUR day....he could care less he just wants everyone happy!

Thanks, I know that, but it just felt like people would think we were weird. I don't know!! I did watch some of the videos and I like the grandfathery style of Jack Day, but someone mentioned he narrates the whole wedding to you while he's doing it and it's distracting. :confused3

Ok this doesn't answer your questions, but I wanted to share that about two weeks ago, my BF asked if I want to bring my pastor with us to do the ceremony. I was really excited that he gave me that option, since we'll pay for her airfare and hotel! I can't wait to ask her! But I'm still waiting for the engagement. I hope she says yes.

Not married at Disney but we had DH's best friends FIL marry us.

Just my 2 cents, I also chose Rev. Jack for his "grandfatherly" style and we were extremely happy with him. I honestly cannot remember him narrating our ceremony like that. I mean, I'm not saying it's impossible (we didn't get a video done so I can't say) but all I remember about our ceremony is how wonderful it was, how intimate, how in love we both felt. I couldn't even tell you what music was playing or anything! It was just too romantic and I was totally lost in the moment of marrying my wonderful hubby :cloud9:

Thanks!!! These boards are so amazing, but they can also be an achyles (sp?) heal. Sometimes you can get too many opinions and then it makes it impossible to make a choice ;) When you hear an equal number of positive and negative comments it's hard to know what to do!

Good to know... I would love if a priest could perform a catholic ceremony, but I know that wont happen.. I hope it will work out for you :surfweb:

We actually had my brother ordained for our ceremony (Just like Joey in friends..lol)....it was a wonderful personal touch and our guests really liked the idea that the ceremony was so original.... Also to make Grandma happy we did have our priest bless our marriage at sunday service after the honeymoon.....

I was also concerned that it would seem impersonal if someone who doesn't know us married us. It was also important to me that our minister be a Christian. Here's what I did: I watched some demo videos to see whose style I liked the best. I chose Rev. Jack Day. I then contacted him and received his packet of sample ceremonies. I then scheduled a follow up phone call with him to discuss what we're looking for and how important it was to us that our ceremony have a Christian focus. He was wonderful and took lots of time with us on the phone to be sure he understood exactly what we wanted. He was the perfect choice for us, and he had a ceremony that suited us perfectly with only a few minor tweaks here and there. He did a great job, and I highly recommend him. I know exactly what you mean that hearing so many opinions can make it hard to choose--sometimes you've just got to go with your gut, LOL.

SRUAlmn - I know what you mean! Part of me wished I'd found these boards long before our wedding, but another part of me is glad I found them just before, when it was too late to change anything - because there are so many options and opinions!! If I'd read bad reviews about Rev. Jack I would have been worried the whole time, and in the end he was perfect for us. Best of luck in finding your perfect officiant ::yes::

My fiance and I are using Rev Jack Day for our wedding this November. After all the reviews I am somewhat worried. There are plenty of you who had a good experience though- wish me luck.

I love your idea of doing a "friends" & getting a friend ordained on line, i think that would make it extra special having someone you both know & care for joining you together & kick starting your married life. Id go for it :thumbsup2 , i love unique ideas & think thats what makes the day unique to you both.
