Official Wine & Dine 2014

I haven't read the whole thread yet, but wanted to jump in and say hi :wave2: I ran Wine & Dine last year and had a really wonderful time and am signed up for it again this year. I'm already working on my costume and on getting my weight down and my speed up so I can finish faster and get to the food & wine festival booths sooner! Looking forward to reading along!

Haha I love your thinking!!

Second question is about the pre-race party at HS. I see that it opens at 6pm but until what time? Is all of HS open or is it confined to the Lights Motor Stunt Show area?

rundisney shows:

Disney Wine & Dine Pre-Race Taste

Friday, November 7, 2014 Time: 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Location: Lights, Motors, Action!® Extreme Stunt Show® inside Disney's Hollywood Studios®

I am not doing this (not risking random food with my sensitive stomach, even if it's 24 hours before the race according to that), but if I were I would NOT expect it to go behind the Stunt Show area.

This is our first time running the wine & dine and I'm so excited! It's also our first run Disney! We're staying at all star movies booked through rundisney and I noticed two items on our reservation... Anyone know what these are?

They're just coupons that you'll get upon arrival.

Hi everyone,
I apparently joined way back in 2008 and I'm only just getting back on here. LOL. I just ran Princess (it was my 1st half and my 1st runDisney race). Hubby and I (and our 10 y.o. son) are AP holders and live about 30 minutes from Disney. Since I survived Princess I thought I'd sign up for W&D and I manged to convince several of my friends to do it with me! One concern, I don't typically run at night. How important would you say it is to train at night? I'm a scaredy-cat and don't like the thought of running in the dark(I'm a klutz) alone (for obivous reasons).

Also, we got hubby the after-party ticket. Is he able to go into the park (I think they said 7, right?), come out to watch me finish, and then go back in? Or would it be better for him to watch me run through the park and just wait for me inside EPCOT?

One last question (TIA BTW), is it a pain to stay at a non-host resort and drive ourselves in? Anyone have experience with this who could recommend times?

Thanks!!
Bridie

As far as the "night training", during the week, I head out right after work (around 5) and on the weekends, I usually do my long run on Saturday mornings. I've trained this way since I did my first W&D in 2012 and I've never had a problem. Even if you're a morning runner, I think the adrenaline and energy of the whole weekend is enough to keep you going. Just don't overdo walking through the parks before Saturday night, and you shoukd be just fine.

The hubby can go in and out of Epcot, but the finish is always a pretty chaotic place. I would suggest having a place to meet him afterwards. My "road crew" usually waits for me right by the walkway between the Land and the character photo stop and then I meet the DH right inside the park entrance. It works fine every year and seeing those guys with about .2 to go, always gives me a great burst of energy for that final kick! :cool1:

I've never stayed at a host resort (always at one of the DTD resorts), and it's never been a problem. We just park at Epcot, hop the bus to WWoS, and drive back afterwards. Just make sure someone doesn't drink too much! :rotfl2:

Hi April! :wave2: Glad to see I'm not the only one alreay working on her costume! :rotfl:

Hi, i've signed up for the W&D this year. This will be my first 1/2 and also my first runDisney. I'm very excited. I have lots of questions but first just about the costumes. I know for the big marathon weekend and princess races people do dress up in costume running themes. Is that done for this race too? And is there a set theme or just anything Disney? I really wanted to dress at least in a princess color or theme, but didn't want to stand out. I was also wondering about the resort stay too because we are DVC members and would prefer to stay where we normally do, but I'm not sure if it's a "race" resort (I guess from reading above that doesn't matter). Thank you!

Do they run trams out to the parking lot during the after-party? Chances are good that I'll be at a non-host resort, so I'm wondering how the parking situation works, too.

Are there taxis outside after the race? We're staying at AOA and wondering how to get back to the hotel when we're done

My thought was, we could make our way to a host resort to get on a bus to the race but have no clue how to get back after. Poor planning on my part!

Sorry, I forgot to quote before I hit reply...

I can't recall trams after the after party. But I cannot ever recall using the trams at Epcot, so I generally ignore them.

I do recall seeing plenty of taxis after the party though.

And you don't need to find your way to a host hotel, you can just go to Epcot. There will be buses to WWoS from there, just as from the Host Resorts.

It can be a little easier to stay at a Host Resort, but not imperative or completely necessary.

There are costumes at this race. Not as many as during the Princess or Marathon Weekend, but there are costumes--and I've seen more each year.

Most definitely YES! You wouldn't believe how creative people can be with their costume ideas. Last year an entire "haren" walked by! i have no idea how they were going to run in those costumes - all those jingly things would have made me crazy inside of a minute. Believe me, the last thing you're going to do is stick out. :goodvibes

I don't remember if there were any trams as we just walked back to our car. :scratchin Sorry!

Yes! You may want to check at the hotel also. Ours said if we wanted taxi service, just call the front desk and they would send a car. I don't know if the Disney resorts offer the same service though.

No worries - this is just as helpful! :thumbsup2 I'm semi-local so drive to EP a lot... and have wound up in the faaaaaar reaches of the back lots and trust V - that is not a place I want to walk to after running a half, lol! The fact that you guys don't remember thinking you might die on the walk is good news. :rotfl:

Ok, maybe just repeating, but I want to be sure (i've never done this before).

We start race at WWoS and end at Epcot.

Leave our car at Epcot pre-race and then take a shuttle to WWoS? then we finish at Epcot and drive away from there?

Is there information available about this whole thing? Like something from Disney?

Per the Runner's Information section on runDisney's site about the Wine & Dine:

Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon

Start: ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
Finish: Epcot®
10:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2014

And from the FAQ->Transportation section:

Q - What if I am not staying at a host resort?
A - No transportation will be provided for guests staying at a non-host resort even if it is on Walt Disney World property. Parking will be available at Epcot® ONLY. Parking will not be available at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Guests will take a shuttle from Epcot® to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

I've stayed at a host resort, driven my own car, and stayed at Boardwalk (walked home) for the Wine & Dine. Each has there perks and drawbacks. This year we are anticipating staying at Kidani, so we will be driving back after the party.

AOA is connected by a bridge to Pop Century , which is a Host resort. It's a fairly easy walk from pop to aoa. Just hop onto the Pop Century bus after to get back!

We're staying at AOA too, and are planning just to walk over to Pop and take the bus from there. Seems easier than worrying about driving back (or walking to the car) after the race and after-party. ;)

I need an opinion. I ran the last 10k I can to improve my placement for this race last Saturday. I PR'd but only by 3 1/2in over my registration time. My original time is 1:19:56. Now it is 1:16:24. Is it worth submitting a new proof of time?

Yes, I definitely would.

According to the McMillan Running calculator (and I have no idea if RunDisney uses this...) Your old time would give you a predicted 1/2 marathon finish of 2:58
Your new time gives you a predicted finish of 2:50. Depending on how they do the corrals this year, those 8 minutes could put you in a different corral...
